Where had this thing come from?
It was indeed a good question.
“I-I picked it up?” Gu Qianqian probed foolishly.
“You’re asking me?”
Lin Feiyu frowned.
The piece of spiral steel in her hand had no traces of oxidation or corrosion and was still very new.
For this off-campus base, that was not common.
This place was neither clean nor tidy.
Although broken and rusted steel pipes could be seen everywhere, spiral steel of such new quality could not be casually picked up.
Even if there truly was some, with Gu Qianqian’s clumsy movements, she herself would be able to see through it at a glance.
“I-I just… picked it up when I rolled on the ground earlier…” Gu Qianqian said pitifully.
In any case it was not the first time she had lied to the heroine.
Even knowing the other did not believe her, she could not possibly say this was something she had exchanged with the Dog System using 1 Favor Point.
Just now, seeing that Lin Feiyu was having some difficulty fighting the monsters and even had to snap off the horn of a Sharp-Horned Bug to use as a weapon, Gu Qianqian had a flash of inspiration and exchanged for this thing.
It was not expensive.
Just one Favor Point.
Lin Feiyu had been so happy just now that she tore off the Whisperer’s vocal organ and gave it to her. Had she not netted 4 Favor Points?
Mainly she had been inspired by Lin Feiyu earlier snapping a water pipe and stabbing that small Steel Jaw Worm to death.
Moreover, picking up a piece of spiral steel was far more reliable than picking up a sharp chopping knife.
Sure enough, seeing Gu Qianqian’s appearance of not intending to tell the truth, Lin Feiyu did not continue questioning.
First, now was not the time to talk about these things.
Second, Gu Qianqian having one more secret or one less made no difference. When the time came Lin Feiyu would ask about them all together, and this one now did not matter.
“Heh, let’s go.”
Without further nonsense, Lin Feiyu continued forward, with Gu Qianqian following closely behind.
During the period when the two had been blocked by the Whisperer, Zhao Zirou had already hammered the second giant Steel Jaw Worm to explosion.
It was only a pity that she had previously gone to resist the monsters on the main building side, and now was battling three giant Steel Jaw Worms, already having expended quite a bit of strength.
This last giant Steel Jaw Worm continuously drilled underground to dodge her attacks while using the mouthparts on its body to resist her giant hammer. For a time the fatigued Zhao Zirou had no good way to deal with it.
As for the other guards and teachers, at this moment they could no longer care about Zhao Zirou’s side either.
The dormitory building had completely lost its protection.
Gray Infant Angels and other bird-type monsters had already torn through the windows and drilled into the dormitory rooms or corridors to forage, seeking a buffet.
Students who had been scared senseless were directly swallowed by the monsters, letting out waves of miserable screams.
The rest all fled the dormitory building in panic, only to discover that outside was filled with monsters everywhere.
Xu Ming and the other teachers and guards wanted to stop the students desperately fleeing while also having to attack the monsters diving down from the sky.
For a time they were likewise exhausted from responding.
Quite a few students, while running, were seized by the shoulders by Gray Infant Angels and directly lifted into the air, disappearing into the distant darkness.
Leaving behind only the miserable screams of “Save me, I don’t want to die.”
Outside the base gates, countless monsters smelling the scent of blood launched frontal attacks.
The guards were already nearly unable to hold on.
In contrast, the main building side was in a roughly similar situation.
You Wende, Ran Yan, and the others joined forces with many guards wanting to lock down the defensive line, yet as the number of guards and students who had met with disaster increased, added to the bloody scent of the dead demonic creatures, it nearly stimulated even more monsters to surge out.
Almost endlessly, the more they fought the more there were.
The defensive line in the direction of the main building was already in critical danger and could collapse at any time.
There was simply no way to support the gates or the dormitory building side.
In the direction of the warehouses, quite a few logistics personnel had also taken up weapons and joined the battle.
Quite a few students seeing this also wanted to go over and take some weapons and equipment for self-defense.
Only at this time did the students know how naive the things their families had prepared for them were.
Setting aside that some portable crossbows they did not know how to use, their accuracy was also poor, and the power was insufficient to break defenses at long range.
Even for very powerful corrosive potions, they very easily got them on themselves or attacked classmates.
For those monsters flying in the sky, how to pour the corrosive potions onto them was a very large problem.
If this kind of thing was not used well, it was simply a disaster that hindered more than helped.
Fortunately she had clung tightly to the heroine’s thigh early on.
