It was time for Bai Lili and her group to complete the mission in the Level 3 Hunting Zone.
The information Bai Lili received from the Academy Head was that this was a special individual—possibly mutated—and its strength was no longer suitable for the Level 3 Hunting Zone, otherwise it would disrupt the zone’s balance.
The main reason was to ensure student safety; the threat needed to be eliminated first. As for the Thunder Wolf incident, that had indeed been an accident. That Thunder Wolf seemed to have some purpose, and after that event, the teachers never saw it again.
Bai Lili and the others assembled at the teleportation gate for the Level 3 Hunting Zone. The teacher in charge nodded and activated the gate.
Bai Lili entered the hunting zone first. What greeted her eyes was a terrace covered in coral, with colorful bubbles occasionally rising around her—like a waterless海底 world from a fairy tale.
Lilith, Su Ruo, and Qing Hanyin followed closely behind. Seeing the hunting zone, Lilith couldn’t help but exclaim,
“It’s so beautiful!”
The sunlight was just right, illuminating the entire hunting zone. Vivid colors filled everything in sight. If Bai Lili had to describe the difference between hunting zones, the Level 1 zone was like a primeval forest, while the Level 3 zone was like an ocean world on land.
Su Ruo and Qing Hanyin also saw the full view. Qing Hanyin showed no surprise, while Su Ruo—though not outwardly obvious—was slightly dazzled.
She knew the academy’s hunting zone environments well. Levels 1–2 were mostly ancient forests, but those were just the outer areas. The inner ancient forest was sealed off by the Academy Head, and ordinary students couldn’t enter.
Similarly, Levels 3–5 were this kind of coral terrace, and the lower sections here were also sealed. Magical beasts could come and go freely, but students could not enter the lower levels.
The academy’s highest Level 6 Hunting Zone was a place full of rocks and crystals, most of it sealed off. Su Ruo had seen battles there and was deeply impressed.
All hunting zones had specific open times, probably to ensure that no high-level magical beasts appeared inside.
Bai Lili was curious about how this environment formed. She picked up a shell from the ground—it was very shiny, reflecting sunlight.
Lilith followed behind Bai Lili, while Su Ruo and Qing Hanyin kept a vigilant watch.
Bai Lili took out the map the Academy Head had given her. It marked the locations where this magical beast appeared, its lair, and an attached picture. The beast looked like a Dilophosaurus with two antennae on its head and blue scales covering its body.
Bai Lili put away the map and said to the three beside her,
“Follow me. We’re going to its usual spot.”
She first chose a water source, reasoning that the beast would come here to drink. Leading the other three through the area, she noted that aside from everything else, the scenery was truly beautiful—a clear blue sky without the skyscrapers of the city, and the air was very fresh.
After walking for a while, Bai Lili’s group reached the water source, but she didn’t see the beast. She checked the map—there were two other places they hadn’t visited.
Just as Bai Lili was looking at the map, a Level 3 magical beast with ill intentions prepared to ambush her. Lilith quickly spotted its position.
The beast charged. Su Ruo and Qing Hanyin readied themselves to engage. But then, from somewhere, a dazzling flash of light burst out, stunning Bai Lili’s group and that beast alike.
It hard-locked everyone present for a few seconds. When they came to, the beast turned and fled. Bai Lili recalled that the Academy Head had given this beast the nickname “War Correspondent.”
She thought to herself, ‘That name fits perfectly. That flash just now locked us down for a few seconds—not long, but enough.’
After dealing with the Level 3 beast, Bai Lili looked around and found some footprints with a blue scale beside them. She picked it up and compared it with the photo from the Academy Head.
Confirmed—it was from the target beast. Bai Lili checked the direction of the footprints, then verified with the map in her hand—it was heading toward its lair.
Turning to Lilith, Su Ruo, and Qing Hanyin, she said,
“We’ve found the target. Let’s follow it.”
Bai Lili was protected in the middle as they advanced toward the beast’s lair. A few Level 3 magical beasts jumped out along the way, but against the other three who were all Level 4, they were easily kicked away.
After walking for a while, they reached a cave. The walls were embedded with the same shiny shells Bai Lili had picked up earlier, glittering brightly.
Bai Lili peered inside. The magical beast was sound asleep, its entire body covered in blue scales, while its limbs and slender tail were purple.
Bai Lili estimated the beast was only about three meters tall, yet the Academy Head had rated it as Level 4.
Lilith and Su Ruo flanked Bai Lili, while Qing Hanyin stood in front. The beast seemed to hear their approach and got up extremely quickly.
Lilith and Su Ruo both had excellent close-combat abilities. They quickly closed in on the beast. Bai Lili scanned the surroundings, feeling that these glittering shells were not just ordinary decorations.
The beast was pushed back under the combined assault of Su Ruo and Lilith. Then, the two antennae on its head parted, revealing a smooth membrane. In an instant, a blinding white light flashed. Lilith and Su Ruo immediately covered their eyes.
