Those red lights were extremely fast, carrying a piercing sound of breaking air, like a swarm of angry fire-red wasps, charging straight at their flying dragon formation.
Swoosh swoosh swoosh swoosh—!
The sound of breaking air became a continuous roar, making one’s scalp tingle.
“What the hell?!” Zeweier was startled and screamed like a stuck pig.
Stab!
A sound of a blade piercing flesh rang out.
Zeweier watched helplessly as the left huge fleshy wing of the flying dragon ridden by Earl Lai’en was directly pierced through by a Rocket Arrow.
The Armor-Piercing Rune on the arrowhead instantly tore through the flying dragon’s tough membrane, and then the Fire-Igniting Rune was triggered.
A dark red flame burst out with a bang on the dragon’s wing, instantly igniting the surrounding flesh.
Roar—!
That flying dragon let out an extremely miserable cry, its massive body shuddering violently in midair, completely losing balance. It desperately flapped its remaining wing, but it was futile. Its entire body tilted to the left and plummeted straight down.
This was just the beginning. A rain of several hundred Rocket Arrows mercilessly slammed into the flying dragon formation. The sky instantly fell into chaos.
Dozens of two-legged pet flying dragons were hit one after another. Some dragons were lucky, only getting their tails or claws pierced, writhing in pain in the air. Others were unlucky: a Rocket Arrow went straight from below, piercing through their thick throat.
Bright red dragon blood sprayed out like a fountain, scattering in the air, creating a stinking rain of blood. Still other dragons had their bellies torn apart by several Rocket Arrows at once, with intestines and organs spilling out in a gruesome scene.
The huge supply boxes originally hanging under the dragons’ bellies, tied with thick hemp ropes, had their ropes burned through by the flames on the arrows.
Crash—!
Dozens of large boxes scattered in midair, their lids blown off. Inside were packed full of gold coins, gorgeous silk fabrics, and bags of fine rations, falling like hail, smashing crackle into the forest below.
Zeweier watched the falling gold coins, his facial features twisted with heartache. But now was not the time to worry about money. He was utterly terrified, his mind blank, all the fat on his body trembling uncontrollably.
The flying dragon Zeweier was riding was the largest, flying in the very center of the formation. When the first wave of arrows shot up from below, most were blocked by the outer dragons. But one stray Rocket Arrow still grazed the butt of this dragon, carving a bloody gash in its thick hide.
Roar!
This huge two-legged pet dragon went mad with pain, tumbling violently in midair, twisting its body frantically. Zeweier was already fat and unsteady, and this centrifugal force threw him off the specially made wide saddle.
Aaaaah!
Zeweier let out a scream of utter misery, both hands desperately clutching the dragon’s rough-scaled neck, his fat legs clamping tight to the dragon’s back. In extreme terror, Zeweier felt his lower body loosen, and a stream of warm liquid flowed down his thighs. He had peed his pants in fright, a smell of urine mixed with the dragon’s stench spreading around.
“Assassins! Protect His Highness! Quickly protect His Highness!”
The surviving Royal Knights around finally reacted to this sudden strike. They were well-trained elites, immediately shouting and organizing defenses. One guard closest to Zeweier grabbed the reins with one hand and drew his longsword with the other, just about to chant a spell to release a defense magic.
At that moment, another wave of arrows shot up from the forest below.
Stab!
A fast Rocket Arrow entered from under that guard’s chin, piercing straight through his entire head. The guard didn’t even have time to grunt, his eyes wide open, his body falling stiffly off the dragon’s back, crashing toward the Abyss.
“They’re over there!”
A few sharper guards saw that the dragons were too big a target, so they let go of the reins and jumped off the falling dragons. In midair, they quickly activated Wind Magic, forming a current of air around them to briefly float. They drew their swords, looking down into the forest to locate the enemy, ready to counterattack.
But the Night Demon Society wouldn’t give them the chance.
“Want to be birds? Shoot them down for me!”
Baldie sneered below.
Dozens of Rocket Arrows instantly focused on those floating guards. In midair, with no foothold, the movement speed of Wind Magic couldn’t dodge such dense arrows.
Ah—!
Several screams rang out at the same time. Those guards were instantly turned into pincushions, their magical airflow disrupted, crashing heavily into the tree crowns below.
Zeweier clung to the dragon’s neck, eyes tightly shut, not daring to look down.
“Help! Come protect me! You useless wastes! Block them!”
Zeweier’s voice was hoarse, carrying a sobbing tone.
Not far away, Earl Lai’en’s flying dragon completely lost control, tumbling into the forest. Lai’en’s pitiful strength couldn’t hold the reins; he was flung into the air, flailing as he fell.
“Save me, Your Highness—!” Lai’en’s scream stretched long in the wind, finally landing with a thump into the dense forest, never to move again.
Watching the dragons drop one after another, his subordinates dead or wounded, Zeweier’s heart nearly jumped out of his throat. Just as he thought he would die here too, four Royal Knights in advanced armor pulled hard on the reins, driving their startled dragons to squeeze next to Zeweier.
These four were the strongest in the guard. They positioned themselves at four directions around Zeweier’s dragon, shielding him in the center.
“Hold tight, Your Highness!” a knight shouted.
The four released one hand simultaneously, raising their staffs or longswords, quickly chanting high-level spells. Vast magical power surged from their bodies.
In the blink of an eye, a translucent green Wind Magic Barrier took shape in midair.
This barrier was like an enormous inverted bowl, covering Zeweier and the several dragons inside. If you looked closely, the green barrier wasn’t smooth; it was covered in countless tiny, high-speed rotating wind grids.
Clang clang clang!
A third wave of Rocket Arrows shot up from below, hitting the green wind barrier.
The arrows engraved with Armor-Piercing Runes had their arrowheads just pierce the barrier, but were immediately caught by those high-speed rotating grids, then snapped off or deflected by the strong air currents.
Flames burst outside the barrier but couldn’t burn through.
Zeweier opened his eyes, seeing this green protective shield blocking the attack, and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