Looking at those teachers and guards, looking at that Sister Zhao, staying by their side was far too dangerous.
Because Gu Qianqian and the other had taken the other side of the main building, and the main battlefield was on You Wende and the others’ side, after clearing the Whisperer, for the time being no monsters had come over here.
These beasts greatly favored places with large amounts of blood and death. It was not very likely they would bypass the main building to come to their side.
Upon reaching the destination, Lin Feiyu who had been vigilant the entire time finally relaxed.
Yet Gu Qianqian was a bit curious. How were they supposed to get outside the base from here?
In the current situation, the monsters were all desperately attacking places where crowds were dense and the bloody scent was strong. Going outside was indeed relatively safer.
But…
Blinking her large, foolishly cute eyes, Gu Qianqian looked at the mountain body in front of her, as well as the connection between the walls and the mountain body, and could not understand what Lin Feiyu had brought her here for.
There was no door here either.
“H-how do we… get out from here?” Gu Qianqian could not help asking.
By this time she had already placed the Whisperer’s vocal organ into her backpack.
Although it was disgusting, it was a material of very high value.
Between being poor and loving cleanliness, Gu Qianqian very pragmatically chose money.
Most critically she did not dare throw it away.
The appearance of the heroine fighting monsters just now was still vivid before her eyes. How ferocious, how violent!?
If she threw away the thing the other had given her and made Lin Feiyu unhappy, the one who would be dismantled would be herself, right?!
Yet Lin Feiyu had no intention of answering her. She only thrust the spiral steel into the ground, then forcefully lifted.
A manhole cover concealed by weeds flew up.
Gu Qianqian curiously looked over, never expecting there was actually a manhole cover here.
Yet Lin Feiyu suddenly stretched out a hand, directly lifted her up, and threw her down.
“Waaaaaah!!!!”
Suddenly being thrown down made Gu Qianqian unable to help screaming.
Only after landing on the ground did she discover she had fallen onto a clump of water plants.
She had thought she would take a hard fall. Now the little shorty let out a breath of relief.
It also benefited from her being very light. Otherwise this clump of water plants truly might not have been able to block the impact force of her fall.
Lin Feiyu jumped down right after and covered the manhole cover.
Gu Qianqian looked back and only then discovered there was actually a section of iron stairs connecting to the manhole cover, yet it was rusted, with many places already fallen off.
One could not help but doubt that stepping on it would cause it to rot away.
“Wh-where is this?” Gu Qianqian stood up and asked.
In the plot of her previous life that Gu Qianqian had previously seen, this underground passage had not appeared.
The explosion sounds, monster roars, and screams coming from outside could still be clearly heard.
Yet in front of them was a passage overgrown with various mosses and underwater plants.
In the middle was a ditch full of rotting plants and water weeds, similar to a sewer.
Some plants were emitting a faint glow, and the water surface reflected the faint glow, providing light for this dark and damp place.
Quiet, and peaceful.
Suddenly dropping from a world full of danger and death into here, the strong contrast made Gu Qianqian even feel a kind of unreal illusion.
“The base is backed against the mountain. During the rainy season there will be a lot of water. This is used for drainage and connects to outside the base.”
Lin Feiyu rarely explained once, then led Gu Qianqian toward the passage in one of the directions.
Actually she still had words she had not said—those who knew about this sewer were already very few.
Not many more than those who knew about the secret passage behind the mountain.
If not for her having come here many times in her previous life, she most likely would not have known about such a place either.
Not daring to ask more, Gu Qianqian lowered her head to identify the surrounding plants while continuously plucking materials and putting them into her backpack.
There was even Mute Fern here. Not taking it would be a waste!
Lin Feiyu looked back at her once and did not stop her, only the gaze in her eyes became much deeper.
It had to be said that this underground passage still had quite a few years on it.
The smell inside was both stifling and carried the decaying air of age.
Fortunately, as someone who had even eaten Mute Fern, Gu Qianqian indicated she could still endure it.
The only thing that made her worry was the movements coming from overhead, as well as those giant Steel Jaw Worms capable of splitting mountains and earth.
What if the sewer was also punched through, or a Steel Jaw Worm suddenly emerged to block the way and take a bite out of her?
Yet as they walked, Gu Qianqian bumped into Lin Feiyu’s back.
Just as she was about to apologize fearfully, Gu Qianqian raised her head to look, only to discover Lin Feiyu standing there as if facing a great enemy, her gaze fixed dead ahead.
There, there was a person!?
