“Fula! What’s gotten into you?”
By now, even Anlis, who usually had thick nerves, could tell something was seriously wrong.
Earlier, she had managed to convince herself—out of trust—that all the weird, uncanny things were actually normal.
But now, every single anomaly had piled up, and there was no way to keep fooling herself!
The Fula standing before her now was definitely not right!
Could this be another test from that Corrupt Monarch, Vylian?
Even though she had already left the area, she still wouldn’t give up. She went after the person Anlis trusted most, using Fula to probe her limits?
Thanks to force of habit, Anlis immediately pinned the blame on Vylian. Now, she even suspected that every strange thing around her was that Demon King’s doing.
After all, in her mind, the only person in the world who would scheme against her and cause trouble at every turn was that Demon King Vylian.
“What’s gotten into me? What could be wrong with me? Anlis, hurry up and open the door. Let me in.”
She was basically the big bad wolf asking the little rabbit to open the door!
Since this was so sudden, Anlis hadn’t even had time to get dressed!
All she could do was press her back firmly against the door, stealing glances with her peripheral vision at her clothes not far away, stretching her toes and straining her foot toward them.
Even though that provocative catgirl outfit was within arm’s reach.
No way! She absolutely wasn’t going to put that on!
“Anlis, the truth is, I love you. I’ve loved you since we were little. Do you understand my feelings?”
“Wh-What the hell?!” Anlis froze, shocked. “Aren’t we supposed to be best friends? Huh?”
What did he mean by “Do you understand my feelings”?
Anlis wasn’t a complete idiot. She caught the meaning behind those words almost instantly.
Wait, hold on.
Could it be that her best friend, just like Vylian, had the hots for her body?
No wonder they always talked about girly topics.
Anlis had never even considered that possibility. She had always thought her relationship with Fula was pure friendship—the best kind of friendship in the world.
She was the kind of person who, even if she was about to be pinned down, would still think Fula was joking.
Oh, Anlis got it now.
There must be some external force influencing Fula’s mind, making her have these weird illusions.
Because, come on, how could a girl like another girl in that way in this world?
And even if that happened, how could it possibly happen to someone right beside her?
Yes, yes. It could even be that Vylian had bewitched her mind on purpose to test her reaction.
Even though she couldn’t figure out what kind of test that would be, what other explanation could there be?
“Fula, calm down a bit. I think something’s off here. Can we just take a moment and talk this through rationally?”
Anlis knew saying this would probably fail, but she was just buying time. The tip of her outstretched foot was almost touching the clothes she had left nearby!
For the first time, she felt that her 5’3″ height wasn’t quite enough.
Being completely naked made it hard to move freely, and even grabbing her clothes was this much trouble.
“Anlis! I want an answer, not you changing the subject!”
Fula banged against the door harder, but her strength was still no match for the now Level 47 Anlis.
Realizing she couldn’t overpower Anlis, she changed her approach.
After all, this was just a regular wooden door.
A scorching flame gathered in Fula’s palm. The orange-red fire flickered as the door quickly caught on fire. The heat crept through the gap.
Anlis felt the temperature behind her spike. She never expected Fula would actually set a fire just to get in!
The heat left her in an awkward dilemma—she couldn’t block the door, but she couldn’t leave it unguarded either. She was stuck.
With no time to spare, Anlis was forced to abandon her previous clothes.
She hastily pulled on the catgirl outfit, using her leg to keep the door shut. She didn’t put on the cat tail or cat ears.
At least this way, her private parts were covered.
The moment she finished putting it on, she leaped backward, trying to grab her normal clothes and quickly change into them.
But by dropping her defense, she gave Fula an opening.
Bang!
The burning wooden door was pushed completely open. Fula raised a hand and waved it to extinguish the flames on the door.
As she stepped into the bathroom, she caught a glimpse of Anlis frantically pulling on her outer clothes. But she only saw flashes of pale skin hidden beneath the fabric for a few seconds—nothing she really wanted to see was visible.
“Anlis, even now, you still won’t let me take a look? Why are you so resistant to me? Aren’t we the closest of friends? Or… could it be that the Saintess is okay?”
“What do you mean by that?”
Anlis had no idea what Fula was getting at, but she could grasp part of the meaning.
Wait, what does she mean?
Was she angry that Anlis wouldn’t show her naked body?
How could she walk around naked in front of someone!
Anyone with even an ounce of shame wouldn’t be able to do that!
That catgirl outfit was practically no different from being naked!
Right?
“Fula, can you please stop being unreasonable?”
“I’m being unreasonable? Anlis, we’ve known each other for fifteen years. I’ve been hinting and influencing you all this time, but you never responded. Why does some Saintess, who just showed up out of nowhere, get to instantly take everything I ever wanted? That’s completely unfair!”
What did she mean by “some Saintess who just showed up out of nowhere gets to instantly take everything I ever wanted”?
Wait, what did Vylian even take?
If anything, the only thing she took was Anlis’s freedom.
“Fula, listen to me. It’s not what you think.”
“Then what is it? You’ve only known her for a few days, and you’re already lovers, aren’t you?”
What did she mean by “already lovers”?
Again, what did that mean?
Anlis felt like she was bearing a heavy burden every single day!
She was about to break down in tears from the humiliation!
And yet, other people looked at her situation and thought she was flirting?
There couldn’t be a more painful statement in the whole world.
If it weren’t for that Anlis cursed bastard putting such a shameless curse on her,
she would swear to keep at least ten meters of distance between them at all times.
Anlis was always a completely straight woman.
If someone put a cute little loli and a burly man in front of her and told her to choose,
she would definitely pick the burly man.
Seriously!
“We’re not in that kind of relationship.”
“I know.”
Fula’s answer was unexpected, leaving Anlis momentarily confused.
“Huh?”
“Since you’re not in that kind of relationship, then develop one with me! If your curse goes off, let me help you deal with it. Cut that Saintess out completely! We’ll live happily together. If you want to go after the Demon King, I’ll always be by your side.”
“We can have lots and lots of children and build a big family of our own!”
“Whatever position you want, I can satisfy it. She’s nowhere near as good as me!”
Anlis felt that the Fula in front of her was getting weirder and weirder.
She knew Fula too well. They had lived together for over ten years. She knew Fula’s personality better than anyone.
Even if her temperament had changed drastically, she would never become this crazy, obsessive, and filled with an indescribable sense of wrongness from head to toe.
Fula took a step toward her. Her normally clear pupils were now tinged with a faint red.
“I love you~ Anlis.”
