Chapter 9: I’m Just a Priest Who Insta-Kills  

Facing the aggressive charge of the Sky Treader Guild members, Bai Yue Ling remained unfazed. 

She calmly raised her staff, magical energy flowing along it like shimmering light, as if preparing to cast a skill.

Seeing this, Xue Zhongxun Mei signaled her group to halt, warily eyeing Bai Yue Ling.

What was she casting? 

Some kind of powerful skill?

But… priests only had support skills, right?

Pure holy light slowly gathered into a sphere. 

With a flash of white light, an unremarkable Holy Light Orb floated out from the tip of her staff, drifting lazily toward the Sky Treader members.

The group froze for a moment before erupting into raucous laughter.

“Hahaha! Did you see that? She cast a Holy Light Orb!”

“This little girl’s trying to charm us with a Holy Light Orb.”

“What’s a Holy Light Orb gonna do? Break my panties?”

Watching the orb, Ying Ye, however, couldn’t laugh.

She vaguely recalled when she was bound by the Tree Demon, Little White had cast a Holy Light Orb at it.

And then the Tree Demon was inexplicably obliterated.

Could it be…?

Ying Ye instinctively took half a step back, her beautiful eyes staring at Bai Yue Ling in disbelief.

At that moment, Bai Yue Ling wore a sweet smile—radiant, yet tinged with disdain and a hint of malice. 

It reminded Ying Ye of a term trending online recently—

Xue Zhongxun Mei stifled her laughter. 

“Little girl… I admit you’re pretty cute. Are you trying to entertain us with this skill to weasel your way into our guild?”

“Join you? I’d rather go to Blood Era and be Xueyu’s lackey,” 

Bai Yue Ling said, her cherry lips curving into a grin, revealing pearly white teeth. 

“If you kneel and beg me now, I might just let you off~”

“Kneel and beg you? Hahaha!”

Xue Zhongxun Mei led the group to crowd around the Holy Light Orb, their faces brimming with provocation and arrogance. 

She boldly extended a finger, waiting for the orb to float closer.

“What can this little Holy Light Orb do to me? Watch, I’ll touch it and see how much damage it—”

As her finger made contact, a blinding white light engulfed everything, as if daylight itself had descended.

Driven by Bai Yue Ling’s 99 Spirit stat, the pure holy energy transformed into a blazing storm, sweeping through everything in its path. 

In an instant, it eradicated all life within its radius.

The Sky Treader players dissolved into beams of white light, just like the unaffiliated players they’d killed earlier. 

Unlike those players, though, they died with smiles on their faces, unaware they were already gone.

Bai Yue Ling stood frozen, her delicate pink lips parting slightly.

“So my Holy Light Orb is that powerful?”

Before her lay a 5-meter-radius crater, completely empty—everything had been incinerated to ash by the searing holy light.

The A-rank boost from her 99 Spirit stat was terrifying!

“The damage is insane, almost on par with a Level 40 skill, but the drawbacks are obvious—it’s too slow and too conspicuous,” 

Bai Yue Ling muttered. 

“Good thing these idiots were dumb enough to stand still and let me hit them. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been this easy…”

This skill was only good for catching people off guard. 

If she fought Sky Treader again, they’d definitely be more cautious…

Whatever. 

She’d deal with that later.

Meanwhile, Ying Ye’s eyes were wide, her mouth agape as if she could fit an apple inside.

What just happened?

How could a priest deal such terrifying damage? 

Wasn’t the Holy Light Orb just a filler skill?

Staring at the horrifying crater, Ying Ye clutched her ample chest, her mind and body reeling from the shock.

Even if those 19 players stood still for her to kill, it would’ve taken her a while. 

Yet Little White had wiped them out with a single skill…

Bai Yue Ling turned to Ying Ye, her expression serious. 

“I’m a heroic priest. I’m not cheating.”

Ying Ye’s lips twitched as she gave a wry smile. 

“Little White, I never thought you were cheating.”

Even so, Ying Ye’s attitude had subtly shifted.

Before, she’d seen herself as the stronger one, treating Bai Yue Ling as a fragile priest in need of her protection, quietly watching over the adorable girl.

But after witnessing her terrifying power, Ying Ye realized she was the one who needed protecting.

Back at the Tree Demon, it was Little White who saved her, wasn’t it?

Ying Ye lowered her gaze, a few more strands of darkness flickering in her eyes.

She looked up to see the Slime dragging its massive, jelly-like body toward them at a snail’s pace.

Its health was below 10%. 

One Holy Light Orb would finish it off, and the World First Kill achievement was within reach.

But staring at the Slime’s nearly depleted health bar, Bai Yue Ling hesitated.

Wait… could monsters be corrupted too?

Bai Yue Ling cupped her soft chest, causing her priest robes to stretch taut, and pondered.

The more she thought, the more feasible it seemed.

Though Ying Ye was nearby, corruption was an invisible mental skill. 

As a newbie to World of Fate, Ying Ye wouldn’t notice anything amiss.

“Ying Ye, I’m about to use a mental skill,” 

Bai Yue Ling said, her eyes sparkling. 

“I might pass out afterward, so please carry me back if I do.”

Ying Ye was curious. 

“What kind of skill?”

Bai Yue Ling lied effortlessly. 

“It’s a skill I got from a little Easter egg when I created my character—a gift from the system. It’s kind of my little secret.”

“A secret?” 

Ying Ye paused. 

“Alright, I won’t pry. Everyone’s got their secrets, right?”

Ying Ye was a polite girl, knowing the best way to bond with a friend was to respect their boundaries.

After her warning, Bai Yue Ling munched on a wild fruit to restore her mana, took a deep breath, and summoned a dark halo and wings.

She fixed her gaze on the distant Slime, dark light flashing in her eyes, and whispered, 

“Corrupt… Fall!”

The moment the words left her lips, her eyes rolled back, and she collapsed like a defeated fish.

Then, the system notifications rang out.

[Congratulations! You have defeated the avatar of the Slime Queen. Team experience increased.]

[Congratulations! You have reached Level 7.]

[Congratulations! You are the first player worldwide to defeat a BOSS. Would you like to broadcast a World Announcement?]

[Due to your prolonged inaction, the system has automatically made the decision for you.]

On the first day of the server’s launch, on this bright and sunny morning, nearly all players were bustling about—fighting monsters, leveling up, gathering materials, and running errands for NPCs in the beginner village.

Suddenly, a resounding notification echoed in every player’s ears, and a golden announcement floated above their vision.

Seeing the announcement, players stopped what they were doing, and an eruption of heated discussion followed.
