“Help meeeeeeee!”
The cold wind stabbed at Bai Li’s face like needles, followed by a sickening sense of weightlessness.
The sensation of falling from a building sent her into a panic, and her limbs flailed wildly in the air.
The snow-white, fleshy wings on her back fluttered instinctively, but her frantic movements lacked any rhythm.
Instead of slowing her descent, they only caused her body to wobble and tilt precariously in midair.
“You rebellious daughter!”
Bai Li screamed, her voice cracking with terror and fury.
Just as she was a mere 10 feet from the ground, about to slam into the earth…
Bai Ning spread her wings.
The tips of her feathers shimmered with a faint silver light, creating a powerful updraft that steadily caught Bai Li’s falling body.
She reached out, catching her in a princess carry and holding her securely.
“I’ve come to save you. Don’t be so panicked — there’s a good daughter~”
Bai Ning’s voice was laced with amusement, though it held a hint of earnestness.
“This is how all we Vampires learn to fly. Besides, you were so busy screaming that you didn’t focus on controlling your wings. That’s why you lost control~”
Bai Li was held suspended in the air, her feet dangling just 1 foot above the ground, still swaying slightly.
Still reeling from the shock, she gasped for air, her chest heaving.
She looked up and glared at the close-faced Bai Ning, her face flushing as she spoke in anger.
“Bai Ning, how can you even say that! Who pushes someone off without a word? Were you trying to kill me?”
“How could I?”
Bai Ning released her, letting her stand firmly on the ground.
She then flapped her wings, hovering effortlessly in the air before her, the smile in her eyes impossible to hide.
“You’re my precious daughter — and my former Father. How could I bear to let you get hurt? Besides, if I didn’t force you to experience weightlessness, how would you ever remember the feeling of controlling your wings?”
Bai Li puffed out her cheeks and stomped her foot.
The fleshy wings on her back were still trembling slightly from her agitation.
She tilted her chin up and glared at Bai Ning, completely unaware that she didn’t look threatening at all.
With her small stature, wide wings, and face flushed from the scare, she looked exactly like a ruffled kitten — timid yet adorable.
“Hmph!”
Bai Li turned her face away.
“I’m not learning anymore! I was originally a human. This Demon Race flight is completely pointless!”
“Oh?”
Bai Ning landed slowly, folding her wings as she walked over.
She tilted her head and looked down at her, her tone full of teasing.
“But who was it that sounded so interested when they heard they could learn to fly? It’s only been a few minutes, and you’ve already changed your mind?”
“I…”
Bai Li was suddenly speechless, her cheeks turning even redder.
It was true; when she first heard she could learn to fly, her heart had been full of anticipation.
It was just that this sudden, hardcore teaching method had been far beyond her tolerance.
Seeing her hesitating, looking frustrated and aggrieved, Bai Ning couldn’t help but chuckle.
She reached out and gently ruffled Bai Li’s hair.
“Alright, alright, I’ll stop teasing you. I was too impatient just now. I’ll teach you slowly from now on, okay?”
‘Hmph, that’s more like it. It’s not like I’m unwilling to learn if you just ask properly!’
Bai Li grumbled internally.
Though she kept her face turned away, she gave a small, subtle nod.
Actually, while she had been scared half to death in the air, that feeling of breaking free from the earth’s shackles and soaring through the wind had sparked a faint thrill in her heart.
“Come, try again.”
Bai Ning stepped aside and motioned for her to spread her wings.
“You don’t need to fly high this time. Just glide along the ground. First, feel the direction of the wind and let your wings flap gently with the current. Remember, keep your strength even. Don’t force it.”
Bai Li took a deep breath, steadied her nerves, and spread the fleshy wings on her back once more.
Having learned her lesson, she didn’t dare be careless this time.
She closed her eyes to concentrate, carefully feeling every movement of her wings.
A breeze brushed past her, carrying the faint scent of flowers from the courtyard.
She tried to let the wing membranes rise and fall slightly, flapping slowly in the direction of the wind.
Initially, her body still wobbled.
She stumbled several times, nearly falling, but Bai Ning was always there to catch her with quick reflexes.
But hard work paid off.
After practicing for half a day, she gradually got the hang of it.
The frequency of her wing flaps became steadier, and her body slowly lifted off the ground, gliding along the surface.
“Yes, just like that!”
Bai Ning’s voice was full of praise.
“Keep that rhythm. Slowly gain a little more height. You can do it~”
Hearing the encouragement, Bai Li’s confidence grew.
She tried to increase the strength of her flaps slightly, and her body rose slowly.
From gliding against the ground, to 1 or 2 feet up, then to 10 feet high…
Heaven truly helps those who help themselves.
Bai Li was finally flying!
The cool wind rushed beneath her wings, bringing an unprecedented sense of freedom.
She couldn’t stop her lips from curling upward, her eyes brimming with joy.
“I… I’m really flying!”
Bai Li cried out in pleasant surprise.
She couldn’t resist flapping harder, soaring forward.
She flew over the flower beds in the courtyard, the air current scattering petals into the air until they settled all over her.
She flew over the pond, where the clear water reflected her small, winged figure.
She even tried gentle turns and slow circles.
Although her movements were still a bit clunky, she could already control her direction with flexibility.
Bai Ning spread her wings and followed leisurely behind, flying side by side with her.
She watched the uninhibited smile spreading across Bai Li’s face.
This was the first time she had seen Bai Li this happy.
The previous resistance and resentment were gone, replaced by pure, heartfelt joy.
“How is it, daughter? Doesn’t flying on the wind feel amazing?”
Bai Ning shouted with a laugh.
“Yes, it does!”
Bai Li replied without looking back, her voice full of excitement.
“Don’t you feel a great sense of accomplishment?”
“Mm-hmm! So much!”
“Then don’t you want to keep flying like this? Even longer, even higher?”
“I do!”
Bai Li blurted out without a second thought.
“Then… why don’t you stop thinking about changing back, okay?”
“Okay… wait! Like hell I will!”
Bai Li snapped out of it instantly, retorting without leaving any room for argument.
“Aww, I couldn’t even trick you~”
Bai Ning sighed with feigned disappointment, but the mirth in her eyes only deepened.
“You dead, rebellious daughter! You want me to fall and become part of the Demon Race that badly, don’t you!”
Bai Li flapped her wings huffily, hovering in the air to glare at her.
“I’m telling you, even if your Father falls to his death from this sky today, or sneaks out and dies in the wilderness, I will never want to keep this Demon Race body for even 1 second!”
Bai Li spoke with absolute determination.
Bai Ning wasn’t angry at all, however.
She simply watched the other’s receding back and whispered to herself.
‘Oh, Father, you’d better remember what you said today…’
