Evalyn, who had just finished seeing off the Night sisters, had no idea how they reacted after returning home.
At this moment, she was snuggling on the sofa with her husband, Faon, as they read the letter he had brought over that afternoon.
The letter was from her younger sister, Ailin.
It contained two sheets of stationery: one for her and one for her husband, Faon.
However, the sheet addressed to Faon contained only a few short sentences.
Aside from simple greetings, the only useful line seemed to be a request for Faon to pick her up at the entrance of their hometown in a few days.
In contrast, the letter to her older sister was densely packed with text, mostly consisting of updates on her recent life and how much she missed her.
After finishing it, Evalyn frowned.
“That little girl, Ailin, is showing too much favoritism, isn’t she? She used to be so clingy with you when she was little, husband. Besides, the letter she sent last month didn’t mention anything about a long break. Seriously, she waits until she’s coming back in a few days to tell us.”
Faon smiled and comforted her.
“Maybe she’s just older now and wants to keep a respectful distance? Besides, you clearly miss her, sister Evalyn. Weren’t you worried these past few days because you hadn’t received a letter? Now that you’ve got it, you’re scolding her from a distance.”
Evalyn’s tone was slightly dissatisfied.
“Worrying about her is one thing, but you’re her childhood friend and her current family, husband. There isn’t even that much of an age gap. After all this time, she only sends a few short sentences, and the only useful part is a direct command for you to pick her up. Two months ago, she didn’t even write a single line, even though her brother-in-law is the one sending her allowance.”
Seeing his wife continue her rant, Faon didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
“Alright, alright. Ailin isn’t that little tagalong who used to follow us everywhere anymore. I think it’s good; she has her own thoughts. Besides, it takes time for friends back home to forward the mail.”
“Hmph… No matter how many thoughts she has, she should still respect her brother-in-law.
You spoil her too much, husband.” Evalyn sat up and curled her lip.
Ailin had clearly liked Faon a lot when she was a child, but as she grew up, she became less and one could say she was less respectful.
The only saving grace was that she didn’t exactly hate Faon, but she didn’t seem to like him much either.
“How is that spoiling her… Ailin was the one who stayed by your side during the war. She probably feels that as a childhood friend, I wasn’t there for you, so she thinks I’m not good enough. Or maybe she’s just a bit jealous that I stole her sister away?”
Faon thought about it carefully and gave his answer with a smile.
“How could you be not good enough! Even she doesn’t have the right to say that about the Hero Who Saved the World.”
Evalyn huffed softly, then said earnestly, “In any case, I want Ailin to get along with you. After all, we’ll be living together in the future… It would be great if that child were as polite and respectful to you as Night Night is.”
Seeing his wife’s serious expression, a flash of Night Night clutching his hand crossed Faon’s mind.
It vanished quickly, however, and he smiled as he took Evalyn’s hand.
“I’m not really some Hero Who Saved the World. Our relationship isn’t bad right now, and she did send her regards this time. Some siblings might not say a single word to their sister’s spouse for half their lives.”
But then, Faon’s tone turned concerned.
“However… if Ailin is coming back in a few days, we should probably head back. The Magic Academy’s break isn’t short; it’ll probably be around two months.”
Ailin had been sent to the Magic Academy only a few days after their wedding.
She had received an invitation from them even before then, but it had been delayed by their marriage.
Most importantly… Ailin had no idea they had moved.
When she left, Faon hadn’t decided to move here yet.
They had only agreed to send a letter every month, and Faon would forward her allowance along with the letters from this side.
Consequently, Evalyn fell silent regarding Faon’s concern.
She had only just completed one relatively simple commission.
If they suddenly went home now, wouldn’t she have let the Night sisters touch her husband for nothing?
What if there were no commission targets that could be generated back at their old home?
The reason they hadn’t told Ailin about the move was simple.
First, it was a matter of timing.
After she left for school, Evalyn’s condition began to worsen.
