After bidding Fini farewell, Lorevil returned home, the scent of food already drifting through the air.
“You’re back?”
Noxia carried dishes out from the kitchen, still wearing an apron, clearly having just finished cooking.
“Yeah, did I keep you waiting long?”
A warmth spread through Lorevil’s heart.
After tidying up, she stepped forward and ruffled the girl’s hair.
“It’s fine, I actually just finished cooking.”
Noxia shook her head, her gaze landing on the small bag slung over Lorevil’s shoulder.
“What’s that?”
“This? It’s something that can detect the bloodline energy in one’s body.”
Lorevil pulled a transparent crystal orb from the bag—the one belonging to Vivian.
“Oh, that… is a Detection Orb? Can you test me with it right now?”
Noxia asked with a puzzled, innocent look.
She had been training with instructor Elini recently, and her physical condition had improved considerably.
At the very least, she could chop vegetables with a Kitchen Knife without her fingers cramping up.
Lorevil nodded, then took Noxia’s slender wrist and pressed the Detection Orb against the girl’s palm.
Following the awakening method from before, Lorevil injected a faint wisp of Blood Qi, activating the Detection Orb.
Noxia watched the orb expectantly.
However, the flowing light inside the orb flickered only once before going completely dark.
If there were a number, it would mean blank.
Not the slightest fluctuation of Blood Energy.
“That’s impossible…”
Lorevil’s eyes widened, and she swallowed hard in disbelief.
“That’s impossible, but…”
Any Vampire should have Blood Energy.
Yet the scene before her was undeniably real, leaving no room for doubt.
“Could the Detection Orb be broken?”
Lorevil frowned and tried it on herself—the orb instantly lit up with a deep crimson glow.
“It’s fine. Noxia, try again and see what happens.”
Lorevil handed the Detection Orb to Noxia and ran the test again, but the result was the same.
The Detection Orb showed no reaction at all!
Noxia’s face turned pale, her body swaying slightly, as if she couldn’t accept this fact.
There was no possibility for her to cultivate Blood Energy.
Because she had no Blood Energy in her body at all—not even a trace, not even a sliver!
Lorevil refused to believe it.
She gripped Noxia’s wrist and, using her own Blood Energy fluctuations, carefully examined the situation inside her wife’s body.
But to her surprise, it was completely empty.
Even the most basic Bloodline energy that ordinary Vampires possessed was like barren land, devoid of any vitality.
“How is it?”
Noxia looked at Lorevil with her adorable, pitiful face.
“Noxia, the Detection Orb… didn’t detect any Bloodline Energy.”
Lorevil looked at her wife’s expectant eyes, and even though she hated to disappoint her, she had to tell the truth.
The expression on Noxia’s face stiffened, and her eyes gradually dimmed.
“What… did you say?”
She had dreamed of becoming a proper Vampire, but the truth was so cruel that it completely severed any possibility of her advancing.
Staring at the unmoved Detection Orb, Noxia hung her head low, tears clouding her eyes, her pale fingers clutching tightly at her apron, her shoulders trembling slightly.
“I completed all of Elini’s training tasks, even stuck through the weighted runs, and ate food rich in Blood Qi…”
Lorevil remained silent.
The food Noxia ate was packed with Blood Qi, yet none of it remained in her.
To Lorevil, that was truly hard to understand.
Could it be that Noxia’s constitution was special enough to filter it all out?
If she had no Blood Energy, then how did the darkened Noxia cut down with a single slash?
“Without Blood Energy, I can’t cultivate, and I can’t advance anymore…”
Noxia’s eyes turned red.
Lorevil shifted her gaze to the delicate dishes laid out on the table.
There was the blood marrow soup and grilled meat she loved, along with a small portion of pastries.
All of it had been prepared with great care by Noxia.
Lorevil could imagine Noxia finishing the meal early, waiting for her return, full of hopes about cultivating Blood Energy.
But what came instead was the worst possible news.
The was too great, and at this moment, the hopes and expectations Noxia held for the future were completely shattered.
