Chapter 8: Is This Right?

Luo Yunzhi was slightly dazed. 

She turned her head to look at the black cat, her gaze fixed on the other party as if lost in thought. 

Her pupils seemed a little unfocused.

The black cat’s ears twitched randomly. 

Bai Ziyu lifted her head as if sensing something. 

She hadn’t actually fallen asleep—she had only been pretending.

“Meow meow?”

Why are you staring at me?

“Meow.”

Pervert.

Luo Yunzhi’s particularly intense, heated stare made the black cat feel uncomfortable. 

She snorted, then raised a paw and patted the young girl’s leg.

The girl was wearing a nightgown, so the cat paw landed squarely on Luo Yunzhi’s thigh. 

There was a slight weight to it, almost like a threat.

“Huh? Little White?” 

Luo Yunzhi snapped back to reality. 

Noticing the black cat in front of her, she paused for a moment before the corners of her mouth curved into a small smile.

“So you weren’t asleep after all.”

“Meow.”

Of course not.

The black cat took a step back and sat on the sofa. 

Her gaze drifted to the young girl’s thigh, where a cute little cat-paw print now marked the skin.

She seemed a bit too plump… Well, being able to eat was a blessing. 

Besides, maybe Luo Yunzhi was just too delicate, which was why the paw print had stayed.

That’s what Bai Ziyu told herself.

“Meow.”

Eat more.

Luo Yunzhi blinked. 

She hesitated, trying to decipher the meaning behind the cat sounds. 

“Little White, are you… telling me to remember to eat more?”

Bai Ziyu stayed silent.

“Meow.”

No.

The black cat denied it, then jumped to the floor. 

As if wanting to put more distance between them, she dashed a few steps and leaped onto the windowsill, pressing her body against the frame.

Luo Yunzhi was sharper than Bai Ziyu had expected. 

Even though the meows carried hidden meaning, most normal people wouldn’t have picked up on it.

But this girl was something else.

Was this some kind of talent?

“Meow.”

What a pain.

The black cat paced back and forth on the windowsill, feeling a little irritated. 

She still couldn’t fully trust the other party. 

Not knowing her well enough made her feel uneasy.

If her secret got discovered, what would Luo Yunzhi do? 

Bai Ziyu couldn’t be sure. 

She turned her head and stared quietly at the young girl’s face.

She seemed to have thought of something.

“Meow.”

“Little White, what did you say?”

“Meow meow.”

“I can’t understand.”

Seeing Luo Yunzhi’s puzzled look, Bai Ziyu’s heart finally settled.

As long as she didn’t mix any real meaning into her meows, it would be fine.

If she just made meaningless “meow” sounds every now and then, the girl would think her earlier understanding had just been a fluke. 

No need to worry about her secret being exposed.

Bai Ziyu yawned.

She didn’t want to go back to being a stray.

The black cat lay down on the windowsill. 

The cool surface actually felt pretty nice. 

She half-closed her eyes and silently watched the young girl.

“Huh? That’s strange.” 

Luo Yunzhi scratched her head. 

She had suddenly stopped understanding Little White. 

It really had just been her imagination before.

“It must be body language.” 

The young girl thought to herself and nodded firmly at the idea. 

“After all, Little White’s actions are pretty easy to read.”

She had simply subconsciously translated those actions into human language. 

It wasn’t that she could actually understand cat speech, and she didn’t have any special ability.

But thinking about it, Luo Yunzhi deflated like a punctured balloon. 

“Ugh, I got excited for nothing.”

After all, if she really could be the protagonist…

That would be so great~

Unfortunately, reality had hit her hard. 

She was just an ordinary person… even more ordinary than ordinary, with nothing unique about her at all.

Not to mention the giant “POOR” sign hanging over her head.

Luo Yunzhi flopped around a couple of times in frustration. 

Then her elbow suddenly bumped into something, making her hiss in pain and nearly jump up.

The young girl reached out and grabbed it—her phone. 

She unlocked the screen on instinct, and the video she had been watching earlier popped up again.

“Carrot?”

“Awesome!”

Luo Yunzhi froze for a few seconds, then shot upright like a carp leaping out of the water. She clutched the phone. 

“That’s right! I still have this!”

She seemed thrilled, the corners of her mouth lifting into a smile. 

She turned her head and looked at the black cat with sparkling eyes. 

“Hehe, my cute and smart Little White~”

That sweet, syrupy voice echoed through the somewhat empty room. 

The black cat’s eyes widened, her fur looking like it was about to puff up completely.

“Meow.”

Gross… so gross.

“Carrot.”

“……”

“Tissue.”

“……”

The black cat sat on the edge of the windowsill, watching the young girl point at the two items in front of her with a completely blank expression. 

She lifted her head in confusion and looked at the other party.

Bai Ziyu was speechless. 

She was acting exactly like an ordinary cat should. 

No one looking at her would spot any flaws.

But Luo Yunzhi was puzzled.

“Why isn’t Little White moving?”

“……”

The black cat nearly shut down at the girl’s words. 

Her outward appearance was clearly that of a stray cat. 

How could a stray cat possibly know what a tissue or a carrot was?

A cat could be smart, but being too smart would probably look like possession. 

Bai Ziyu sighed and let out a weak, listless “meow.”

“Meow.”

Idiot.

Luo Yunzhi blinked.

“Did I just get insulted?”

Although the young girl wasn’t entirely sure she had understood, the black cat’s seemingly helpless look made her feel like her intelligence had been mocked.

However, Luo Yunzhi wasn’t about to get into an argument with a cat. 

She rubbed her chin and finally came to a conclusion. 

“Little White probably just doesn’t like it, right?”

Black cat: ?

Where did that conclusion even come from?

Bai Ziyu was completely lost.

Seeing Luo Yunzhi about to give up, and with this hard-won chance at making money about to slip away, the black cat didn’t want to go back to eating those “Cthulhu” mush meals every day.

Bai Ziyu twitched the corners of her mouth, then stretched out a paw and tapped the carrot. 

With a light swipe, she knocked it straight off the windowsill.

The carrot rolled away with a clatter. 

The young girl heard the sound and looked over, then hurried to pick it up and put it back on the sill before speaking on reflex.

“Carrot?”

“Meow!”

Awesome!

Bai Ziyu placed her little paw on the tissue next and gave it a gentle push, sending it tumbling off the windowsill to the floor just like the carrot.

“Tissue?”

“Meow!”

Awesome!

Wait… wasn’t something off here?

Both the human and the cat froze.

“Hmm, is this right?” 

Luo Yunzhi clicked the upload button and sent the video to the trending app. She still felt completely dazed.

She had changed into proper clothes earlier and used her phone to re-record the whole scene. 

The result was exactly the same as before.

But why was she the one naming the carrot?

And the cat was the one saying “Awesome”?

“It… it should be fine, right?” 

Luo Yunzhi wasn’t sure. She glanced up at the black cat. 

The cat had already curled into a ball and fallen fast asleep.

She checked the time—past midnight. 

The young girl decided not to overthink it and plugged in her phone to charge. 

“Whatever, I’ll just go to sleep first~”

As for the video?

It probably wouldn’t go viral… right?
