With the matter of the Glowing Dragon settled, Bai Lili gained a relatively relaxed and free period of time.
Now, the Glowing Dragon was temporarily placed in the courtyard of her home. The school couldn’t accommodate such a massive creature, and it also loved being around people.
Who knows—it might even blow up one day, or cause strange flashes in the woods at midnight. She had realized that this Glowing Dragon was practically a born paparazzo and war correspondent.
Ever since Bai Lili gave it that camera, and it discovered it could record scenes, it couldn’t put it down. In just one day, it had captured most of the fun little stories in the mansion.
When Bai Lili was about to head back to school, she took a look at what the Glowing Dragon had filmed. All sorts of things: scenes from the mansion, and some that were hard to comment on.
‘If I bring this Glowing Dragon to school, it’ll probably never stop clicking that camera,’ Bai Lili thought. After all, she knew there were plenty of strange people and odd events on campus—she didn’t pay much attention, but the rumors spread far and wide.
By the time Bai Lili returned to her academy, she was thinking, ‘I hope that Glowing Dragon behaves itself at home.’
Lilith somehow found out that Bai Lili had arrived at the academy. She grabbed Bai Lili from behind and hugged her. Bai Lili struggled to push Lilith away, patted her slightly rumpled clothes, and looked at Lilith with confusion as she spoke.
“Lilith, how did you know I was back?”
Lilith raised her right index finger to her lips, playfully closed one eye, and said in a cheerful tone.
“That’s a secret.”
Lilith didn’t want Bai Lili to know the meaning of their contract just yet.
Bai Lili thought for a moment. She had no classes today—actually, she rarely had many classes anyway. Even though she was in the healing department, she had no intention of becoming a support healer.
She was now a damage dealer, a high-class offensive healer. Thinking this, Bai Lili puffed out her chest proudly. Lilith, watching beside her, saw Bai Lili looking happy and sticking out her moderately-sized chest.
Lilith would be lying if she said she wasn’t envious. Glancing at her own barren land, she could see her feet at a glance—flat enough to be an airport runway.
‘We’re both lolis, so how can the difference be this big?’ Lilith thought. Bai Lili noticed Lilith staring at her little peaks, then at her own basin, and knew exactly what Lilith was thinking. She walked over to Lilith with a smug expression, patted Lilith’s shoulder, and spoke with a tone mixed with sympathy but mostly amusement.
“Don’t worry, Lilith. You’ll get some eventually.”
Lilith looked at Bai Lili’s face and knew Bai Lili felt sorry for her, but she couldn’t deny it. The facts were right there in her face. Lilith comforted herself internally: ‘At least I can fondle Bai Lili’s buns later.’ Thinking this made her feel a lot better.
Since Lilith also had no classes today, she decided to tag along with Bai Lili. Lilith didn’t know why, but lately, strange images kept flashing before her eyes. They always appeared when she was near Bai Lili, but she didn’t pay them much mind, chalking it up to the side effects of her inherited memories.
Bai Lili planned to go shopping today. Staying cooped up on campus all the time wasn’t ideal, but she couldn’t carry too many things alone. So she decided to ask Lilith to join her. Pretending to be casual, she said.
“Lilith, are you free today?”
Hearing this, based on her recent studies in Garagamu communication, Lilith guessed that Lili was about to invite her out. Lilith smiled, hands behind her back, and replied.
“I don’t have any class today, so I’m free. Are you asking me out on a date, Lili?”
Bai Lili’s face flushed slightly at Lilith’s words. She muttered.
“I was going to invite you shopping. If you don’t want to come, fine.”
Lilith quickly shook her head, a youthful smile on her face, and spoke with an apologetic tone.
“Lili, I didn’t say no. Please take me with you.”
Bai Lili crossed her arms, turned her head to the side, and glanced at Lilith out of the corner of her eye. The sunlight fell on Lilith’s face, complementing her smile, making it hard to believe she was a blood clan afraid of sunlight.
Seeing Lilith’s sincerity, Bai Lili didn’t want to make things awkward for her. With a hint of happiness in her voice, she said.
“Since you’re coming, then come with me.”
Lilith was secretly delighted that she managed to go shopping with Bai Lili, but she kept up her usual cheerful and sunny persona. A gentle breeze blew, lifting Lilith’s pink hair, which softened in the sunlight.
Bai Lili turned her head and glanced at Lilith. Whether it was an illusion or not, some images seemed to flash before Bai Lili’s eyes. For a brief moment, Bai Lili felt as if she had known Lilith a long, long time ago.
