Just what kind of creature is hiding in here!
The battered yet resilient door was kicked open once again.
The room was empty, containing only a simple table, chairs, and no unnecessary decorations.
Dinksway walked slowly into the house, scanning his surroundings, but he found nothing suspicious.
He decided to check the other rooms.
Dinksway walked to the door of Sodlan’s room and chose to kick it open as well.
At a glance, there was nothing there.
He stepped out of the room and kicked open the door to Zhu Qiu’s room. It was also empty.
“This is impossible. Where is the Dragon Race? Tell me, where did they go?”
Dinksway closed his eyes and sensed carefully.
There was indeed a faint lingering scent of the Dragon Race in the house, yet he could not find a single trace of them.
Refusing to believe it, he began to rummage through Zhu Qiu’s room.
They weren’t under the bed, by the window, or outside.
If they weren’t here, he would check the next room.
He searched Sodlan’s room again, but still found nothing.
Next was the washroom and the bathroom, but he didn’t see a single Dragon Scale.
“Where on earth is the Dragon Race!”
Dinksway let out an angry shout.
Finding nothing, he couldn’t help but sigh and turn to leave.
At that moment, he realized there was still a kitchen he hadn’t searched.
He walked in without much hope, but suddenly discovered two things that were completely out of place in this home — a Custom Baby Bottle and milk powder.
Dinksway stepped forward to observe.
The milk powder was open, and the Custom Baby Bottle had been cleaned not long ago, with water droplets still clinging to its surface.
A Sword Saint would never eat such things meant for children, and Sodlan had been captured by the King long ago.
Combined with what the King’s subordinate had said yesterday, it was enough to prove it — the evidence was here, and the dragon definitely existed.
This was the food the Sword Saint had prepared for the Dragon Cub she was raising.
“Sword Saint, you’re in trouble.”
The corners of Dinksway’s mouth curled up into a slight smile.
—
The moment she arrived at the front door, Zhu Qiu froze.
‘I remember I locked the door? Why… is the door down?’
Zhu Qiu didn’t care to think too much about it, assuming the door was simply old and had fallen on its own.
She gently placed Sodlan on the bed and prepared to go to the kitchen to cook some porridge for her father.
There were no vegetables in the refrigerator; the only thing edible in the house was rice.
She would add some sugar to give the porridge some flavor.
Zhu Qiu returned to the room and sat on the edge of the bed.
She looked dejected and exhausted, as if she were at death’s door.
The Sword Spirit sensed the Sword Saint’s unhappiness and emerged to offer some comfort.
“Don’t be sad. It’s a good thing that Father has been rescued. He’ll recover quickly once he eats something.”
“Sword Spirit, that’s not what I’m worried about right now. I’m thinking about where our family will live in the future. The house will be gone, and after how I dealt with the King, we certainly can’t stay with the Human Race anymore. If I can’t settle down with the Human Race, will I have to wander the wilderness or beg other countries to take me in?”
Zhu Qiu fell into a state of confusion, having no idea what her future life would hold.
“Don’t be sad. There are always more solutions than problems. The world is huge; we’ll definitely find a place to live,” the Sword Spirit comforted her.
“I hope so. If it really comes down to it, I’ll have to ask Zhu Xiaxia for help.”
Zhu Qiu didn’t actually want to trouble Zhu Xiaxia.
After all, this was an internal matter of the Human Race, and it was best for other races not to interfere.
After a while, the porridge was ready.
Zhu Qiu served a bowl, blew on it to cool it down, added a large handful of sugar, and held it out to Sodlan.
“Father, it’s time for porridge.”
She fed her father spoonful by spoonful.
Sodlan’s consciousness had recovered significantly, and he swallowed the porridge offered to him.
Zhu Qiu fed him carefully like this.
Watching her father’s spirit gradually improve, her mood was no longer as heavy as it had been at the start.
Zhu Qiu served another bowl and handed it over.
“Father, the porridge is finished. I’ll get you another bowl.”
This time, Sodlan sat up directly, though he was still a bit weak.
When another bowl was brought over, he spoke.
“Soran, I’ll do it myself.”
Sodlan took the bowl in his hand and ate.
To be honest, he felt ashamed; he was an adult, yet he needed to be cared for by his daughter who had only recently come of age.
Although Soran was an adult now, she was still just a child in his eyes.
She carried the responsibilities of the Sword Saint and had endured too much at such a young age.
Now, she even had the added burden of taking care of him…
‘My daughter has grown up, and I have grown old.’
Without realizing it, Sodlan finished the porridge in the bowl.
“I’ll go get you more.”
Zhu Qiu tried to take the bowl, but Sodlan pulled his hand back.
“No need, I can manage.”
“Alright then.”
She simply grabbed a bowl for herself and started eating.
She hadn’t expected white rice porridge with sugar to be so delicious; Zhu Qiu liked it very much.
That night, Zhu Qiu lay in bed, unable to fall asleep for a long time.
“Sword Spirit, come out and talk to me.”
“Oh my, what is wrong with you lately? Ever since we returned to the Human Race, you’ve been calling for me every few minutes. Can’t you live without me?”
The Sword Spirit said playfully as she burrowed into the blankets and hugged Zhu Qiu tightly.
“Sigh, I’m so sad. I’ve never been this sad before. Even when I was bullied by Zhu Xiaxia, I was only angry. This feels terrible.”
“Then don’t be sad anymore. It’s just leaving the Human Race territory. It’s just like moving to a new house, just changing locations. It’s no big deal.”
“But I’m attached to this house. I’ve lived here for eighteen years. I really don’t want it to be torn down; it’s full of my memories.”
“Well, isn’t that simple? Just move the house there with you!”
The Sword Spirit suddenly realized how unrealistic her suggestion was and quickly tried to take it back.
“If you’re taking that seriously, then pretend I didn’t say anything.”
“That’s it!”
Zhu Qiu was suddenly enlightened.
“If I just move the house, I can live a normal life. I’ll only need to solve the food problem. Huh? Am I really going to move the house? I was just joking!”
“You said you were joking, but I took it seriously.”
The Sword Spirit looked at her in disbelief.
“The house is so big. How are you going to move it?”
“I have a way!”
Zhu Qiu turned over and pulled the Ancient Dragon Magic Book from under her pillow, flipping to the Space-type chapter.
“Sword Spirit, give me some light. I’m going to study by lamplight tonight.”
She had only learned a portion of it last time; she had to finish it all this time!
On the other side of the house, Sodlan was also unable to sleep.
Tomorrow was the final day.
The situation was set, and there was no way to change it.
To avoid being left with nothing when the house was demolished, he got out of bed and started packing.
Sodlan found a burlap sack and began putting all the important items inside.
When he prepared to put a hidden photograph into the sack, his heart trembled slightly.
Looking at the lifelike image in the photo, Sodlan could not express the emotions swelling within him.
He could only helplessly tuck the photograph into the inner pocket of his clothes.
