The air froze.
Weiluoya’s mind went blank.
Her body’s instincts reacted faster than her thoughts.
She let out a short gasp, crossing her arms over her chest in an attempt to block the softness that had already grown to a certain size.
But the move was clearly futile.
It was like playing the demolition mode in a shooting game.
When the defending team focuses all their attention on point A, point B is left wide open for the attacking side to charge straight in.
And right now, Xialvdi was that attacker.
She saw point A being heavily guarded, so she decided to break through from point B.
Veiled by the cascading blonde hair, the beautiful scenery was hidden within.
Wow.
Xialvdi thought to herself.
‘This nightgown is so white.’
‘I want a taste.’
Her gaze eventually returned to Weiluoya’s small, flustered and angry face.
Two small flames had already ignited in those blue-green eyes.
Her cheeks and the tips of her ears were red enough to bleed.
Xialvdi curved the corners of her mouth in satisfaction, revealing a meaningful smile.
She hadn’t forgotten that she had opened the door because she “forgot” to take something.
She blinked at Weiluoya, as if she hadn’t seen anything at all, casually grabbed a bathrobe from the hook by the door, and then considerately closed it.
“Got it, got it.”
Humming a tuneless little song with an excellent mood, she turned and walked back into the bathroom.
“Bam!”
The sound of the door closing finally snapped Weiluoya back to reality.
She was still frozen in that hands-crossed-over-chest position, rooted to the spot like a statue instantly petrified.
She’d been seen completely.
From head to toe, she had been seen cleanly by that woman.
She wasn’t clean anymore.
She looked down at herself, then up at the closed bathroom door.
An indescribable sense of grievance and shame welled up inside her.
She quickly pulled on her nightgown, buttoning several buttons wrong in her haste, then stormed over to the bed and threw herself into the soft duvet, burying her head under the pillow.
It’s over.
Everything is over.
She had no secrets left in front of that woman.
Weiluoya: ᆞ⌓˂̣̣̥᷅
She let out a despairing whimper beneath the pillow.
After an unknown amount of time, the bathroom door opened again.
Xialvdi had already changed into her pajamas and was drying her wet black hair with a towel.
She saw the lump on the bed and knew a certain little cutie was in there questioning their life.
She walked over to the bed and gently patted the small mound.
“Weiluoya, are you okay?”
“No!”
A muffled, tearful voice came from under the duvet.
Xialvdi suppressed a smile and lifted a corner of the duvet, revealing Weiluoya’s puffed-up little face.
“Go away!”
Weiluoya glared at her, eyes red-rimmed.
“You go sleep on the living room couch right now, or go home!”
Upon hearing this, Xialvdi put on a wounded expression.
“Why?”
She shrugged with feigned innocence.
“Didn’t we agree to sleep together tonight?”
“I don’t want to sleep with you!”
Weiluoya sat up, pointing at the door, her tone forceful.
“You’re a bad woman. You… you saw me…”
She couldn’t finish the sentence, her cheeks flushing bright red again.
Seeing her like this, Xialvdi knew it was time for her to step in and spin things.
She wiped the smile off her face, her expression becoming immensely wronged, and her eyes reddened as well.
“Weiluoya, how can you say that?”
She looked at Weiluoya as if on the verge of tears, her voice full of the pain of being misunderstood.
“Do you think you’re the only one who got seen?”
“I got seen by you too!”
Xialvdi pointed at herself, looking like her innocence had been ruined.
“You just now saw me from head to toe, crystal clear, and now you want to kick me out? You… you irresponsible woman!”
Weiluoya: “?”
Is that how it is?
That seems right.
She had indeed just seen Xialvdi all over.
“I…”
Weiluoya’s confidence immediately halved.
“So,”
Xialvdi saw her chance and pressed the advantage, leaning in and grabbing Weiluoya’s hand, looking at her with a plaintive gaze.
“Since you’ve seen everything, shouldn’t you take responsibility for me?”
Responsibility?
How is she supposed to do that?
Weiluoya was completely confused.
She stared at Xialvdi’s face which practically screamed “You must be responsible for me,” her mind a complete blank.
“Then what do we do?”
she asked instinctively.
“Simple.”
A glint of triumph flashed in Xialvdi’s eyes.
She held Weiluoya’s hand tightly and shook it.
“From now on, you have to sleep with me. That’s your duty to me!”
Weiluoya looked at her, then thought about how she had indeed “made a mistake” just now.
In the end, under the weight of Xialvdi’s flawless logic and aggrieved gaze, she nodded dazedly.
“Fine.”
So five minutes later, the two of them lay in the same bed.
Even though it was the same bed, the distance between them was wide enough to fit three more people.
Weiluoya pressed herself tightly against the left edge of the bed, wrapping herself in the duvet like a roll, turned her back to Xialvdi, and closed her eyes.
‘As long as I fall asleep, the awkwardness can’t catch up to me.’
She thought that, trying to empty her mind.
In the darkness, she could clearly hear the breathing coming from behind her.
After a while, she felt the mattress behind her sink slightly.
A warm body was quietly, little by little, moving closer to her.
Weiluoya’s body tensed.
She didn’t move, pretending to be asleep.
The heat source moved a little closer, almost touching the duvet behind her.
Weiluoya reached out a leg and lightly kicked backward.
The heat source paused, then started tirelessly moving toward her again.
Weiluoya couldn’t take it anymore.
She spun around abruptly, glaring at the blurry outline in the darkness.
“Xialvdi, get back over there!”
she hissed, her voice fierce.
Xialvdi let out an innocent little hum in the darkness.
“But we agreed,”
she said softly, coaxing.
“Lovers should hug and sleep pressed together.”
“That’s what it says in the books.”
Xialvdi had browsed the bookshelf and books in the room while Weiluoya was showering.
She had discovered a blind spot: her little cutie was actually pretty naive.
A lot of her detective knowledge and common sense came from books, meaning Weiluoya really identified with what was written in them.
So as long as Xialvdi could bluff her with something from a book, this little cutie would obediently go along.
Weiluoya: “…”
She felt like she was getting caught up in that twisted logic again.
Weiluoya took a deep breath and gave up resisting.
“Just a little bit,” she compromised.
“Okay!”
Xialvdi immediately chirped in agreement.
The next second, a warm, soft body pressed up against her.
Like a cat that had found its nest, she skillfully hugged Weiluoya from behind.
Her arms wrapped around Weiluoya’s waist, her cheek nuzzling affectionally against the back of her neck.
Warm breath brushed across Weiluoya’s skin, sending a series of fine shivers down her spine.
Weiluoya’s body was stiff as a board.
She felt like she was being strangled by an octopus, unable to move, just letting herself be completely enveloped.
Oh, forget it.
She closed her eyes.
‘What’s done is done. Let’s just sleep first.’
