However, this title made Gu Bai twitch his mouth in silence.
He didn’t think too much of it, after all, Gu Bai had saved many people, and he had indeed saved Su Wan’er once not long ago.
Wang Yu, who was standing nearby, couldn’t help but chuckle.
He looked at the two of them, the corners of his mouth curling upward uncontrollably.
“It seems you two know each other.”
“Sort of.”
Gu Bai sighed helplessly and then spoke to Su Wan’er.
“What a coincidence, we meet again, and… you don’t have to call me benefactor; the title is just a bit too absurd.”
“Then what should I call you?”
Su Wan’er blinked her sparkling eyes, looking a bit confused.
“You can call me Gu Bai, or senior.”
“Okay, okay, Senior Gu Bai.”
Su Wan’er gave Gu Bai a respectful greeting, which caused him to sigh yet again.
But Gu Bai’s good buddy Wang Yu patted Gu Bai on the shoulder and said.
“Young man, don’t sigh so much.”
Just from that brief interaction, with Wang Yu’s rich emotional experience, it wasn’t hard to see that Su Wan’er felt something special for Gu Bai.
Combined with that “benefactor” remark earlier.
Whether this feeling was the budding of first love or just simple gratitude, Wang Yu couldn’t say for sure.
“Senior Gu Bai,” Su Wan’er said in a soft, pleasant voice, “how did you end up here?”
In Su Wan’er’s eyes, a person like Gu Bai shouldn’t have any interest in the two-dimensional world she loved, which made her curious about his presence.
“Just helping out with some odd jobs, that’s all.”
Gu Bai shrugged as he looked at the girl in front of him.
“Does your Anime Club have any difficulties?”
“Ah…”
Su Wan’er stammered, “I’m not actually in the Anime Club; I just… I just came here to look at the cosplay costumes.”
As she spoke, Su Wan’er turned her head.
Following her gaze, he saw a large number of costumes prepared in the Anime Club, seemingly intended for a runway show during the Welcome Gala.
It remained to be seen if the rigid school administrators would even approve their program.
“Let me go and ask.”
Gu Bai brushed past Su Wan’er and walked toward the head of the Anime Club behind her.
As he began communicating with others, Su Wan’er stared blankly at Gu Bai’s back, her mind wandering.
While she was dazed, Wang Yu’s voice came from behind her.
“Junior, don’t let Gu Bai’s cold exterior fool you; he is actually very kind to those around him.”
Wang Yu said with a smile.
“It’s just that, perhaps because he was deeply hurt in the past, combined with his environment, he keeps up this lone-wolf persona.”
“Hmm.”
Su Wan’er nodded and walked behind Gu Bai, listening to his discussion with the club president.
Just as she arrived, she heard the Anime Club president say.
“Right, right, Senior Gu Bai, I have a junior here; could you help her put together a cosplay outfit?”
As she spoke, the club president pulled a bewildered Su Wan’er in front of her.
The president’s voluptuous figure stood in stark contrast to Su Wan’er’s frame; it was a rather tragic comparison.
“I can, but…”
“Me?”
Before Gu Bai could finish his sentence, Su Wan’er snapped out of her daze and shook her head repeatedly.
“No no no, I can’t do it!”
Due to an incident she had faced in high school, Su Wan’er was particularly resistant to dressing herself up.
She didn’t want to stand out, nor did she want to be flashy; maintaining her dark, homebody persona was comfortable enough for her.
Even when she wore her sister’s clothes to see Gu Bai last time, she had hesitated for a very long time before finally putting them on.
Not to mention a program that required a runway show in front of a crowd; it was something she simply couldn’t handle.
“Why not just try?”
The club president continued.
“Even if you don’t want to get on stage, there’s no harm in just trying on the clothes.”
Even so, Su Wan’er’s head shook like a rattle.
As for Gu Bai, sticking to his principle of avoiding unnecessary trouble, he spoke to the club president.
“If Su Wan’er isn’t willing, there’s no need to force her.”
The club president laughed, ignored Gu Bai’s words, and leaned in to whisper in Su Wan’er’s ear.
“Junior Su Wan’er, the person in front of you has actually placed in the top three of a provincial fashion design competition, you know~ and he is actually a very kind person. This is a rare opportunity; if you’re willing to ask, he will definitely help you put together a beautiful outfit.”
Su Wan’er had come here to see what the cosplay costumes looked like; as a homebody, she was genuinely curious about them.
But after arriving, she realized there were too many people.
If the club president hadn’t spotted her, the poor, pathetic girl probably wouldn’t have even found a place to sit.
A love for beauty was indeed a woman’s nature; even if she didn’t like dressing up, Su Wan’er did have some beautiful clothes in her wardrobe.
More importantly, these would be outfits personally crafted by Gu Bai.
The only other person who had enjoyed such treatment was her sister, Su Shuhao.
Seeing Su Wan’er waver, the club president fanned the flames.
“Besides, given Gu Bai’s personality, he won’t refuse you.”
“Is it… really okay?”
Su Wan’er was truly tempted, but she was too embarrassed to ask, so she just stared blankly at Gu Bai.
Seeing this, the latter sighed helplessly.
“If you want to, just say it; there’s no need to hold it in.”
“I want to.”
In the end, Su Wan’er nodded.
Gu Bai didn’t say much.
He wasn’t a professional fashion designer; this was merely a skill he had learned back when he needed to make money.
He didn’t need any special tools, so Gu Bai worked on the spot, borrowing materials and equipment from the club to begin his work.
Since he wasn’t designing from scratch, but rather imitating the outfits of two-dimensional characters, it didn’t take much time.
“Even if you don’t plan to go on stage, this should be enough.”
Su Wan’er looked at the clothes handed to her; she couldn’t tell which anime character it was supposed to be.
Or rather, an outfit cobbled together like this probably couldn’t even be called cosplay, right?
“It looks like it will fit…”
Su Wan’er couldn’t resist the urge to put it on.
She looked at the club president and asked, “Um, is it really okay to use these materials?”
“It’s fine, it’s fine.”
The club president waved her hand with a smile.
“Just go and try it on. The dressing room here is full, but there’s an old one… forget it, Senior Gu Bai, you take her; she’s a freshman and doesn’t know her way around.”
