Chapter 5: Guess?

Seeing her “precious collection” tossed into the river, Gu Mixue let out an indescribable shriek on the spot.

Unfortunately, it was too late; the USB drive filled with “study materials” had already vanished into the surging currents.

After disposing of the item, Gu Bai took a deep breath, pinched Gu Mixue’s cheek, and said sternly:

“Listen, little sister, that kind of stuff isn’t for looking at. If Mom and Dad found out, you’d be fine, but I’m pretty sure they’d break my legs.”

“Looking doesn’t mean I’ll go out and do it,” Mixue grumbled through her pinched cheeks.

“It’s not like I can’t tell the difference between 2D and 3D.”

Once he had her assurance, Gu Bai breathed a sigh of relief.

“Alright, stop pestering your big brother,” he said with a yawn.

“I played games with my roommates all night; I’m as drowsy as a sickly chicken right now.”

“Oh.”

Mixue nodded and stood there blankly, not moving an inch.

“Well? Get out. How am I supposed to sleep if you’re still here?”

“Didn’t we spend countless days sleeping together growing up?”

Mixue said righteously.

As she moved to kick off her shoes and climb onto the bed with her bare feet, Gu Bai grabbed her collar like he was picking up a kitten and hauled her out of the bedroom.

He left the lingering Mixue outside with a single sentence: “The past is the past. Now is now.”

Poor Gu Mixue was left sitting on the floor outside the door like an abandoned kitten.

When Gu Bai eventually woke up, he brushed his teeth and washed his face.

Stepping into the living room, he checked the time: it was nearly 1:00 PM.

Gu Mixue was sprawled on the sofa with her legs crossed, her white-stockinged feet pointing toward him.

Following the line of her slender, pale legs upward, he—unsurprisingly—saw some things he shouldn’t have.

“Mixue, don’t sit like that when you’re wearing a skirt.”

Gu Bai helplessly averted his gaze.

Instead of realizing her mistake, Mixue lifted a corner of her skirt and teased, “Yo, yo, yo~ Big Brother says I shouldn’t look at ‘Brother x Sister’ stories, but where exactly are your eyes wandering?”

“That’s a completely separate issue.”

Gu Bai looked away indifferently.

Even knowing she wasn’t his biological sister, he had no designs on her.

Romantic sparks require a certain distance, and he was far too close to this female creature named Mixue.

“Tch…”

Mixue huffed, her attempt to tease him having failed.

“I hate that you’re such a blockhead.”

“Stop talking nonsense. Have you eaten? If not, I’ll take you to the Nanjiang University cafeteria for something good.”

While cafeteria food at some universities was lackluster, Gu Bai felt that Nanjiang University’s was top-tier and reasonably priced, with a variety that rivaled most street-side restaurants.

“Of course!”

Mixue said indignantly.

“I’ve been starving myself for three days just to fleece you for a massive meal!”

“Is that really necessary?”

Gu Bai sighed deeply.

By the time they arrived at the cafeteria, it was 1:00 PM.

Most students had already left, leaving only a few stragglers wandering around looking for food.

Gu Bai picked up a tray and some dishes and told Mixue:

“Mixue, go get the rice—it’s free, but don’t take too much.”

With that, he turned toward the various windows to order dishes: braised pork ribs, tomato and scrambled eggs, braised beef…

When it came to food, Gu Bai never mistreated himself.

Even if it wasn’t as good as his own cooking, eating out was convenient, and the prices were a steal.

By the time he brought the dishes back, Mixue was already sitting obediently across from him.

As soon as the food arrived, she began devouring it like a starving ghost, despite her cute appearance.

As they ate, some nearby students noticed him.

They looked at Gu Bai, then at Mixue, and began whispering.

“Look, look! That poor kid wasn’t kidnapped by Gu Bai, was she? She looks like a middle schooler… so pitiful.”

“Harassing Su Shuhao wasn’t enough, so now he’s reaching his claws toward middle school students?”

The voices weren’t loud, but both siblings heard them.

Mixue couldn’t help but ask, “Brother… is this how people usually talk about you at school?”

Her tone carried a hint of heartache, but Gu Bai replied nonchalantly, “I’m used to it. Hearing them gossip actually makes me want to laugh.”

“Ah…”

Mixue wanted to say more, but after a moment’s thought, she decided not to dig deeper.

“True. Let’s just eat.”

The two ignored the stares and continued their meal.

But their peace didn’t last long before a voice filled with surprise and confusion rang out nearby.

“Gu Bai?”

Gu Bai looked up to see Su Shuhao and her best friend standing a short distance away.

They were looking at him and then at Mixue, their eyes filled with shock.

Gu Bai had never told Su Shuhao about his sister—or rather, even if he had, she likely wouldn’t have cared enough to remember.

Su Shuhao walked over quickly and stood before the table, looking down at Gu Bai.

“We’ve only been broken up for a few days, and you’ve already found someone new? And she looks like a middle schooler? You’re a scumbag.”

By the end, Su Shuhao nearly slammed her hand on the table in a fit of anger and jealousy, but she managed to restrain herself.

She couldn’t understand how he could change so much.

She had assumed he would come crawling back within days.

Yet, in less than twenty-four hours, he was hooked up with a girl who looked far younger than him.

To Su Shuhao, it felt as if something that rightfully belonged to her had been inexplicably stolen by someone else.

“Who is she?”

She demanded, her mind clouded by resentment.

Just as she was about to continue, Mixue seemed to grasp the situation.

She looked at Su Shuhao, then at her brother’s indifferent side profile.

She suddenly hooked her arm around Gu Bai’s and said playfully:

“Why don’t you guess?”
