Cecilia’s tone turned sour. “According to historical records, those three gods didn’t have the earth-shattering power that you, Lady Primrose, possess.”
“The so-called holy blessings they provided were like paper before the Demon Generals—one poke and they tore right through.”
“And what’s worse were those Heroes. Every single one of them was steeped in base character flaws. They were absolute scum.”
Primrose raised an eyebrow.
‘Scum?’
‘Is the Unified Divine Realm’s selection process really this poor?’
“Take the first Hero who descended three hundred years ago, for example.”
“The man spent all day prattling on about light novels and anime, spouting bizarre words no one could understand.”
Primrose’s heart skipped a beat.
‘Oh boy, a modern shut-in transmigrator?’
“According to the history books, when he first arrived, he was insufferably arrogant.”
Cecilia continued. “He boasted to the King that, in the setting of his world, Heroes were born to counter Demon Kings.”
“The Demon Race were just trash mobs handing out experience points in front of him. He couldn’t even be bothered to train with his sword. He spent his days loafing around the Royal Capital, demanding this and that.”
Lin Naiyue interjected, “That child is so unreasonable. How can he get by without hard work and only with empty talk?”
“You’re right, Lady Hero, but that man wouldn’t listen to advice at all.”
Cecilia softened her tone toward Lin Naiyue slightly. “Later, when the front lines were in crisis, he and his god went to the battlefield. Everyone thought he would finally show his might. And guess what happened?”
“He strutted up to the front lines, and yelled something like ‘Filth! Face your doom!’ at the Demon army.”
“He didn’t even get to see the Demon King. The most common Demon soldier cut his lower body clean off from behind with a single blade stroke.”
Primrose was speechless.
‘A Hero, and he got bisected by a grunt?’
“What about the god? Didn’t they save him?” Primrose asked.
“According to the records, that god apparently lacked the ability to heal such an injury.”
Cecilia shook her head. “In the end, the Kingdom’s soldiers fought desperately to retrieve the Hero, who was only half a body left.”
“The Hero didn’t die on the spot. He was dragged back to a sickbed in the Royal Capital.”
“Every day he writhed in agony, his screams audible across half the capital.”
“Finally, his wounds festered. He died in excruciating pain, passing away in misery.”
Primrose shook her head as she listened.
‘That’s the classic case of being bad at the game and having no self-awareness.’
‘The Unified Divine Realm’s matchmaking system is definitely broken. Throwing an idiot like that into an SSS-rank world is straight-up murder.’
She glanced over at her mother.
‘Good thing I ended up with Mom.’
‘Mom might be airheaded and clueless about games, but at least she’s Mom.’
‘If I’d been randomly matched with some arrogant, moronic protagonist, I would’ve found an excuse to vaporize that fool at the atomic level before the Demon Race even made a move—just to save myself the annoyance.’
Lin Naiyue, with a troubled expression, looked back at her.
‘Good thing the god I encountered was my daughter.’
‘Otherwise, I would’ve died again the moment I landed.’
Mother and daughter couldn’t help but embrace each other, surrounded by colorful bubbles and shimmering four-pointed stars—a picture of warmth and sweetness.
But Cecilia found it deeply uncomfortable.
In her eyes, Lin Naiyue had initiated the hug, and the Goddess was merely too polite to refuse, going along to comfort her.
‘Lady Goddess is so kind-hearted!’
Cecilia suddenly began to lose herself in her own imaginative world, the same colorful bubbles and sparkling four-pointed stars appearing around her.
The carriage swayed onward along the dirt road. The atmosphere inside had turned strange after the story of the bisected Hero.
“Lady Saint, please mind your image.”
At that moment, the black-haired, silver-armored female knight who had been silently driving the carriage spoke up.
Her voice was clear and cool—instantly recognizable as that of a composed character.
“I know, Yuna.” Cecilia cleared her throat.
This Royal Knight’s name was Yuna, and she had another role: she was specifically in charge of managing Cecilia the Saint’s public image.
Primrose and Lin Naiyue eased their embrace, ready to listen to Cecilia continue, passing the pleasant carriage ride.
“After the first Hero died, the Demon Race grew even more rampant. Humanity’s defense line kept retreating.”
“A hundred years later, the second god and Hero descended.”
“We thought this time would bring a turning point, but who would have guessed—the Hero who came was an even more revolting… maggot.”
When Cecilia said “revolting,” she paused to choose her words.
“Please watch your language, Lady Saint. Saints don’t use words like ‘maggot.’” Yuna said.
“But Yuna knows that part of history too. There’s no better word for it.”
After Cecilia said this, Yuna fell silent—tacit permission, and agreement.
So Yuna proposed, “In that case, allow me to narrate this filthy, disgusting, maggot-infested, beastly history…”
“Stop!” Primrose quickly raised a hand to cut her off. “Those words are enough. No need to go on.”
She felt that if Yuna kept talking, it would turn into outright murder.
“As the Goddess commands.” Yuna’s voice carried through the carriage partition.
Primrose wanted to say it wasn’t a command, but the words caught in her throat. She decided to let it go.
Then Cecilia spoke.
“It was precisely because of the vile deeds of the first three Heroes that people also criticized the gods for doing nothing.”
“Now in this kingdom, gods are universally despised, and Heroes are objects of scorn.”
Cecilia’s tone shifted, becoming fervent. “But! You, Lady Primrose, are different!”
“As the first god personally enshrined by the First King of the Kingdom of Aezera, you are the sole pure sanctuary in our hearts. People still believe you are our last hope!”
After saying this, Cecilia immediately turned her words on Lin Naiyue, her tone carrying a clear warning and reprimand.
“So, I hope this new Lady Hero will take heed.”
“Do not follow the path of those previous Heroes. Do not abuse your status as a Hero to run amok. Most of all, do not bring shame to Lady Primrose.”
“Otherwise, even if the Demon Race doesn’t kill you, the law will…”
Hearing Cecilia’s hostility toward her mother growing sharper, Primrose quickly waved her hand to stop her.
“It’s fine. I can vouch for this… Hero’s character.”
Upon hearing this, Cecilia was taken aback. Was the Goddess shielding the Hero?
Just then.
The carriage happened to pass a village not far from Tattle Town.
The speed slowed due to the uneven road.
At the village entrance, a few children in tattered linen clothes were playing in the mud.
As the carriage passed, the children paused their play, curiously eyeing the grand vehicle.
But soon they turned back, indifferent.
“Hey, did you guys hear? They fought the Demon Race at the city wall today.” A boy with a runny nose said loudly.
“Yeah, yeah! My dad said this time Lady Primrose is definitely going to show up!” A little girl with a sky-high ponytail chimed in.
“Tch.” A slightly older boy with mud smeared on his face curled his lip, full of disdain. “It’s been hundreds of years. No sign of her.”
“If you ask me, she’s a rotten goddess!”
“She never cares about us living creatures down here!”
These innocent, unfiltered words drifted clearly through the open window into the carriage.
The air inside the carriage froze instantly.
