Bolai Kachi looked up at the Corrupted figure in a butler’s tailcoat on the rooftop, his expression more grave than ever.
He guessed almost instantly that the target was his daughter.
The efficiency of the Corrupted forces had ultimately exceeded his expectations.
His daughter had only awakened as the Hero yesterday, and they had already come knocking in just a single day.
The world envied the divine gift of the Hero class, but behind that glory was the fate of being dragged into the world’s greatest conflict.
Danger had always been an innate accessory of the Hero.
But, the class was bestowed by the gods. Since the gods had entrusted the mission of saving the world to his daughter, it was enough to prove she possessed exceptional qualities.
He did not complain. He stepped forward, shielding Anlis and Fula behind him.
This was all he could do now.
“I can’t defeat him.”
His tone was as heavy as if delivering last words.
“But… I will fight with everything I have to hold him back. You two must leave, go as far as you can. It would be best… to seek refuge with the Holy Order.”
He could feel his sword hand trembling.
Knowing death was certain, he did not show a trace of cowardice to retreat.
Even though he was a complete failure, at this moment, his adrenaline surged because of the desperate fight he was about to wage.
He was, after all, a father. At least this time, in front of his daughter, he absolutely could not run away again.
Wubika Kachi watched the man walking straight toward him and simply smiled faintly.
Perhaps this man before him was the real target he had personally come for.
Killing the Hero would cause the concept of [Hero] to seek a new host.
The previous attackers had intended to break the Hero’s spirit by making her witness her own father’s death.
Now that he had come personally, the goal was the same.
‘Sigh, what a bother. If only killing the Hero directly could completely erase [Hero].’
As his words fell, the surrounding aura of Corruption grew denser, a suffocating pressure that distorted the air, making his face appear terrifying, like a ferocious demon.
Bolai felt an unprecedented pressure, almost suffocating him.
If it were before the Curse, with his former strength, he would have swung his blade without hesitation to cut down this evil creature.
But now…
‘Just buying time will have to be enough.’
“Father, let me handle this.”
Anlis tugged at his sleeve.
“No! You can’t defeat him. Leave now! Don’t let my sacrifice be in vain.”
His tone intensified considerably, carrying a hint of scolding, almost ordering Anlis to leave.
Anlis did not argue. She slowly raised her hand.
On the back of her hand, the seal was fully activated. A sacred, gleaming light began to erupt from her body bit by bit, carrying an extreme aggressiveness, tearing apart the Corruption before her piece by piece.
The nauseating evil aura melted away like ice and snow under the holy radiance, shattering like a mirror, dissipating into nothingness.
A rare trace of panic appeared on Wubika Kachi’s face.
This inexplicable light instantly disrupted all his plans.
He frantically increased the output of his Power of Corruption, trying to concentrate his scattered power into a single point, desperately assaulting that layer of radiance.
But no matter how hard he tried, he could not shake the holy light in the slightest.
He could only watch helplessly as that Holy Light tore apart all the power he took pride in.
“Why? How is this possible!”
Wubika Kachi roared in disbelief, his eyes filled with incredulity.
“You’re just a Hero who awakened yesterday. How could you possess a trump card that can so easily overwhelm a Level 100 powerhouse?”
“This is!”
Fula exclaimed in shock, “Could this be the innate talent of a Hero?”
“Damn it! So that’s it!”
Wubika Kachi gritted his teeth, his heart filled with resentment.
He had heard that Heroes were unreasonable existences, so it was perfectly normal for them to possess some special means.
But wasn’t this cheating a bit too much?
He thought coming down personally after pushing the other into a desperate situation was the height of caution. He never imagined he would be defeated by such a sudden burst of light.
“It doesn’t seem like it. This Holy Light feels more like the work of the Holy Order. Could it be… Anlis, have you already made contact with people from the Holy Order?”
Anlis’s father did not believe this was Anlis’s own ability, as it defied logic.
But he quickly thought of the source of this light.
“Damnable Holy Order! How could they be so fast!” Upon hearing this, Wubika Kachi suddenly understood, all his doubts vanishing, replaced only by towering rage.
“I deliberately concealed the news. How could they react this quickly?”
Only a contingency left by the Holy Order could give a newborn Hero the power to oppose a Level 100 powerhouse, and this intense Holy Light corroborated that.
Yet, for some reason, he felt something was off.
While pondering, he suddenly sensed an anomaly!
But at that moment, Anlis raised her hand, gathering all the Holy Light around her into her palm, forming a dazzling ball of light, and without hesitation, hurled it toward Wubika Kachi on the rooftop.
The holy radiance instantly enveloped Wubika Kachi. He didn’t even have time to scream before he dissipated without resistance within the light.
Anlis lowered her hand, no trace of joy in her eyes.
There was no feedback of a kill. She didn’t know if she had truly eliminated him.
After all… this was Vylian’s arrangement.
Bolai Kachi sensed the surrounding aura, and after confirming it was safe, stepped forward.
“My child has truly grown up.”
The expectation in her father’s eyes, born from her repelling a powerful enemy, shone like starlight, his tone full of pride and relief.
But this gaze falling upon Anlis made her feel inexplicably guilty.
“I-it was nothing much.”
The celebratory conversation did not last long.
Perhaps because the commotion was too great, peacekeepers came halfway to investigate. After confirming it was a Corrupted Creature causing trouble, they did not give Anlis and the other two any difficulty.
On the way back, her father strode briskly. Fula chattered nonstop beside her ear, but Anlis didn’t take in a word, lost in her own thoughts.
The Demon King Vylian had already begun her schemes. From now on, her methods would surely be endless.
She had even used Anlis’s father as a pawn to probe and scheme. Who could say if even more dangerous things would befall her family in the future?
She absolutely could not gamble with her family’s safety.
Perhaps only by leaving, taking the Demon King with her, and facing all these dangers alone could she completely prevent such things from happening.
An excuse to leave could easily be found. After all, what Hero stayed by their parents’ side forever?
Anlis looked up at the sky, a rare trace of melancholy rising within her.
“Huh? Anlis, why did your face suddenly turn so red? Are you hurt? Are you feeling unwell somewhere?”
Suddenly, Fula’s exclamation pulled Anlis back from her thoughts.
“Suddenly turned red?”
She didn’t quite understand what the other meant and instinctively placed her hand against her cheek.
It was frighteningly hot.