Noxia was an ordinary Vampire.
Even if her talent was mediocre, she should still have the most basic Bloodline Energy.
How could she be completely empty?
This was far too strange!
“Noxia, what rank is your older brother at home right now?”
So Lorevil steadied herself and changed the subject.
Noxia sniffled hard, her voice low.
“Second rank…”
Seeing her lovely little wife on the verge of tears, Lorevil quickly stepped forward and embraced her, comforting her in a soft voice.
“Then let’s go to your house on Saturday.”
Feeling Noxia’s emotions, Lorevil carefully chose her words.
“Maybe we can find some answers from your family. Perhaps there’s a way to help activate your Bloodline Energy.”
“Go… to my house?”
Noxia’s body stiffened the moment she was held, her face growing even paler, her tearful eyes filled with fear.
Out of fright, she instinctively stepped back half a pace, wrapping her arms around herself.
“I don’t want to go…”
Lorevil came back to her senses.
The reason Noxia’s family had proposed her as a fiancée in the first place was likely related to her inability to advance.
Meanwhile, Noxia’s older brother had successfully broken through to the second rank and was highly valued at home.
In fact, Lorevil even suspected that this was exactly why Noxia had been looked down upon and ostracized, leaving such a deep psychological scar.
With that thought, Lorevil looked at the top of Noxia’s head—the Darkening Blood Bar began to rise, climbing from its original seventy percent.
This blow had pushed Noxia’s emotions to the brink of collapse.
She was about to Darken.
Lorevil wanted to slap herself.
She knew Noxia’s family situation was bad, yet she still brought up the topic and provoked her.
“Alright, alright. Going to your house is just to figure out the Blood Energy matter.”
Lorevil steeled herself, reached out, and pulled Noxia into her embrace, gently stroking her wife’s back as she comforted her softly.
“We don’t need to mind anyone else’s attitude. Whenever you don’t want to stay, we can leave at any time.”
Luckily, Noxia could still listen to those words; otherwise, Lorevil had no idea what she would do.
As time passed, the Darkness Value slowly decreased, and Noxia’s body gradually relaxed in Lorevil’s arms, her trembling growing smaller and smaller.
Lorevil let out a sigh of relief and continued to comfort her.
“Lorevil… I don’t want to go home!”
Noxia looked at Lorevil with tearful eyes, her pretty face flushing slightly.
Lorevil swallowed hard, struggling to stay calm, and gently carried her wife toward the dining table.
“Noxia, listen, let’s eat first. We won’t talk about it, okay?”
Lorevil said softly.
Noxia was still scared, but she didn’t dare disobey Lorevil, so she could only nod in agreement.
Still, Noxia kept clinging tightly to Lorevil and refused to let go.
Lorevil had no choice but to sit on the chair with her in her arms.
“I’ll feed you.”
With that, Lorevil picked up a spoon, scooped up some soup, blew on it, and brought it to her wife’s lips.
Noxia obediently opened her mouth and drank it. The warm food made her feel a little better.
But she still refused to let go, clinging tightly to Lorevil’s neck.
Lorevil sighed. Well, she’d just keep holding her then—she was used to it anyway, as long as she was happy.
If she really made Noxia let go, the girl definitely wouldn’t eat, and the result would be an empty stomach at night, unable to sleep.
After the meal, Lorevil carried Noxia to the bed, gently laid her down, and covered her with the blanket.
“Don’t think too much tonight. Just get a good night’s sleep.”
“No matter what happens, I’ll be by your side.”
Lorevil gently kissed her wife’s forehead, then lay down as well.
Noxia obediently closed her eyes, feeling Lorevil’s body heat.
She no longer held any expectations.
Even if she had no Blood Energy, it was fine, because Lorevil was by her side.
Just that alone was enough to forgive this bad news.
What would she do without Lorevil?
With Lorevil here, at least these days of training had some value.
The fear and unease in Noxia’s heart slowly faded away.
But Lorevil was still awake at this moment, her brow unable to relax.
