Chapter 7: Could I Actually Be the Protagonist?

In the end, the young girl still didn’t succeed.

It wasn’t because she had given up, but because… seeing the black cat’s claws glinting with a cold light under the lamp, Luo Yunzhi smiled awkwardly.

She wasn’t foolish enough to let her face get a few extra scars just for the sake of beauty. 

After all, she was a girl and still cared a lot about her looks.

Even if poverty meant she didn’t dress up or have any makeup.

“I’ll go make dinner for you then.” 

She gently placed the black cat onto the sofa and ran into the kitchen. “You must be hungry too, right?”

“Meow.”

I am a bit hungry.

“Meow.”

Make it taste good.

Bai Ziyu pawed at the sofa, casually made herself a spot, and lay down inside it. 

She closed her eyes comfortably and silently stared at the young girl’s back.

Because the other party had school, Bai Ziyu only got two meals a day. 

There were no snacks in the house either, and she couldn’t cook herself.

It would be too easy to get caught.

After saying that, Luo Yunzhi started busying herself in the kitchen. 

Pots and pans clattered, but surprisingly it wasn’t too noisy.

Instead, it had a cozy, homey feel. 

Bai Ziyu couldn’t help thinking that in her previous life as a human, she hadn’t had many friends, let alone a romantic partner.

She would usually eat out, then return to her somewhat cold home to play games, sleep, and repeat the cycle the next day by going to work.

Now that there was suddenly someone by her side… she didn’t feel any discomfort at all. 

In fact, she found this situation rather… comfortable?

The black cat shook her head.

She jumped down from the sofa.

Like a lion patrolling its territory, the black cat went into the kitchen and leaped onto the stove. 

Her vertical pupils looked quite bewitching under the light.

Bai Ziyu’s pupils were a deep pink. 

Thin wisps of steam from the pot floated up, making them resemble sparkling glazed gems.

Luo Yunzhi stared at those eyes for a long time. 

She didn’t know if it was her imagination, but she seemed to see a glimmer of humanity in those pupils.

It must be her imagination… right?

She bit her lip.

“What’s wrong? Are you already hungry?” 

Luo Yunzhi shook off the ridiculous thought and curved her lips into a gentle smile.

“It should be ready in two or three minutes.” 

She said, poking the black cat’s plump cheek with her fingertip. It felt great. 

“You can eat once it’s done.”

Bai Ziyu let out a meaningless “meow” and stared at the stewing pot in front of her. The contents were finally no longer pumpkin mush.

It looked like potatoes? 

Bai Ziyu wasn’t sure, but judging from the way it was stewed, it probably wouldn’t taste much better.

Luo Yunzhi really couldn’t cook.

She confirmed it once again.

Luo Yunzhi’s life was very routine. 

She woke up in the morning, ate breakfast, went to school to study, then after school went to the convenience store to work part-time to earn living expenses.

When she got home, she would make dinner, eat, finish her homework, take a shower, play on her phone for a while, and then go to sleep.

If Bai Ziyu had to describe it, it was an incredibly tough life. 

It was hard to imagine that the other party had already gotten used to this kind of lifestyle for so many years.

The black cat pawed at the TV remote.

Feeling a bit bored.

Tonight’s stewed potatoes were predictably not delicious, but at least the grilled sausages saved the meal, so dinner was barely acceptable.

It was similar to the days when she was straying a few days ago. 

Although people occasionally fed her burgers and such, they were always cold and dry.

They weren’t even as good as that hot, albeit terrible, potato mush.

“Meow~”

This feels kind of strange~

The black cat lifted her head. 

Her beautiful eyes suddenly shifted toward the bathroom. 

Luo Yunzhi had gone to shower again, and the splash splash splash of water could be heard nonstop.

This “old rundown place” really wasn’t well-built. 

Not only did it have poor sound insulation, but even the bathroom curtain was somewhat see-through.

Perhaps it was the previous landlord’s… well, it was probably for the couple’s fun. 

The bathroom side facing the sofa had no solid wall blocking it.

Instead, there was frosted glass, and combined with the slightly transparent curtain, Bai Ziyu could even see the young girl’s silhouette while she showered.

Just like right now.

Luo Yunzhi was applying body wash.

Between her legs?

The black cat’s face darkened. 

Though as a black cat, her face was already black. 

Bai Ziyu was speechless and quickly looked away.

Even though she could only see the shadow and had probably misunderstood the girl’s movements, there was nothing she could do about it. 

Silhouettes actually made people’s imaginations run wild.

The black cat snorted. 

Her paws stepped on the cushion beneath her with slight irritation. 

She wasn’t a pervert, so she had no intention of continuing to peep.

As for developing any other kind of emotion?

That was even more impossible.

Bai Ziyu didn’t even have the “tool” for it anymore. How could she have any other feelings? 

She simply thought it would be very awkward if she got caught just now.

Yeah… that was all it was.

“Meow meow.”

It’s puberty, after all.

“Meow.”

It’s normal to have those kinds of desires.

“Meow.”

Or maybe I’m misunderstanding.

The black cat shook her head. 

In the end, she simply buried her entire cat head under the pillow to block out the sound of water coming from the bathroom.

When Luo Yunzhi finally walked out of the bathroom drying her hair, she saw the black cat had buried herself like she was trying to dig a hole and hide in it.

She paused for a moment, then nearly laughed out loud in amusement. 

She coughed lightly to cover her embarrassment and walked over to the sofa.

“Little White?”

Luo Yunzhi called softly.

There was no response.

“Little White.”

Still nothing.

“Little… Well, never mind.” 

Luo Yunzhi simply reached out, grabbed the black cat by the scruff of her neck, and lifted the little cat into the air.

Being held by the back of her neck, Bai Ziyu lifted her eyes. 

Those deep pink pupils reflected the girl’s figure, flickering intermittently under the light.

“Meow.”

What?

One downside of being a cat was that Bai Ziyu also had a cat’s weaknesses. 

Being held like this, she couldn’t even muster the will to resist.

Maybe it was something hardwired into her genes. 

Sometimes it was really inconvenient. 

The black cat felt it was necessary to train against this.

Bai Ziyu lazily yawned. 

Cats spent most of their time sleeping, so she was feeling quite sleepy right now.

“Meow.”

Let me go.

“You want me to let you go?” 

Luo Yunzhi was stunned. 

This time she was certain she wasn’t imagining it. She had understood the other party’s meaning from the meow.

After a brief hesitation, the young girl placed the black cat back onto the soft sofa. 

As soon as she landed, the black cat jumped onto the pillow and curled up neatly.

Her breathing quickly became even, as if she had fallen asleep in less than half a second. 

Her little body rose and fell like a fluffy ball.

Luo Yunzhi sat beside her.

“Could I really understand cat language?” 

The young girl murmured to herself. 

She hadn’t had much experience with cats. 

“Could I actually be the protagonist?”

After all, protagonists usually had some kind of cheat ability.

That would be pretty normal, right?
