After a long time, the academy was peaceful and quiet, completely unlike the major and minor incidents in Bai Lili’s memory.
‘Most of the problems were mainly caused by Long Chen.’
Having figured that out, Bai Lili stopped worrying about it. There was still a week until the ability competition, and she wasn’t particularly nervous. After all, the competition didn’t mean much to her. It was probably just Lilith and the others looking for an excuse to get close to her.
The noon sun shone on Bai Lili’s face. She lay lazily on the sofa. Under the golden sunlight, Bai Lili seemed to glow. Her golden fox tail swayed behind her, and her large fox ears twitched from time to time—adorable.
If Lilith were here, it would’ve been hard for her to resist pouncing, hugging Bai Lili, and squeezing her. Bathing in the warm sunlight, Bai Lili closed her eyes comfortably, like a lazy cat.
Just as Bai Lili was about to take a short nap, Lilith barged in. Bai Lili only gave her a brief glance before continuing to sleep.
Lilith walked over to Bai Lili’s side. With a lazy tone, Bai Lili said, “Do you have something to do?”
Bai Lili didn’t even look at Lilith, hugging her large tail to her chest and rubbing it comfortably twice. Seeing Bai Lili so cute yet not even glancing her way, Lilith complained with a hint of resentment in her voice.
“If you act like this, someone else might steal me away.”
Hearing this, Bai Lili lifted her lazy head and looked at Lilith, a trace of confusion in her voice. “Then that just means your love is too cheap.”
Lilith caught Bai Lili’s meaning and quickly said, “No, no. I, Lilith, will only love you, Lili, for the rest of my life.”
Bai Lili didn’t bother with that and asked, “So what is it?”
Lilith scratched her head and said half-jokingly, “Someone confessed to me today.”
Afraid Bai Lili might misunderstand, she added, “I rejected her, but the feeling she gave me wasn’t good.”
Bai Lili lifted her head in confusion and asked, “Why did she confess to you?”
Lilith shook her head. “She seems to be a transfer student from the class next door today. She gives off a strange feeling—sometimes she radiates an aura that makes people want to get close to her.”
Bai Lili perked up at Lilith’s words. This person sounded like trouble. Following the usual novel tropes, she was at least a notable antagonist.
Thinking about this, Bai Lili suddenly recalled the Academy Director’s laissez-faire management style. He actively brought in dangerous elements instead of dealing with them early, calling it a “test for the students.” But how many could truly pass? Wasn’t he afraid of things spiraling out of control and creating some evil god?
If something he couldn’t handle really showed up, Bai Lili would love to see that old geezer get beaten up. After all, she didn’t want to live in an academy surrounded by threats.
For now, these matters weren’t hers to manage. What could she say? That old geezer had invited in all kinds of monsters himself. Bai Lili’s expression turned serious as she told Lilith, “Be careful. Since you feel she’s strange, there’s definitely something wrong with her.”
Lilith nodded. That transfer student gave her a sickening feeling, like she’d sensed it somewhere before, but she couldn’t recall where.
Disturbed by Lilith, Bai Lili had lost all desire to sleep. Just as she was about to get up and pour herself some tea, Su Ruo and Qing Hanyin returned. Bai Lili, following her intuition, asked, “Were you two confessed to as well?”
Su Ruo and Qing Hanyin both nodded. Bai Lili turned to Lilith and asked, “Lili, what did the person who confessed to you look like?”
Lilith thought for a moment and roughly gestured. “About this tall, around 5’3″. Green hair, like seaweed. And I smelled a disgusting seafood scent.”
Su Ruo and Qing Hanyin nodded at Lilith’s description. Su Ruo said, “Similar to what Lilith described, but we didn’t smell any seafood scent.”
Qing Hanyin seemed to remember something and wanted to speak but stopped.
Bai Lili thought it over. She’d mark this person as a key target for now and put everything else aside. The competition was coming up soon. Even if it wasn’t that important, she couldn’t embarrass herself.
Bai Lili asked the three of them, “Have you seen her before?”
All three shook their heads in unison. Then Bai Lili checked her phone. There seemed to be some news on the campus wall. She saw a post titled: “Green-haired beauty goes on a confession spree—is it a distortion of human nature or a collapse of morality?”
After a quick glance, Bai Lili noticed that everyone this person confessed to had one thing in common: they were A-rank ability users or higher, and none were support types.
Though she didn’t know why, it was still strange. That green-haired girl had an aggressive look—a kind of seductive, demonic beauty that made Bai Lili feel a bit uncomfortable.
Lilith, on the other hand, commented from the side, “What a super player. Not like me—I’m devoted to Lili alone.”
Bai Lili pushed away Lilith’s face as it drew closer. She still had class later, so she’d drop this for now.
The matter seemed strange, but she didn’t know where to start. At the dining table, Lilith, Su Ruo, and Qing Hanyin discussed it. Lilith spoke first: “What do you two think about this?”
Su Ruo had found something. She’d looked into this person’s background but could only dig up a name and ability. The name was Lin Shuran, and her ability was Affinity. Everything else seemed erased. Su Ruo said seriously, “It’s strange. There’s basically no information on this person.”
Qing Hanyin didn’t voice any opinion, because she couldn’t reveal much. The world had sent her back to the present but also placed several shackles on her.
Then, because of the upcoming competition, the matter was set aside.
Back to the time when Bai Lili was dozing on the sofa.
Qing Hanyin was in the Principal’s office. The Academy Director leaned back in his chair, with Qing Hanyin standing in front of him. She just stared at the old man and asked coldly, “You know how dangerous these people are. Why do you still keep them in the academy?”
As she spoke, a sharp pain shot through her chest. She knew she was breaking the rules.
The Academy Director, that old geezer, only said, “It’s a test for you all, isn’t it? And I know who you really are.”
Qing Hanyin was slightly surprised, then understood. Having read the ancient scrolls, she knew there was a divine artifact that could see through anyone’s identity. No one could hide from it. And its owner was the Academy Director.
Looking at this stubborn old man—a mere thrill-seeker—Qing Hanyin laughed, laughed in disbelief. She remembered how Lilith, once her strength surpassed his, had beaten him up.
Then she slammed the door behind her. This matter could only be solved by themselves.
Back to Bai Lili’s perspective now. Bai Lili watched the teacher drone on with boring lessons and took out her phone to browse today’s fun posts.
When class ended, Bai Lili grabbed her bag and got ready to leave. As she walked and scrolled through her phone, a flash of green appeared in her sight. She only caught some unclear words before the green-haired girl disappeared from view.
