The two of them left the Warehouse District and headed toward the Main Gate.
The path was very long with many forks; one wrong step and they could get lost.
Noah was somewhat glad she hadn’t killed Ouruola.
Otherwise, with all these forks, she could wander around 800 times and still not find her way out.
Noah followed Ouruola as they turned left and right through the forks.
After advancing for about ten minutes, they finally saw an open area.
It was the Main Gate.
This area was very large, and it wasn’t just the Main Gate—the Research Institute’s front desk was also here.
The style here was also gray metal walls, with a huge dark red carpet on the floor.
The lighting at the Main Gate was brighter than in the corridors; the light tubes on the ceiling emitted a glaring light, indicating plenty of electricity.
On both sides of the front desk were workstations left by the former office staff, but the equipment had already been moved out, except for some indoor plants that were no longer needed.
The most valuable thing at the Main Gate might be that password lock.
Noah and Ouruola leaned against the corridor wall, peeking sideways at the people at the Main Gate.
These people belonged to the so-called [Sin] Organization. There were only about 20 to 30 people, among which a few stood out as the organization’s high-ranking members.
These six people were all dressed in strange costumes. Except for a tall man in a white coat and glasses who was fiddling near the password lock, the others were just standing around idly.
Noah carefully observed them and softly asked Ouruola,
“Are these your former teammates?”
“Yeah,” Ouruola replied.
She pointed at the person in front of the password lock.
“That one in the white coat holding a laptop is [Pride]. He’s still trying to crack the password, but I don’t know how far he’s gotten.”
Noah was about to ask for more information when a thunderous voice erupted from the Main Gate.
A man with a full head of red hair, like an explosive lion, kicked over a potted plant in front of him.
He pointed at the man in the white coat and shouted furiously,
“Can you do it or not?! We’ve been watching you fiddle around here for days! You’re useless except for putting on airs!”
The roar startled Noah.
She instinctively stepped back and glanced at Ouruola.
“Are all your teammates like this?”
“Even worse,” Ouruola replied helplessly.
“The one yelling is called [Fen Nu]. Looks like their progress isn’t optimistic…”
After hearing [Fen Nu]’s outburst, [Pride] glanced at him, then continued tapping on his laptop keyboard without even the desire to talk to him.
[Fen Nu] grew even angrier.
He swung the large blade in his hand and vented for no reason.
“Fucking hell, you just keep that sour face! Who do you think you’re looking down on?! Believe I’ll chop you up with one swing!”
With that, [Fen Nu] raised his large blade, strode over to [Pride] in a few steps, and raised the blade to strike.
But the next moment, a magnificent man in a suit grabbed [Fen Nu]’s wrist and kicked him aside.
The suit man shook his wrist and said with displeasure,
“Enough. Do you want to get your arm broken again? Go stand over there. If you disturb [Pride] while he’s cracking the password again, I’ll crush every bone in your body!”
[Fen Nu] knew he was no match for the suit man, so he didn’t dare yell loudly.
He muttered a few words and vented his anger on the large door.
[Fen Nu] raised his blade and struck the door heavily several times.
Not only was the door undamaged, but it even shattered [Fen Nu]’s blade.
Cursing, [Fen Nu] gathered the broken pieces, quickly walked behind the front desk, and shouted at a cat-eared girl imprisoned in shackles,
“Stop playing dead! Get up and fix my blade!”
Hearing [Fen Nu]’s voice, the cat-eared girl opened her eyes and glanced at him.
She pursed her lips and lowered her head again, saying nothing.
Noah leaned out slightly to look at the cat-eared girl.
She wore a simple black long-sleeved robe.
Her long black cat ears drooped forward, looking severely tortured.
Her silver-white hair inexplicably gleamed with a metallic luster, sparkling under the front desk lights.
Noah retracted her head and looked at Ouruola with confusion.
“Is she also your teammate? Why is she locked up?”
“No, she’s the organization’s tool,” Ouruola shook her head.
“This cat girl is Failed Product [B0012]. The Truth Organization injected her with the divine power of the Spirit of Struggle, giving her the ability to melt steel and reshape weapons.
Unfortunately, she was unwilling to join the Sin Organization, so they defeated her and imprisoned her here, forcing her to repair weapons for them.”
Noah looked closely at the cat girl’s handcuffs and leg irons.
“If she can melt metal, why doesn’t she free herself?”
Ouruola shook her head.
“I don’t know. Maybe her handcuffs are made of alloy or something beyond her ability.”
Noah wanted to ask more, but [Fen Nu]’s angry shouts interrupted her thoughts.
She saw [Fen Nu] grab the cat girl by the throat and lift her up, shouting loudly,
“Bitch! Did you not hear me?! Hurry up and fix my weapon, or I’ll split you in half!”
Although her throat was gripped, the cat girl showed no sign of choking.
She stared coldly at [Fen Nu]’s ferocious face, then spat a mouthful of saliva onto his face.
[Fen Nu] was furious.
He flung the cat girl aside, picked up his broken blade, and raised it to strike.
But before he could act, the suit man had already snatched the weapon away and kicked [Fen Nu] away.
The suit man threw the broken blade aside like trash and clapped his hands with disgust.
“I told you, no more abusing prisoners. Are you deaf?!”
The kick was so powerful that even [Fen Nu]’s chest caved in, and it seemed he wouldn’t survive.
But [Fen Nu] still writhed on the ground, his injuries visibly healing, and within moments, they were fully restored.
‘Regeneration?!’
Noah stared in amazement at [Fen Nu]’s self-recovery.
She glanced back at Ouruola and saw her expression unchanged, as if this had happened many times before.
The suit man no longer bothered with [Fen Nu].
He crouched gently in front of the cat girl and said in the gentlest tone he could manage,
“I apologize for my organization member’s rudeness. But you know, if you refuse to join us, you’ll be tortured to death sooner or later. I hope you’ll think it over again.”
The cat girl coughed heavily. She struggled to prop herself up, fixed her blood-red pupils on the suit man, and said word by word,
“You — wish —”
Hearing the cat girl’s answer, the suit man narrowed his eyes.
He slowly stood up and gave orders without looking back.
“Come forward, [Se Yu]!”
“Hahaha~ I’m here, boss!” A young man with a golden hedgehog hairstyle stood up from a nearby workstation.
He shook off the nearly naked women beside him and eagerly approached the suit man.
He rubbed his hands excitedly and asked the suit man with extreme anticipation,
“Boss, you’re finally letting me touch her? Hehe… to be honest… I’ve had my eye on this little beauty from the start…”
The suit man seemed to enjoy the pleasure of commanding others.
He looked at the cat girl collapsed on the floor and said with a cold smile,
“Miss Xin, if you truly refuse to join our Sin Organization, then I’ll have to treat you as a prisoner of war. Using a prisoner to reward my subordinates is very reasonable, isn’t it?”
