Chapter 7: Bad Thoughts

When she woke up the next morning, Evalyn found herself already dressed.

Faon had already tidied up the room they had made a mess of yesterday.

She had slept well last night and hadn’t even felt her husband moving around.

Perhaps it was because she had been so satisfied after venting the previous night, or perhaps it was because she had dispelled some of her self-doubt.

In any case, Evalyn had slept very comfortably, without the strange dreams she used to have.

Her body felt a bit fatigued, but to Evalyn, this was proof of a harmonious married life.

Her only regret was that she had woken up too late.

She hadn’t had time to admire her husband’s sleeping face or linger in bed with him for a while.

However, according to their usual habits, Faon should be preparing breakfast at this time.

Therefore, Evalyn planned to sneak up behind him and give him a hug to surprise her husband.

After all, her first commission was starting this afternoon, and Evalyn wanted to seize the chance to spend more time with him.

Just as she was about to act, the bedroom door was pushed open.

Faon walked in, holding a cup of hot water.

“Sister Evalyn, you’re awake? How did you sleep last night?”

For some reason, Evalyn felt her husband looked a little haggard, though not by much.

As his childhood friend and wife, she decided to ask.

“Good morning, Hubby. I slept quite well because of you. It’s just… you look a bit sleep-deprived?”

Hearing Evalyn’s concerned inquiry, Faon showed no signs of anything unusual.

He simply sat by the bed and handed her the cup.

“Because you were quite rowdy last night, Sister Evalyn, I decided to do some light cleaning.”

“What do you mean ‘rowdy’…” Evalyn’s face flushed slightly as she gave a soft huff.

She then drank the water in one go and set the cup aside.

Her expression turned serious.

“You could have waited until today to do that. You must have been very tired last night too, right?”

“Just consider it a bit of my OCD, Sister Evalyn. I didn’t want to see you sleeping in such a messy bed.”

Faon’s gentle smile prevented Evalyn from detecting anything wrong.

In reality, Faon had chosen to clean the room last night because of the urges he occasionally couldn’t suppress.

He couldn’t rely on magic to suppress himself forever, so he had found another way to distract himself.

As for the clothes, he had put them on her this morning, fearing she might catch a cold.

He also didn’t want to bother his sleeping wife further just because of his own desires.

“Then leave it for me to clean tomorrow. It doesn’t matter to me since I can stay home during the day, but you have to go out to work. Poor sleep won’t do.”

Evalyn hugged Faon from behind and spoke very seriously.

Feeling his wife’s warmth and softness, the frustrations Faon felt in the middle of the night were almost entirely swept away.

He joked, “Sister Evalyn, you really do spoil me.”

“Hmph… who is spoiling whom is still up for debate. Besides, I am a bit older than you.”

“Alright, alright. But I’ll handle it today.”

Faon turned his head.

“Breakfast is ready, though it’s just the leftovers from yesterday’s dinner.”

“It’s fine! It’s just bread and stuff anyway. Besides, this was supposed to be a wife’s responsibility. You should be happy for me instead,” Evalyn said with a giggle.

“It’s also what I should do,” Faon responded.

“That’s different! Anyway, wait for me to get dressed, and then let’s go eat.”

“Okay.”

Once Evalyn was fully dressed, the two of them went to the dining table together.

The table was located in the kitchen, which was the area Faon had put the most effort into.

Almost all the kitchenware had been crafted according to his designs.

The reason was simple: he wanted his wife to save some effort in this era.

At the table, watching his wife eat slowly and carefully, Faon suddenly remembered something.

“Right, Sister Evalyn, I’ve already heated the bathwater. You can go soak for a bit after breakfast. After all, you sweated so much last night. Don’t catch a cold.”

“Huh? You heated it this morning? I told you not to work so hard. Depend on your wife a little more!” Evalyn puffed out her cheeks like an angry kitten.

“It was no trouble. That amount of mana is nothing to me. If I heat it… you won’t have to use as much mana, Sister Evalyn. Besides, Miss Night Lei and Night Night are coming over this afternoon. If you don’t wash now, you won’t have time later.”

At the mention of this, the atmosphere between them turned slightly heavy, but Evalyn quickly shifted the topic.

The two of them began chatting and laughing again.

And so, breakfast ended. Next, Faon had to go to work.

