Forget-Me-Not.
This name became well-known to people ever since the first Angel descended.
Because she was one of the rare Magical Girls who carried a legacy of inheritance.
A legacy stained with blood and sacrifice.
Unlike other Magical Girls, whose titles could be chosen freely, the inheritance of “Forget-Me-Not” had the cruelest rule—only when the current Forget-Me-Not sacrificed herself and her life completely dissipated from the world would the next Forget-Me-Not be born, taking on this destined tragedy.
You ask, how do you find the next Forget-Me-Not?
The answer is simple.
All Magical Girls named Forget-Me-Not share the same exclusive magical ability—Collapse.
This is a highly destructive magic, not a simple energy attack, but one that can directly erode and disintegrate the target’s Mana core and physical form.
From a small Disaster Beast’s body to a Witch’s Mana barrier, all can be gradually broken down by the power of Collapse.
The power of Collapse increases with the user’s strength.
In the early stages, it can be attached to a weapon, enhancing the attack’s penetration and destructive power.
In the mid-stage, it can release Collapse shockwaves, eroding enemies on a large scale.
But its strongest ability is using the user’s own life as a price, detonating all the Collapse Mana inside them, causing a devastating Self-Destruct.
In history, several Forget-Me-Nots, while still at A-Rank strength, chose to Self-Destruct in order to stop the rampage of S-Rank Witches, trading their lives for one or two S-Rank Witches in a hard-fought exchange, buying the City a chance to breathe.
Because of this, “the final trump card” and “the bomb destined to be sacrificed” became the eternal labels for Forget-Me-Not.
Every girl who becomes a Magical Girl is, without exception, a pure girl with goodwill and a desire to protect others.
They carry the dream of protecting the world.
But only Forget-Me-Not is branded with the mark of “sacrifice” from the moment of birth, her fate doomed to be an irreversible tragedy.
In a dojo, a young girl with delicate features and a slender figure, holding a longsword half a head taller than herself, swung the blade tirelessly in the empty training ground.
Sweat slid down her cheeks, soaking her practice uniform.
Her arms ached so much she could barely lift them, but she never stopped.
Her elderly grandfather stood on the veranda nearby, his stern eyes as cold as ice, fixed on every movement without a trace of warmth.
“Wrong form! Sink your wrist more! Cut fast, accurate, and fierce—don’t dawdle!”
His voice was hoarse and harsh, carrying an unquestionable authority.
Seeing Chu Lingyan’s sword technique deviate again, he grabbed a bamboo rod from the ground and struck her wrist hard.
“Slap!”
A crisp sound echoed through the empty dojo.
Chu Lingyan’s wrist instantly turned red, and the hand holding the sword trembled uncontrollably, the blade wobbling in the air.
“Do you think you’re playing house?”
There was disappointment in his tone, and his eyes grew even harsher.
“You are Forget-Me-Not! Your ability is Collapse! You can only rely on Collapse to fight! Attaching the power of Collapse to your blade is the fastest and most effective way to improve your combat power!”
He walked over and snatched the sword from her hand.
“If you don’t train hard, if you can’t merge Collapse with your Blade Technique, if you can’t make yourself stronger, you’ll just become a bomb that gets detonated early, dying on the Battlefield while you’re still young! Do you think I enjoy being this strict with you? I’m trying to keep you alive! Even one more day alive is better!”
Young Chu Lingyan pressed her lips tightly, gritted her teeth, and didn’t cry or argue.
She silently took the sword back from her grandfather, raised it again, and continued swinging.
Sweat blurred her eyes.
Her arms were completely exhausted.
With each swing, a piercing pain shot through her wrist, but she didn’t dare stop.
Back then, she didn’t understand the weight in her grandfather’s words.
She only vaguely knew that she was different from other Magical Girls.
She carried something terrible.
Chu Lingyan didn’t know why she was chosen to be a Magical Girl, nor why the cruel ability of “Collapse” had chosen her.
When she was little, she had dreamed like other girls of becoming a Magical Girl, wearing a beautiful Combat Suit, waving a Magic Wand, protecting everyone in the City, becoming a hero admired by all.
But when she truly awakened her magical power, was given the name “Forget-Me-Not,” and learned of her fate, that hope and longing were instantly replaced by fear.
Why?
Why me?
Am I… just a bomb meant to be lit?
Will I inevitably Self-Destruct early, like my grandfather said?
According to her grandfather, her grandmother was once a Magical Girl who died before she was born, sacrificing herself to stop a Disaster Beast calamity.
