“Help meeeee!”
Cold wind stabbed at Bai Li’s face like needles, followed by a sudden, intense sensation of weightlessness.
The feeling of falling from a height sent her into a panic, her arms and legs flailing wildly in the air.
The snow-white, fleshy wings on her back flapped instinctively, but her movements were disorganized and frantic.
Instead of slowing her descent, they only caused her body to wobble and sway precariously in midair.
“You rebellious daughter!!!”
Bai Li screamed, her voice cracking with fury and desperation.
Just as she was barely ten feet from the ground, looking like she was about to slam into the earth…
Baining’s wings unfurled.
The tips of her wings shimmered with a faint silver light, creating a powerful current of air that steadily supported Bai Li’s falling body.
She reached out and caught her in a princess carry, shielding her securely in her arms.
“I’m here to save you, so don’t be so panicked~ my dear daughter~”
Baining’s voice was laced with amusement, though it carried a hint of sincerity.
“This is how all we Vampires learn to fly. Besides, you were so busy screaming that you didn’t focus on controlling your wings. That’s why you lost control~”
Bai Li was held in midair, her feet barely a foot from the ground, gently swaying.
Gasping for breath, her chest heaving, she glared at the nearby Baining.
Her face flushed red as she shouted in anger.
“Baining, how dare you say that! Who just pushes someone off without a word? Were you trying to kill me?!”
“How could I?”
Baining let go, allowing her to stand steadily on the ground.
She then flapped her own wings, floating lightly in the air in front of Bai Li, the smile in her eyes impossible to hide.
“You’re my precious daughter, not to mention you were once my Pops. How could I bear to let you get hurt? Besides, if I didn’t force you to experience weightlessness once, how would you ever remember the feeling of controlling your wings?”
Bai Li stomped her foot in frustration, the fleshy wings on her back still trembling from her agitation.
She stiffened her neck and glared at Baining, completely unaware that she didn’t look threatening at all.
With her small stature and wide wings, her face flushed from the scare, she looked exactly like a ruffled, shy little kitten.
“Hmph!”
Bai Li turned her head away.
“I’m not learning anymore! I was a human to begin with. This Demon Race flight is no fun at all!”
“Oh?”
Baining descended slowly and folded her wings.
She walked up to Bai Li, raising an eyebrow as she looked at her with a teasing tone.
“But who was it that seemed so interested just a moment ago after hearing they could learn to fly? It hasn’t even been that long, and you’ve already changed your mind?”
“I…”
Bai Li was suddenly at a loss for words, her cheeks turning an even deeper shade of red.
It was true; when she first heard she could learn to fly, her heart had been full of anticipation.
It was just that this sudden, hardcore teaching method was far beyond what she could handle.
Seeing her struggle to speak, looking utterly aggrieved, Baining couldn’t help but chuckle.
She reached out and gently ruffled Bai Li’s hair.
“Alright, alright, I’ll stop teasing you. I was a bit too rushed just now. From now on, I’ll teach you slowly, okay?”
‘Hmph, that’s more like it. I wouldn’t have been so unwilling if she’d just asked nicely!’
Bai Li muttered to herself.
She kept her face turned away but gave a small, secret nod.
In truth, despite being scared half to death earlier, that feeling of breaking free from the earth’s shackles and soaring through the wind had sparked a faint sense of excitement in her heart.
“Come, try again.”
Baining stepped aside and gestured for her to spread her wings.
“Don’t worry about flying high this time. Just glide close to the ground. Feel the direction of the wind first, let your wings flap gently with the current. Remember, keep the strength steady, don’t use too much force.”
Bai Li took a deep breath, steadied her nerves, and spread the wings on her back once more.
Having learned her lesson, she didn’t dare be careless this time.
She closed her eyes to concentrate, carefully feeling every movement of her wings.
A breeze brushed past her, carrying the faint scent of flowers from the courtyard.
She tried to let the wing membranes ripple slightly, flapping slowly in the direction of the wind.
At first, her body was still shaky.
She stumbled several times and nearly fell, but each time Baining was there to catch her with quick reflexes.
However, hard work paid off.
After practicing for a while, she gradually got the hang of it.
The frequency of her wing flaps became steadier, and her body slowly lifted off the ground, beginning to glide smoothly just above the grass.
“Yes, just like that!”
Baining’s voice was full of praise.
“Keep this rhythm and slowly increase your height. You can do it~”
Hearing the encouragement, Bai Li’s confidence grew.
She tried to slightly increase the power of her wing flaps, and her body rose slowly.
From gliding against the ground, to one or two feet up, and finally to ten feet high—heaven rewards the diligent, and Bai Li was finally flying!
The cool wind rushed beneath her wings, bringing an unprecedented sense of freedom.
She couldn’t help but curl her lips into a smile, her eyes sparkling with joy.
“I… I’m really flying!”
Bai Li cried out in surprise.
She couldn’t help but flap her wings and surge forward.
She flew over the flowerbeds in the courtyard, the air current scattering petals until they drifted all over her.
She flew over the pond, where the clear water reflected her small, winged silhouette.
She even tried gentle turns and slow circles.
Although her movements were still a bit clumsy, she could already control her direction with flexibility.
Baining unfolded her wings and followed leisurely behind her, flying side by side.
She watched the uninhibited smile spreading across Bai Li’s face.
This was the first time she had seen Bai Li so happy.
There was no resistance, no grievance—only pure, heartfelt joy.
“How is it, daughter? Doesn’t it feel amazing to fly with the wind?”
Baining shouted with a laugh.
“Yeah, yeah!”
Bai Li replied without looking back, her voice full of excitement.
“Do you feel a great sense of accomplishment?”
“Mhm! So much!”
“Then do you want to keep flying like this? Forever, higher, and longer?”
“I do!”
Bai Li blurted out without a second thought.
“Then… then don’t think about changing back anymore, okay?”
“Okay… Wait! Like hell I will!”
Bai Li snapped back to her senses and immediately retorted, leaving no room for argument.
“Aww, I couldn’t even trick you~”
Baining let out a fake sigh of regret, but the amusement in her eyes only deepened.
“You damned rebellious daughter! You really want me to fall and become part of the Demon Race that badly?!”
Bai Li flapped her wings angrily, glaring at her while hovering in midair.
“I’m telling you, even if your Pops falls to his death from the sky today, or sneaks out and dies in the middle of nowhere, I will never want to keep this Demon body for even a single second!”
Bai Li spoke with absolute determination, but Baining wasn’t angry at all.
She just watched the girl’s receding figure and whispered to herself.
‘Pops, oh Pops, you’d better remember those words you said today.’
