After bidding farewell to the uncle, the two continued searching for people who needed help.
After completing a series of classic good deeds such as helping an old lady cross the road, searching for a lost cat, and helping lost children find their parents, the two began reviewing their actions with some uncertainty.
“Sister, these things… probably don’t count as difficult, right?”
“Probably…” Su Xiaocheng felt a headache coming on. With magic prohibited, she was now just an ordinary little girl.
Where was she supposed to find difficult good deeds to perform?
Meanwhile, in the guest room right next to theirs, a girl in a tight red outfit watched the monitor and spoke.
“It’s about time. Find an opportunity to relay that information to them.”
Under her instructions, a plainclothes staff member who had been following Su Xiaocheng and Su Xiaowei all along hurried past the pair, pretending to be on a phone call.
“What? That gang who hit the bank vault the other day is hiding in an abandoned warehouse north of the city right now…”
Coincidentally overhearing this, Su Xiaocheng and Su Xiaowei exchanged a glance.
“Sister, catching bank robbers—does that count as a major good deed?”
“It probably does, but magic is prohibited. We can’t beat them.”
“How about we go to the Alliance branch office and pass on the message?”
Su Xiaowei suggested.
“The information might not even be real… We should at least verify its accuracy first.”
Su Xiaocheng looked around, trying to get her bearings.
Suddenly, her gaze was caught by a huge sign.
Desert Fox Mercenary Association.
“Xiaowei, I have an idea.”
The two walked into the mercenary association.
***
“What are those two trying to do?” The girl in the tight red outfit shot to her feet.
The information was genuine.
There really was a gang of robbers hiding in the abandoned warehouse.
From what she knew, they were just ordinary bandits.
But the place Su Xiaocheng and Su Xiaowei had gone to… Desert Fox was a famous mercenary group from the northwest deserts.
They even had connections to the Security Council.
If they actually got involved, forget the robbers—the entire warehouse would be leveled.
“No way. I need to contact Desert Fox’s person in charge here. We can’t let them fire crystal energy cannons in the city.”
The girl in red quickly headed for the Desert Fox Association.
“You mean just to scout a warehouse that might have robbers, you’re charging five million?” Su Xiaocheng confirmed again.
The receptionist patiently explained, “Five million is the starting price. No team will accept it for less. To showcase our professionalism, we can throw in some extra services at no additional cost.”
“Such as?”
“Such as bringing over a crystal energy cannon and blasting the warehouse—and any robbers inside—straight to kingdom come.”
The receptionist delivered the most ruthless words in the gentlest tone.
“Don’t worry, the location you want scouted isn’t far. We can just charge you for firing the cannon. Five million is perfect.”
“I don’t think we need something that violent. Is there a… gentler method?” Su Xiaocheng asked, troubled.
“That might be tricky. Most people find it too much hassle… Oh?”
The receptionist’s surprised expression caught their attention. Su Xiaocheng asked, “What happened?”
“Someone has accepted your task. She’ll handle it according to your requirements. Even though it’ll be more troublesome, our fee stays the same. Would you like to reconsider? The crystal energy cannon really is a great value.”
The receptionist continued her sales pitch.
“No need. Just send the person you mentioned.”
Five million was an enormous sum Su Xiaocheng couldn’t produce on her own, but she didn’t have to rely entirely on herself.
Su Xiaocheng pulled a black card from her bag. It was the first time she had used it since Lu Yinxi gave it to her.
A flicker of surprise crossed the receptionist’s eyes. She had never seen a black card of this caliber before.
After processing the payment, the receptionist respectfully returned the Black Gold Credit Card to Su Xiaocheng.
“Honored customer, your task has been posted. Please wait a moment—the person accepting it will arrive shortly.”
The two sat down on the sofas in the lobby. The receptionist promptly brought over tea and a fruit platter.
They didn’t wait long before a girl in a tight red outfit hurried in.
“Hello, boss. I’m Li Yanyan. I’ve seen the task requirements. Shall we head out now?”
“You’re going alone?” Su Xiaocheng asked uneasily.
“That’s right. Rest assured, boss. I’m a professional.”
Li Yanyan thumped her chest confidently, her ample bosom bouncing vigorously with the motion.
“Alright then.” Since the other party put it that way, Su Xiaocheng felt it would be rude to press further.
Since she’s a professional, it should be fine, right? Su Xiaocheng thought to herself.
The group arrived at the abandoned warehouse north of the city.
Li Yanyan made what looked like a very professional hand signal and then advanced alone, using cover along the way to scout ahead.
“Sister, what did that hand signal mean?” Su Xiaowei asked, puzzled.
“I don’t know. It looked very professional though.”
Under their watchful eyes, Li Yanyan stealthily reached the window of the abandoned warehouse without alerting anyone.
She nimbly climbed up and peeked inside.
“Who’s there?” A sharp shout came from within the warehouse.
Then came the sound of a gunshot, and Li Yanyan tumbled down from the wall.
The two spectators exchanged glances. A strong sense of having been scammed washed over them.
“Sister, I feel like those five million might have been a waste.”
Su Xiaowei said uncertainly.
“I feel the same…” Su Xiaocheng silently added Desert Fox to her blacklist and decided she would file a complaint later.
But right now, saving someone was the priority.
The trial requirements could wait. Leaving someone to die was not how a Magical Girl operated.
“Transformation!”
By then, the robbers from the warehouse had already rushed out.
They surrounded the fallen Li Yanyan with crude homemade firearms.
“Boss, she looks like a random passerby.” One underling stepped forward and examined Li Yanyan.
“Take her inside first. That shot probably didn’t hit anything vital.” The man who appeared to be the leader ordered.
“Hands on your heads! Squat against the wall! You are all under arrest!”
The transformed Su Xiaocheng and Su Xiaowei arrived in the nick of time.
“Why are there Magical Girls here?” Seeing their signature outfits, the robber leader’s face darkened instantly.
He raised his gun to fight back, but an ordinary handgun posed no threat to Magical Girls.
Su Xiaowei pressed her shutter, as if hitting a pause button. Every robber on the scene froze in place.
Su Xiaocheng stepped forward to check on Li Yanyan’s condition.
To her surprise, there wasn’t a single wound on Li Yanyan’s body.
The girl even flashed Su Xiaocheng a sly smile.
“Congratulations, you two. The first stage of the trial has been perfectly completed.”
