Evan met the Duke of Roheim immediately upon arriving at the capital of the Roheim Duchy, Epcalion.

He was currently engaged in conversation with him in the reception room.

Soft green hair, neatly groomed.

The Duke looked surprised at Evan’s words.

“So that’s what happened. The remnants of the past, you say. And here I am, preparing for the anniversary of Lady Eris in these tumultuous times. How shameful.”

“But then, why don’t you get involved with affairs in the duchy?”

“Didn’t I say? Half the military authority is in my brother’s hands.”

“Then…”

“Though it’s called half, I’m nothing more than a puppet Duke in Roheim. After my wife passed away, no true member of Roheim remains. I’ve only been guarding the duchy in her stead, filling her absence. If I stay quiet, I can at least protect this place.”

His face was filled with sorrow.

Rolten looked at Vengor in disbelief.

Vengor pulled something out from inside his mouth.

A tiny glass vial, barely the size of a finger.

Inside was a small, rolled-up slip of paper.

If he’d kept it inside his body, it must be important.

“Why are you bringing that out now?”

“If you help, I’ll hand over this order and everything else I know.”

“Why are you suddenly doing this?”

“I thought the world would change. I always believed that. But now, seeing reality, my illusions have shattered.”

Rolten scratched his head, then nodded.

“Why the sudden urgency? Is something going on?”

Vengor immediately pulled out the order from the vial.

Then he recited its contents.

“To all commanders: After the first attack attempt, launch a total assault on the Kingdom Capital.”

“…Insane.”

Rolten couldn’t help but curse.

Vengor continued.

“Our side was only supposed to hit and retreat—just make a show of force, it seemed. But now, I don’t think that’s even the case.”

Countrymen dying mercilessly in the villages.

Facing the reality, all dreams crumbled away.

Maybe that’s why he finally felt completely awake.

Rolten let out a deep sigh.

To stop this course of events, at least the army would have to intervene.

But with the king standing firm, there’s no way to deploy them in the Kingdom Capital.

“An emergency royal summons…?”

Clyd and Delian had already departed for the Kingdom Capital.

The message instructed him to send Evan to the Kingdom Capital immediately.

‘Of all times, a royal summons now…’

Rolten pulled out his lifelong summary journal from his pocket.

‘Every time there was a royal emergency summons, something big happened.’

This time, the summons required all family successors to attend as well.

As this was Evan’s first time being summoned before the king, anxiety began to well up inside him.