Her husband, Faon, had made a snap decision to move to this quiet village.
There had been no time to explain, so he simply asked an old friend at the Adventurers Guild there to forward the letters on time.
Moving wasn’t just for the peace and quiet of the border for recovery; more importantly, a certain material only appeared in this specific location.
This was why Faon sounded worried.
What if that material appeared while they were away?
Second, Evalyn didn’t want her sister to return halfway.
After all, she had just started school and would have to return before even getting used to the environment.
Furthermore, the journey back was not only long but also exhausting.
More importantly, she was afraid her sister would worry, especially since she had Faon by her side.
Evalyn felt very conflicted about all of this.
She had heard her husband talk before about parents who hid news of a serious illness because they were afraid of ruining their child’s education or career, and she had found it strange.
But when it actually happened to her, she chose to do the exact same thing as those people.
“Then… how about we have Ailin come here? After all, you’d have to find a new job if we go back, husband.”
Evalyn blinked.
Faon thought for a moment and decided it was feasible.
He nodded and said, “The job doesn’t really matter, but we do have reasons to stay here. The issue with your body hasn’t been resolved yet, sister Evalyn.”
Hearing the word “we” made Evalyn feel a bit guilty, but she didn’t show it.
“It’s fine, right? We can just explain it clearly when the time comes. Couldn’t this be considered a little surprise for Ailin?”
“What kind of surprise is that? If I were Ailin, I’d definitely be angry when I got back.”
Faon sighed.
“It’s fine, it’s fine. I’m her older sister. Ailin will definitely understand her sister, right?”
Evalyn blinked.
“Then why don’t you just pick Ailin up and bring her straight here, husband?”
“The distance isn’t short. I still think it would be better if we both went back and came here together, but I’m afraid your body is too weak to handle the journey.”
Faon hesitated.
“If it doesn’t work out, I can just bring her here directly.”
“There are still a few days… We can decide then. I’m going to take a bath first.”
As Evalyn said this, her heart felt a bit bitter.
After all, according to her own previous claims, her body was so weak that she couldn’t even walk a few kilometers.
And back then, she had only said that so the Difficult Commission would proceed smoothly.
“Huh? Didn’t you just wash up this morning? Why are you bathing again at night?”
Faon asked, feeling a bit odd.
“I got a bit sweaty from cooking. There’s still half the water you boiled this morning left; it’s more than enough. It would be a waste not to use it.”
Evalyn smiled, but in reality, she just wanted to enter the Guild to check the status changes of the targets and the rewards.
She was quite interested in the one-time [Skill] among the rewards.
Faon didn’t ask further and simply nodded.
“Should I boil a bit more? Although I prepared two portions this morning, I’m still afraid there won’t be enough water and you’ll catch a cold.”
“No need, no need.”
After saying that, Evalyn went to the bedroom, grabbed a change of clothes, and walked into the bathroom.
In the dressing room outside the bathroom, Evalyn entered the Guild.
When she entered this time, the Receptionist was not standing at the counter as usual.
She appeared directly in front of her and spoke in a cold tone, “Miss Evalyn, the conditions to view the content of the Special Commission have been met.
Would you like to view them now?”
“Is this the Special Commission you said would unlock after completing a Difficult Commission?”
As she spoke, Evalyn glanced at her attire.
Seeing that she was indeed still wearing that Maid Uniform, Evalyn was still somewhat dissatisfied, especially after just completing a commission.
“Yes. Because the rewards and content of a Special Commission are extremely complex, a Matchmaker can view the content in advance once certain conditions are met to facilitate preparation. However, the condition to unlock and accept it remains the same: completing the preceding Difficult Commission.”
The Receptionist explained, but after the explanation, she added, “Also, please note, Miss Evalyn, that Special Commissions are extremely important. They are fixed commissions that will affect your entire career as a Matchmaker. Therefore, a Matchmaker cannot refuse to accept them. Once a Special Commission is accepted, no other commissions can be accepted at the same time.”