Even so, they found the intense light dazzling. Just as they thought it was over, the shells on the walls suddenly burst with blinding light as well, disorienting them.
At the cave entrance, Bai Lili was also struck by the strong light and couldn’t open her eyes. Then another flash left her dizzy.
She suddenly understood why this beast was rated Level 4. In the brief moment of the flash, Lilith was sent flying out of the cave. If one looked closely, they could see a very stylish large footprint on her clothes.
Soon after, Su Ruo was also kicked out, though not as badly as Lilith. She crossed her arms in front of her chest to block the beast’s kick. It was fortunate the beast was only Level 4; otherwise, Su Ruo’s current strength might not have withstood it.
Thanks to her strong physique, Lilith wasn’t seriously hurt from the kick. She climbed back up, grumbling—she had never encountered such a sneaky creature. It controlled you with flashes, then gave you a stylish kick.
Though physically fine, Lilith still felt pain from the kick. Su Ruo’s arms were a bit numb from the impact. It seemed the beast had kicked Lilith more lightly since she was completely off guard.
Bai Lili stared thoughtfully at the cave. That light was truly dazzling—it could disorient someone in an instant. Plus, the beast was very fast.
While Bai Lili was still thinking of a strategy, several large rocks flew out of the cave. They stopped a meter away from Bai Lili—Qing Hanyin had controlled them.
The beast came out of the cave and retreated at incredible speed while opening its luminous membrane. Bai Lili and the others immediately covered their eyes, but instead of a bright flash, they were met with the beast’s flying kick. This time, Lilith was prepared.
Still, she was knocked back a few steps. Lilith couldn’t help complaining,
“What kind of monster is this? Flashes, feints—so annoying!”
Although Lilith could hunt this beast alone, it would still be an irritating experience. The beast was agile, circling around Bai Lili and the others while occasionally kicking rocks at them.
Bai Lili opened her eyes, but flashes of light left her dazed. The beast was running around them, flashing nonstop. Worse, this light carried a mental attack—anyone hit would briefly lose focus.
Thus, the 360-degree omnidirectional flashing successfully locked down the four of them for a short time. After a while, the beast couldn’t produce any more light, so it turned tail and ran.
By the time Bai Lili recovered, the beast was already out of sight. She stomped her foot, venting her anger,
“What the hell is this thing? Even a flashbulb wouldn’t flash that much! And it’s got a mental attack—so disgusting!”
Su Ruo nodded beside her, agreeing. This beast would run if it couldn’t win, had a built-in control skill, flashed you, kicked you, then vanished.
Lilith chimed in,
“Right, right! This beast is truly disgusting.”
Qing Hanyin also nodded. Among its peers, this beast might not be the strongest, but it was definitely one of the most annoying.
Bai Lili looked around but had no idea where the beast had gone. Lilith offered,
“Lili, I think I can find it. I got some of my blood on it. I can track it through that.”
Bai Lili had no better idea, so she agreed,
“Then, Lilith, lead the way.”
Lilith spread her bat wings and flew up to roughly determine the direction the beast had fled, then landed beside Bai Lili. She could fly, but Bai Lili couldn’t, so she preferred staying close.
Bai Lili, Su Ruo, and Qing Hanyin followed Lilith to a place where the ground was covered in shiny shells. Lilith sensed trouble—she knew those shells reflected light with the same effect as the beast’s flashes.
Su Ruo and Qing Hanyin jumped back. Su Ruo used her tail to sweep Bai Lili along with her. Lilith detected the beast’s aura.
Through sensing her own blood, she located it. But before she could react, a blinding light hit her, followed by the shell-covered ground emitting intense light, disorienting her.
Then she sensed danger and instinctively crossed her arms in front of her. The beast’s tail swipe sent her flying backward.
Bai Lili guessed that damaging the beast’s antennae would be the solution. Today, she had been thoroughly annoyed by this creature.
The beast seemed to sense something and flashed toward Bai Lili, successfully locking her down again. After several cycles, Bai Lili finally couldn’t take it anymore.
She put on her mask, feeling a surge of power. Su Ruo noticed the sudden change in Bai Lili’s aura and no longer held her back with her tail. Bai Lili was truly angry—being flashed so many times was unbearable.
The beast would hit, run, harass—no fatal attacks, but utterly infuriating.
Bai Lili sprinted toward the beast. It leaped back and flashed her again. Taking advantage of the moment, Lilith rushed in from the side and kicked the beast into the wall.
Lilith had finally gotten revenge for that earlier kick. By the time Bai Lili recovered, she saw the beast just falling off the wall. She gave it another kick. Today, her eyes had truly suffered, being flashed so many times.
Bai Lili felt unsatisfied. She grabbed the beast’s head and slammed it against the wall twice, then calmed down a bit.
Lilith, Su Ruo, and Qing Hanyin gathered around her, looking at the beast. Bai Lili put it down. It seemed to still be moving. In just a moment, the beast actually assumed a begging posture.
Well, Level 4 beasts surely knew what was good for them—otherwise, it wouldn’t have been so sneaky, flashing and running.