Her father was a Police officer with a sense of justice, but a few years ago, while executing a mission to eliminate Cultists, he was brutally killed by them—his body couldn’t even be recovered intact.
Her mother was also a Magical Girl, quite skilled, but she died in a fight against a Witch while protecting citizens.
Of the large family, only she and her grandfather, who ran a declining dojo and grew older each day, were left.
She thought that if she just trained her sword well and mastered the power of Collapse, she could break her fate—protect her grandfather, protect everything she wanted to protect.
But time didn’t give her enough room to grow.
That day, dark clouds gathered, a fierce wind howled.
An A-Rank Witch suddenly broke into the dojo.
Her target was clear—to hunt down this still-undeveloped Forget-Me-Not.
At the time, Chu Lingyan was only a B-Rank Magical Girl, far weaker than her opponent.
After a few exchanges, she was battered and bruised.
The hand holding the sword ached terribly, blood seeped from her wounds, and her vision started to blur.
“Xiao Yan, run!”
Her grandfather, covered in blood, shouted at her.
To protect her, he had thrown himself in front of the Witch.
The Witch’s Mana struck him, leaving a deep wound in his chest, blood gushing out.
But he didn’t back down an inch.
Using his last bit of strength, he grabbed the Witch’s leg tightly, preventing her from getting near Chu Lingyan.
“Run! You’re the last hope! Don’t die at the hands of this trash!”
The Witch, enraged, gathered black Mana at her fingertips.
Countless black Mana spikes suddenly swarmed forward, piercing her grandfather’s body again.
Chu Lingyan watched helplessly as her grandfather’s body slowly grew cold, the light in his eyes fading, until he was completely still.
In that moment, Chu Lingyan’s world completely collapsed.
Only one thought filled her mind: I should Self-Destruct.
I can’t let this madwoman keep running wild.
I can’t let Grandfather’s sacrifice be in vain.
Even as she thought this, her body trembled uncontrollably.
She was so afraid of death.
She was only a teenager.
She hadn’t yet seen the world properly.
She hadn’t fulfilled her dream of protecting others.
She didn’t want to die like this, didn’t want to be a bomb detonated early.
The Witch snorted, threw off her grandfather’s corpse roughly.
The body hit the ground with a dull thud.
“Last hope? Ha, just a pathetic sacrifice. I’ll put you out of your misery.”
She walked toward Chu Lingyan step by step, her eyes full of mockery and murderous intent.
“I’ll kill you!”
Chu Lingyan’s eyes turned red.
With the last of her strength, she raised her sword and charged at the Witch.
But the gap in power was too vast.
“Crack!”
A crisp sound as the longsword shattered instantly under the Witch’s Mana.
Chu Lingyan was sent flying by a huge force, slamming heavily against the wall with a muffled thud.
The taste of blood churned in her throat.
Her bones felt like they were broken.
It hurt so much.
She couldn’t help but spit out a mouthful of blood.
Her vision grew dimmer.
She didn’t even have the strength to raise her hand.
The Witch slowly walked up to her, reached out, and clamped her hand around Chu Lingyan’s throat.
In a cold, mocking tone: “What? No more fighting? Where’s that spirit from before?”
But in the next second, she froze—Chu Lingyan’s face, previously full of pain and fear, suddenly twisted into a manic smile, a resolute light sparkling in her eyes.
Chu Lingyan had already pushed the power of Collapse inside her to its peak.
Blood-red cracks began to appear on her body, and her Magical Power Fluctuation surged wildly—the precursor to a Self-Destruct.
“Shit!”
The Witch’s face turned pale.
Her eyes shrank. Instinctively, she wanted to let go and run—even a B-Rank Forget-Me-Not’s Self-Destruct was enough to severely wound or even kill an A-Rank Witch like her.
But just then, a blood-red longsword flew through the air with sharp precision, stabbing straight through her head.
The black Mana dissipated instantly.
The Witch’s body collapsed limply, completely lifeless.
“Wha… what…”
Chu Lingyan’s consciousness began to fade.
The backlash of Collapse brought excruciating pain all over her body.
Just as she thought she would completely disappear, a warm pink Mana suddenly enveloped her, forcibly suppressing the raging Collapse inside her, stopping the Self-Destruct.
“Thank goodness! Just in time! Are you… okay?”
A gentle yet anxious voice sounded by her ear.
In her final moments of awareness, Chu Lingyan only caught a glimpse of pink-white hair and a pair of bright, worried eyes.
Then she fell unconscious.