Bai Lili shook her head, trying to recall those images, but she couldn’t remember a single one. In the end, she dismissed it as her imagination.
Then, Bai Lili took Lilith’s hand and hailed a cab, heading for the bustling city center. Skyscrapers lined the streets. She vaguely remembered coming here with Su Ruo before, but she couldn’t recall the details—only that she had learned Foxfire.
Lilith looked around curiously, taking in her surroundings. She had never been to this part of the city before. After all, she was adopted. Her adoptive parents had died in an accident, and all their assets had been transferred to her.
To cut expenses, she rarely bought new clothes for herself, especially since she hadn’t grown in a long time. She sighed inwardly. ‘This really is the most prosperous area in the city center.’
Tall buildings stood everywhere, each shop was clean and tidy, and there was a fountain in the middle for people to rest.
Seeing Lilith’s curious expression, Bai Lili knew she probably hadn’t been to the city center much. Thinking about it, Bai Lili realized she had rarely seen Lilith in different clothes. Since they were already here, she decided to buy some for her as well.
Bai Lili thought carefully. Qing Hanyin also didn’t have many clothes. Making it this far from the slums was already impressive. She might as well buy some for her too, Bai Lili thought.
As for Su Ruo, she was out of Bai Lili’s consideration. Su Ruo’s family was as wealthy as Bai Lili’s—money was no object. Little did Su Ruo know, she had lost today’s competition simply because she was too rich.
Bai Lili dragged Lilith into a clothing store and started picking out outfits for her. Bai Lili’s wardrobe was already bursting, and she didn’t want to be a dress-up doll. Today, she would be the one dressing someone else.
Bai Lili browsed through the store and spotted a black Lolita-style dress. She thought it would suit Lilith perfectly. She took it off the rack and held it up against Lilith.
It didn’t fit properly. Lilith watched Bai Lili, initially thinking Bai Lili was picking it for herself. But when Bai Lili gestured it against Lilith’s body, Lilith realized it was actually for her. She felt a little touched.
Bai Lili went to find a salesperson to check if they had the right size for Lilith. She said to the salesperson.
“Excuse me, do you have this dress in her size?”
With that, Bai Lili handed the black Lolita dress to the salesperson and pushed Lilith forward. The salesperson naturally recognized Bai Lili—half the shops in the city center belonged to her family.
Looking at Bai Lili, the salesperson felt healed no matter how many times she saw her: a golden-haired fox-girl loli. Taking the dress from Bai Lili, the salesperson glanced at Lilith’s figure. She was about the same size as Bai Lili, but with a completely flat chest.
The salesperson found the right size for Lilith. Bai Lili told her to give the dress to Lilith and have her try it on. Bai Lili pushed Lilith, who was now holding the dress, and said.
“Go try it on. I want to see how you look in it.”
Lilith felt as if Bai Lili’s words had some kind of magic. She nodded and let herself be pushed into the fitting room.
Staring at the dress in her hands, Lilith could tell from the fabric that it was no ordinary garment. A warmth spread through her heart. This was the first time someone had genuinely cared for her without expecting anything in return.
After a short wait, Lilith emerged from the fitting room wearing the dress.
She had tied her pink hair into twin tails. The black Lolita dress fit her perfectly, and with her ruby-like eyes, the blood clan aura hit instantly.
Bai Lili stepped closer, examined her from all angles, and gave a sincere compliment.
“Lilith, this dress really suits you.”
Lilith blushed at the praise and said shyly.
“I really like it, Lili.”
Hearing that Lilith liked the dress, Bai Lili was relieved. She told the salesperson to pack it up. Over the next while, Bai Lili picked out many more clothes for Lilith.
Lilith was turned into a dress-up doll, changing in and out of various outfits. Bai Lili initially wanted to buy everything, but Lilith stopped her and said.
“Lili, that’s enough. I’ll just pick a few. I don’t need this many.”
Lilith kept Bai Lili’s kindness in her heart, vowing to repay her if she ever had the chance.
Lilith enjoyed this warm feeling. Seeing Lilith lost in thought, Bai Lili waved her little hand in front of Lilith’s face and said.
“Let’s go. It’s noon already. Let’s grab a meal at a nearby restaurant, and then we’ll head back.”
Lilith nodded and followed Bai Lili. After they ate, Bai Lili thought about buying some gifts for the others as well. After a shopping spree, Lilith was carrying several bags full of items.
Lilith was all smiles, not feeling tired at all. After all, if a fourth-rank ability user got tired from carrying a few bags, that would be pretty pathetic.
