Zeweier was panting heavily, his entire body drenched in cold sweat.
“Well done! Hold on! When we return, I, the Prince, will reward you handsomely!” Zeweier shouted, his voice still trembling a bit.
But one knight’s face was extremely grim.
“Your Highness, the enemy’s firepower is too strong! The bows they’re using are strange—their armor-piercing ability is incredible. Only a Grand Rune Master could carve such enchantments.”
This knight was sweating profusely, the hand gripping his sword trembling slightly. “And there are at least three to five hundred of them. They’re almost as well-equipped as the royal family’s magical bow regiment.”
“The four of us are burning through mana too fast. This barrier won’t hold much longer!”
Hearing this, the relief Zeweier had just felt vanished instantly. He looked outside through the green barrier.
The original formation of several dozen massive Flying Dragons was now reduced to a lonely five or six struggling to stay aloft. Not a single crate of gold, silver, or supplies remained—they had all fallen into the forest below.
Zeweier’s heart bled.
This was everything he had, emptied from the treasuries of several territories, meant to win the goddess’s favor!
Now it was all gone!
Even if he reached his destination, his bargaining chips were drastically reduced!
And right now, forget about reaching the destination—whether he could even retreat was a massive problem!
After extreme fear, uncontrollable rage and resentment surged into his heart.
‘Who the hell did this?!’ he cursed inwardly. ‘Were they assassins sent by that madman Atticus? Or mercenaries secretly hired by that snake George? Or maybe those damned border peasants have revolted?!’
Whichever it was, Zeweier swore that if he survived to return, he would burn this forest to ashes. He would skin and gut every last person involved—men, women, old, young—all of them!
CRACK!
At that moment, a crisp sound of breaking came from the green Wind Barrier.
A thin crack appeared on the barrier directly in front of Zeweier.
“The barrier is cracking! Do something!” Zeweier pointed at the crack and shrieked, his voice as sharp as a cat with its tail stepped on.
One knight gritted his teeth, desperately squeezing out his internal mana to repair the crack, and roared, “Your Highness! We can’t stay here as sitting ducks! We must leave this airspace immediately!”
Zeweier finally snapped back to reality.
Right. He couldn’t just wait to die here.
If they could fly out of this forest, those bastards shooting from below wouldn’t be able to catch up.
But the Flying Dragon he was riding had taken an arrow in the rump and was spinning in place from the pain, completely unresponsive.
The knight in front tried to pull the reins, but the dragon was too strong; he couldn’t budge it.
Zeweier panicked. He knew this was the time to fight for his life. All his usual pampered arrogance was thrown away.
His fat body lunged forward, and he snatched the thick reins from the knight’s hands.
“Fly that way!”
Zeweier erupted with surprising strength, gripping the reins with both hands and yanking them to the right with all his might.
The dragon’s neck was pulled taut. It let out a pained shriek, and its massive body tilted sharply in midair.
It had been flying toward Tattle Town, but Zeweier’s pull sent it off course, heading toward a stretch of endless, desolate mountains to the right.
“Your Highness! We’re off course!” a knight exclaimed in alarm.
“Can’t worry about that now! Run first!” Zeweier bellowed, not loosening his grip on the reins.
The four Royal Knights had no choice. They desperately maintained the faltering green Wind Barrier while driving their own Flying Dragons to follow Zeweier in their escape.
Below, in the forest.
“Boss, they’re getting away! What do we do?”
“Brothers, stop. That man is clearly the Second Prince. If we actually kill him, the kingdom will make a big move. It won’t be good for us.”
Daoba Guangtou laughed heartily. “We don’t do total annihilation. Besides, look at that cowardly look of his—ha ha, what a relief!”
“Let’s go, brothers. Gather all the loot that fell, then head back for a celebration!”
Daoba Guangtou waved his hand. Everyone put away their bows and arrows and jumped down from the tree branches.
But no one noticed the hint of loneliness in Daoba Guangtou’s eyes.
If he could, he would have personally killed every last one of those nobles, torn them limb from limb, and left no survivors.
But for the sake of his brothers’ future, he had to make a decision that considered the bigger picture.
Not killing Zeweier would only bring Zeweier’s personal revenge.
But if they killed Zeweier, the royal nobles would surely use that as an excuse, fighting for political leverage and credit, and send troops to hunt them down.
Then it wouldn’t just be Zeweier’s personal forces—it would be the combined might of the entire kingdom’s nobles and royalty.
At least for now, they couldn’t push the other side into an irreconcilable conflict with the Night Demon Society, forcing them to annihilate the whole organization.
…
Tattle Town.
The Blessing Ceremony was over.
Primrose and the others returned to the first-floor hall of the Golden Rose Inn.
They were preparing to depart.
Yuna was helping Lin Naiyue sort out her armor and weapons.
The Moon Armor and the Moon Sword.
The armor was a deep, dark purple-black, with no flashy decorations on its surface—just a few clean, flowing silver lines outlining its contours.
The Moon Sword hung at Lin Naiyue’s waist. Its scabbard was also purple-black, and the hilt was set with a round gem that emitted a faint purple glow.
Primrose glanced at it. Compared to her mom’s pink-toned, lolita-like appearance…
How to put it.
It was a big contrast.
It felt like a cute little person squeezed inside a Demon King’s armor.
But the Smoky Purple Grade was just a transitional piece anyway. Once they reached the Miracle Snowfield and retrieved the Hero’s exclusive Holy Sword and armor, this set could be thrown straight into the backpack to collect dust.
“Mom.” Primrose walked over to Lin Naiyue and helped adjust the positioning of her shoulder guard. “This time at the Miracle Snowfield, your main job is to stand next to me. If we really run into danger you can’t handle, use the Earthly Bedrock or Instant Teleportation. Leave the rest to me.”
Even though she probably wouldn’t encounter a situation that required using an immunity skill, she still had to give the instruction.
Lin Naiyue looked at her daughter’s serious profile, and a warmth surged in her heart.
She gripped the sword hilt at her waist and replied earnestly, “Okay. Mom will listen to you. Mom will also protect Primrose well. Mom will do anything!”
Mom Triple Combo!
“Don’t worry about me. A goddess cannot be chosen. If anyone is in danger, I won’t be.”
Primrose felt a little uncomfortable hearing her mom say that.
