Wuming carried two bags of trash downstairs.

After showering he stood by the window drinking milk.

It was a girl dragging a heavy body along. 

As if by some mysterious force, their eyes met briefly in midair.

In just a few seconds the girl hurriedly turned and plunged into the small alley beside.

Although it had been only an instant, Wuming clearly caught the despair and helplessness surging in her eyes.

Why is it like this?!

Wuming didn’t understand, but less than half a minute later he saw several more people slip into that same alley.

“That girl is in there! Get after her!!!”

“If we catch her we can get the IDs!”

He heard those people shouting.

Wuming didn’t understand what they meant, but from their words it was obvious they had set their sights on the girl from earlier.

Wuming was momentarily confused about the whole situation.

Who was that girl just now? Who were the people chasing her? What did they mean by “IDs”?!

All sorts of doubts swirled in Wuming’s mind, and what worried him most was the girl’s safety.

He wondered whether she could escape…

Then he heard—

“You’ve got nowhere left to run!”

“Tonight you’re not getting away!!!”

Although he didn’t know what was happening inside, Wuming could tell the girl was probably in deep trouble.

These guys were yelling like this—weren’t they afraid that concerned citizens like him would call the police?

Wuming silently closed the curtains, then went back inside and looked at the walls covered in his figurines.

Meanwhile in that alley.

The girl lay on the ground, unconscious. 

A glaring trail of blood seeped from her temple, clearly the result of a heavy blow to the head.

“Damn it! We lost several brothers because of her! Ptoo!”

One man spat viciously and kicked the girl on the ground again to vent his anger.

“Run! Weren’t you so good at running?! Get up and run some more!”

The men surrounding her punched and kicked the now-defenseless girl, unleashing their brutality.

“Enough, tie her up already!” the leader-like man roared. “Hand her over to the ‘higher-ups’ and the bounty is ours!”

“This is enough money to buy the IDs!”

They roughly tried to bind the girl and drag her away, their full attention fixed on her, completely unaware that a figure was quietly approaching from behind.

It was a girl wearing a masquerade mask. In her hand she held a massive spiked club.

In a flash the suddenly appearing girl ended the fight.

The surrounding men didn’t even have time to see her face clearly before a single swing of the club knocked them all unconscious.

Without pausing, she walked straight to the unconscious girl, gazed at her for a few seconds, then bent down, picked her up, and left the alley.

Her destination was clear—the door of Wuming’s shop.

And Wuming was already standing at the entrance waiting for them.

After confirming no one else was around, Wuming quickly opened the door to let the two inside. The mysterious girl, following his instructions, gently set the injured girl down.

Only then did Wuming get his first clear look at the unconscious girl’s appearance.

Her luxurious black dress was now covered in scratches and stained with glaring blood.

Her face was deathly pale with no color at all, still carrying a childish innocence, yet her features were exceptionally delicate. 

She looked no more than fifteen or sixteen years old.

What stood out even more were the two particularly prominent sharp fangs and the equally pointed ears peeking out from between her strands of hair.

There was no doubt—she was a blood clan member.

In that case she could be considered one of his own.

That’s right, Wuming wasn’t human either.

He was simply a ghost clan member living here.

Why was she being surrounded and attacked by so many people?!

But it didn’t look like flashy guys going after an innocent loli girl; there seemed to be more to it.

Wuming lowered his head and looked at the unconscious girl.

Better treat her wounds first.

Before going upstairs, however, Wuming walked over to the mysterious girl who stood motionless in place.

“Thanks for the hard work.”

As Wuming spoke he gently rubbed her head.

With his touch the girl’s figure began to shrink and blur, finally settling into a delicate figurine lying quietly in his palm.

Only after finishing did Wuming bend down, pick up the blood clan girl from the ground, and carry her up to the second floor.

He himself wasn’t skilled in medicine, so the treatment was naturally left to other “professionals.”

This superpower really was convenient.

It just cost a bit of blood and money.

Wuming stood to the side, watching the “surgery” process.

A few minutes later the faint wail of police sirens came from downstairs—that was the report he had made before taking action, claiming someone was disturbing the peace.

After the treatment ended, Wuming fetched a basin of hot water, soaked a towel, carefully removed the girl’s bloodstained clothes, and wiped her body clean.

After all the work he was covered in sweat and collapsed exhausted onto the sofa.

Amid the fatigue a trace of regret quietly crept in.

Why had he saved her? 

He knew better than anyone that one trouble is less than none.

Yet he had still… gotten involved.

This night felt unprecedentedly long for Wuming. From darkness until dawn the lights in the house stayed on. 

He remained tense the entire time, on guard against any uninvited guests who might barge in.

He hadn’t slept a wink…

Wuming yawned as he rose from the chair, stretched, and let his gaze sweep over the girl still fast asleep on the sofa.

…Better go buy breakfast first and check on her when he gets back.
