Sephine lay nestled quietly in the Demon King’s arms, fast asleep.
“How cute… how cute…”
In the Demon King’s eyes, Seilin was absolutely adorable no matter what.
If it were not for the rumors that a Demon King could change the appearance of their spouse, the Demon King might not have chosen to take the throne at all.
‘I wonder what the baby will look like… I’m so looking forward to it.’
The Demon King looked at Sephine’s currently flat belly, wondering if a Demon King’s child would have a shorter gestation period.
As the child’s father, the Demon King felt it was her duty to investigate the matter.
Sephine could never let go of her work.
Even though she had been granted Maternity Leave, she continued to contribute silently, and apparently without pay.
After all, the time off the Demon King had given her was not paid leave.
Although the lawn was warm, it was not safe to sleep out here.
She could not let Sephine fall ill.
The Demon King picked Sephine up, and in the blink of an eye, they arrived at the entrance of the Inner Palace.
The younger sister was still standing at the door with a swollen face.
Traces of the ointment Sephine had applied remained on her skin, and she clutched the handkerchief Sephine had left with her.
Upon seeing her sister, the Demon King shot her a glare.
Ai’er took two steps back in fear.
After placing the sleeping Sephine onto the soft, large bed, the Demon King changed into more formal attire and pushed open the door, prepared to return to work.
“Why are you still here?”
“Sister, I feel it is necessary for me to say a few words.”
Carrying the pride of the Demon Race, as well as a concern for the Kingdom’s future, Lady Lifaria Ai’er Sephalu summoned her courage to speak.
“Hehe, haven’t you had enough of a beating yet?”
“I am serious, Sister.”
It was rare for Lifaria to be this serious.
She persisted even after being severely beaten.
Was she truly thinking of the Kingdom and her elder sister?
Was she afraid that her sister would be heartbroken in the future when Sephine eventually passed away?
To be honest, the Demon King felt a hint of guilt.
Perhaps she should not have hit her so hard.
“Sister, let my sister-in-law marry me instead. I will take good care of her. Then, you can go find a Long-lived Species to be your new wife. Look, since you are the ruler of a nation, there is nothing wrong with marrying two wives. If you give Lady Sephine to me, she probably won’t be sad either. That way, everyone can be happy. It is a win-win situation!”
“Say that again?”
“I said, let my sister-in-law marry me… *pffft*… I am sherious…”
“You really dare to say that? Huh?!”
“Ouch—I was wrong… Stop hitting me! Ouch—”
“It is going to break! It is going to break! Stop—ouch—”
The punches landed solidly against flesh, delivered with great force.
Daenifen never would have dreamed that this girl would actually dare to set her sights on Sephine.
“I am going to beat you to death today!”
“Waaaah… stop hitting me… waaaah… I was wrong…”
No matter how firm her will was, Lady Ai’er could not take any more.
She could only kneel before Daenifen’s legs and wrap her arms around her thighs, attempting to awaken their sisterly bond.
“If you keep hitting me, I’m really going to die…”
Daenifen stopped, but her anger had not fully subsided.
Her daily work was exhausting, and there were always dissatisfied voices from the subordinates below.
She could not hit them, but could she not hit her own sister?
Ai’er was simply unlucky, becoming a punching bag for her sister to vent her frustrations.
“If I ever hear you say such treasonous things again, I will hang you upside down from the top of the Imperial Palace for three days! Consider yourself warned!”
“Waaaah…”
The Demon King left to continue her work, leaving Ai’er there alone.
Once Daenifen was far away, the door to the Inner Palace opened a crack.
Sephine poked her head out and saw Ai’er rolling around on the ground on her side.
“Waaaah… it hurts so much… waaaah…”
Sephine had heard everything Ai’er said just now.
She also felt that Ai’er needed to be taught a lesson.
After all, one should not talk about stealing their sister’s wife.
However, Vi had indeed been too heavy-handed, specifically targeting the face.
Looking at Ai’er now, her face was swollen like a pig’s head.
She was still her sister-in-law, after all.
The punishment should have been lighter; a simple lesson would have sufficed.
Sephine quietly walked over to the rolling Ai’er and poked her.
“Are you all right?”
“Sister is so mean!”
Having been poked on the back, Ai’er thought her sister had returned.
When she peeked back and saw it was actually Sephine, she immediately lunged into Sephine’s arms.
“Oh my, who told you to speak so recklessly? Come inside quickly, and I will apply some medicine for you.”
“Mm…”
Pitifully, Ai’er was led into the room by Sephine, who was a head shorter than her.
Sephine had brought quite a few medicines with her.
Her current body was too fragile, and she needed to be prepared for any accidents at all times.
“Do not keep provoking your sister’s anger, do you hear me?”
“But I like Lady Sephine too…”
Seeing that Ai’er had not yet given up, Sephine had a good idea.
She leaned close to Ai’er’s ear and whispered a single sentence.
“I will tell you a secret: I am already pregnant with your sister’s little baby.”
The Demon King had not made this matter public yet as the time was not right, but it was fine to tell Ai’er.
They were family, so there was no need for secrets.
“Really?”
Ai’er glanced at Sephine’s belly.
“Really.”
“Then I… won’t marry you.”
Sephine gently flicked Ai’er’s forehead.
“You cannot steal other people’s wives, do you hear me? Be like your sister and only love me for your entire life.”
“Okay~”
Without realizing it, Ai’er had already surrendered to Sephine’s gentle nature.
‘Well, she really is just a child,’ Sephine grumbled inwardly.
Both sisters loved to stay in her arms, even though she was clearly the smallest and thinnest one there.
But there was nothing she could do about it.
After all, she was the only adult here.
“Then I will be going. I won’t disturb Lady Sephine’s rest.”
A pregnant woman needed rest; even someone as dim-witted as Ai’er understood that.
Besides, her father was still waiting for her at home to cook.
She would definitely lodge a heavy complaint against her sister during dinner!
Ai’er limped her way back home.
‘Ai’er doesn’t live in the Imperial Palace? I thought they lived here too.’
Sephine did not know much about Vi’s family situation.
When she had the time, she would have to go meet Vi’s father.
Sephine had been woken up by Ai’er’s shouting just now, so she intended to go back for a nap.
Vi’s reputation probably was not so high that she would demand things multiple times a day, so there should not be any more tossing and turning tonight.
As she lay on the bed, Vi’s scent had not yet dissipated, and a fragrance like lavender washed over her.
Sephine buried her head in Vi’s pillow.
‘It seems… I’m becoming a bit strange… I hate it.’
As soon as she smelled Vi’s scent, Sephine’s mind would go blank.
Was this the attraction of a Demon King?
‘She won’t find out…’
‘It’s all… Vi’s fault…’