As per custom, Evalyn saw her husband off at the door.

“Work hard! But if it gets too tiring, you can always choose to quit.”

Evalyn was actually very clingy.

Although she hadn’t reached a pathological level, she was close.

It was only because she loved Faon so much and supported him that she suppressed those feelings for now.

Furthermore, if she were just normally clingy, she wouldn’t be collecting every little detail about her husband.

“I’m heading out then.”

Faon nodded.

But as he was about to leave, Evalyn pulled him back.

She leaned close to his ear, her face tinged with a slight blush, and whispered, “Hubby, you remember the measurements from yesterday, right?”

“…” Faon clearly remembered what had happened.

“Of course I remember… why? Do you want to experience it again, Sister Evalyn?”

“Hehe, let’s wait until tomorrow. I don’t know how late we’ll be playing today. Remember to come back early.”

After saying that, Evalyn gave Faon a kiss on the cheek.

Though Faon found his wife’s words a bit odd, he didn’t say anything and simply nodded.

“Fine, I’ll be back early.”

With that, Faon pushed open the door and walked out.

Now, Evalyn was the only one left at home.

She didn’t let Faon’s efforts go to waste.

She went to the bathroom, took a bath, and changed her clothes.

As for lunch, her husband sometimes ate with the Church and sometimes came home.

However, since he hadn’t mentioned it today, he likely wouldn’t be back.

It was at this moment that the cold voice of the Receptionist rang out again.

“Miss Evalyn, do you really believe that what you did yesterday was enough to satisfy Master Faon?”

“Hmm? What do you mean by that?”

Evalyn was taken aback.

“Exactly what I said. Does Miss Evalyn truly believe that is enough to satisfy Master Faon?”

“Of course I don’t think so! It was just a little short, after all. As long as I’m in better condition next time, I’ll have him right where I want him,” Evalyn said proudly.

Whether it was an illusion or not, Evalyn thought she heard the Receptionist give a helpless sigh.

“As long as Miss Evalyn thinks so. The Guild will never discourage anyone’s confidence.”

“I feel like you’re looking down on me.” Immediately after saying this, Evalyn realized something and her face turned bright red. “Yesterday… you weren’t watching the whole time, were you?”

“No. The Guild respects the privacy of every Matchmaker. I am simply reminding Miss Evalyn to pay constant attention to Master Faon’s condition while completing the commission. If, by some accident, Master Faon’s favorability toward the Commission Target becomes higher than his favorability toward you, it could very likely lead to you losing your status as a Matchmaker.”

Evalyn thought about it carefully.

“That’s impossible… my husband wouldn’t be like that. Even if he’s with another woman… he would never abandon me. I feel like that sentence is a bit strange…”

After all, she had only chosen to become a Matchmaker for the sake of their happiness.

Other women were merely tools.

Fortunately, Evalyn stopped thinking about it.

“Right, I want to know if there is any difference between the information on the Commission Target I see now and what I saw at the Guild?”

Evalyn spent the rest of the time painting and making lunch to pass the hours.

Painting was her only hobby, though she had never studied it systematically.

She just painted whatever she liked.

When Faon wasn’t home, she usually chose to paint him.

Although she had a Magic Camera now, the feeling of painting Faon stroke by stroke fascinated her.

In the afternoon, she looked at the canvas in front of her, unsure of what to paint.

Lately, she had been secretly taking photos of all of Faon’s expressions.

At that moment, a vision flashed through her mind—a scene of Faon and Sister Night Lei in intimate contact.

It hadn’t happened yet; it was just her imagination.

But she immediately pushed the thought to the back of her mind.

Evalyn felt conflicted.

‘What on earth am I thinking?!’

‘How could I even think such things?’

Although she always wanted to see different sides of her husband, it didn’t mean she wanted to see him with other women, did it?!

Just then, there was a knock at the door.

Evalyn skillfully swapped the blank paper on her easel for an unfinished landscape painting.

Then, she went to open the door.

Opening the door, she found Night Night, whose face bore a faint blush.

Evalyn smiled in a friendly manner.

“Why have you come over now?”

“Good… good afternoon, Miss Evalyn… I came early to help you.”

Night Night’s tone carried a hint of shyness.

Watching the shy Night Night, an idea that would benefit the completion of the commission surfaced in Evalyn’s mind.
