Creak~
Phyllis pushed open the creaky wooden door with her shoulder.
This shack was even more dilapidated than she remembered, but it could barely provide shelter from the wind and rain.
Inside, there was only a simple wooden bed and a lopsided wooden chair.
Phyllis carefully placed Carola on the bed.
The night did not affect the Catkin’s vision much.
Phyllis sat on the wooden chair, looking at Carola.
Carola was still unconscious.
Phyllis bit her lower lip.
This was likely caused by excessive blood loss.
The solution was simple: replenish her blood.
Phyllis’s gaze fell on her own wrist, her blue eyes flickering.
This part was also simple:
She would use her own blood.
However, here was the problem.
Usually, Carola was the one who initiated the blood-sucking directly.
Even that one time Phyllis had proactively offered it, Carola had been the one to strike.
Phyllis had never tried to proactively offer blood while Carola was unconscious.
‘It’s not like it’s the first time I’ve had my blood sucked, and besides, Carola is unconscious right now…’
Phyllis rolled up her sleeves, revealing her fair wrist.
Drawing from her experience with injections in her previous life, she tore a strip of cloth from Carola’s skirt and tied it tightly around her upper left arm.
This way, the blood vessels would be clearer.
“Whew…”
Phyllis took a deep breath, and sharp claws suddenly extended from the fingers of her other hand.
“It’s going to hurt a little…”
Phyllis murmured, seemingly trying to convince herself.
Slash!
Even though she was mentally prepared, Phyllis still couldn’t help but gasp the moment her nails sliced through the skin.
“It hurt!”
Bright red blood quickly seeped from the wound.
Phyllis did not dare delay and hurriedly pressed her bleeding wrist to Carola’s lips.
Blood fell drop by drop onto Carola’s lips.
At first, there was no reaction.
Just as Phyllis thought the method wouldn’t work, Carola’s body suddenly twitched.
Driven by the instincts of the Blood Tribe, the unconscious Carola slightly opened her mouth and latched onto Phyllis’s wrist.
“Mm~”
Phyllis let out a soft groan as she felt Carola’s sharp fangs pierce her skin.
She could feel the blood flowing from her body into Carola’s.
However, under the effect of a certain special blood-sucking ability of the Blood Tribe…
Phyllis felt the pain being replaced by a strange numbness.
This caused Phyllis’s brow to relax slightly.
But soon, Phyllis felt dizzy.
This forced her to use her other hand to support herself against the edge of the bed.
Phyllis’s vision began to blur.
‘I can’t pass out! I can’t pass out now!’
Phyllis steeled her resolve and bit the tip of her tongue, using the sharp pain to keep herself conscious.
Carola was currently unconscious; if Phyllis passed out too…
Then the two of them might end up in a very dangerous situation.
Fortunately, just as Phyllis felt she couldn’t hold on any longer, Carola let go.
Phyllis weakly withdrew her hand and saw the wound on her wrist healing at a visible rate.
This was the effect of Carola’s Gift.
Phyllis looked at Carola.
With Phyllis proactively offering blood, Carola’s breathing finally stabilized.
Carola opened her eyes.
Initially, her gaze was vacant, but it quickly focused on Phyllis.
“Phyllis…”
Carola’s voice was still raspy, but it had more life in it.
“I’m here…”
Seeing Carola calling her name, Phyllis quickly responded.
“Thank you for your hard work.”
Even though the wound on Phyllis’s hand had disappeared, Carola could still tell what Phyllis had just done.
“It’s nothing, it’s nothing…” Phyllis waved her hand.
“So, how are you now…”
“Much better, thanks to you.”
Carola’s finger gently brushed across Phyllis’s palm.
The atmosphere between the two suddenly became delicate.
“Did you miss me during these past few days?”
Carola propped herself up on the bed and asked Phyllis lazily.
Phyllis suddenly threw herself into Carola’s embrace.
“I missed you!”
“…”
Carola tightened her arms, pulling Phyllis completely into her embrace.
She rested her chin gently on top of Phyllis’s head, her long white hair intertwining with the black cat ears.
“Stupid meow…” Phyllis said muffledly, her voice a bit blurry through Carola’s clothes.
“You ran so far even though you were injured.”
“If I didn’t run this far, how could I see you?” Carola’s voice came from above Phyllis’s head, carrying a hint of a smile.
“What were you thinking when you saw me coming down like a meteor?”
“I was thinking, ‘It’s over, my peaceful days are finished, meow~'”
Phyllis said with an intentionally exaggerated tone, but the arms wrapped around Carola’s waist tightened a bit.
“Did you really come just because… you missed me?”
“Of course!” Carola’s fingers gently combed through the hair on the back of Phyllis’s head.
“There was some friction between the Blood Tribe and the Machine Race, and I was involved in handling it for a while. After I finished… I could no longer suppress my longing for you and rushed over. When I kissed you, I only then remembered I had forgotten to feed, which led to unstable breathing and an inability to suppress the Original Blood…”
“I see, meow~”
Phyllis felt relieved.
It turned out Carola wasn’t being hunted by some powerful existence; she had just missed her so much that she forgot about her own condition.
“I’ve been a bit tired lately, so I just happened to come to your place to rest…”
Carola gently patted Phyllis’s back.
“So, you’re a runaway?” Phyllis asked.
“You could say that.”
Carola did not hide her motive.
“I see…” Phyllis lay on top of Carola.
“But will it really be okay without anyone watching the Blood Tribe prisoners in the Scarlet Dungeon?”
“They’re fine. Because of the friction between the Blood Tribe and the Machine Race, the Ventrue Clan decided to release them all to atone for their crimes through service.”
Carola shrugged.
“Huh?”
Phyllis’s eyes widened.
“Yeah, so I came to your place with peace of mind…”
Carola’s words didn’t reveal much emotion.
But Phyllis knew clearly that Carola was very angry.
Back in the castle’s basement, Carola had happily introduced her collection to Phyllis.
And now, these collections with over 100 years of history were released just like that under the orders of the Ventrue Clan?
No wonder Carola came to find her.
Carola must be very angry, right?
“I am very angry, but not in the way you think…” Carola stroked Phyllis’s cat ears.
“When I went to the Blood Tribe’s main city, that member of the Setite Clan who came to the castle before actually dared to target you! I killed him on the spot. Those collections were part of the price.”
“What do you mean, meow?”
Phyllis was somewhat confused.
“It’s nothing. It just means you don’t have to worry about those vampires targeting you in the future because… you are mine.”
Carola slightly curled her lips.
“I can’t deal with you, meow~”
Phyllis turned her head away, not daring to look at Carola.
“Let’s get this straight first: my place doesn’t have the same luxuries as your castle!”
“As long as you are here, anywhere is fine~”
Carola smiled.
“Sweet talker, meow!”
Phyllis said this, but her cheeks betrayed her by turning red.
“Get up! This bed is making my back ache.”
Carola patted Phyllis again.
“My bed is about the same as this one!”
Phyllis obediently rose from Carola’s body.
“Then it’s far too different from the bed in the castle!”
Carola said with a hint of helplessness.
