Could it be that Yuriko is actually a member of the underworld?
‘No, Yuriko is so kind. She would never be part of the Mafia. They must have used threats and lures to force her to join.’
She would ask Yuriko for the truth once she returned.
If that were really the case, she had to find a way to save Yuriko!
Speaking of which, why hadn’t Yuriko come back yet?
She should send a message to ask.
Carmilla sent a message to Yuriko and waited quietly.
Two minutes passed, and Yuriko still hadn’t replied.
“She hasn’t replied for so long. Could she be in trouble?”
Carmilla paced anxiously in the room, her worry for Yuriko growing.
This was the North District.
She had heard that the gangs here were ruthless, so much so that gangs from other areas didn’t dare provoke them.
“Calm down. She probably just didn’t notice my message. I’ll try calling her.”
Carmilla dialed Yuriko’s number.
On the other side, Yuriko was in the middle of a heated fight.
The screams of the Flying Wheel Gang members filled the air, making it impossible for her to notice the phone vibrating in her pocket.
“What should I do? She isn’t even picking up. Did she really run into trouble?”
Carmilla became increasingly frantic, pacing in circles as she tried to decide what to do.
‘I should go downstairs and look for her.’
Carmilla walked to the door, intending to leave the top floor, but she found Phantom blocking her path.
“Meow, meow-meow!”
Phantom pawed at Carmilla’s socks, attempting to stop her.
“Be good, don’t play around. I need to find Ruri.”
Carmilla knelt, gently stroking Phantom before setting the cat aside.
Before she could take two steps, Phantom bit her sock again.
The cat tugged backward, trying to hold Carmilla back.
“Phantom, let go! I really have to find Ruri!”
Carmilla said urgently.
She was afraid of hurting Phantom and didn’t dare shake the cat off too hard, but Phantom held on tight and wouldn’t budge even with a gentle tug.
“Meow!”
After dragging Phantom along for a short distance, Carmilla suddenly clapped her hands and said to the cat, “I get it! Phantom, you must be worried about Ruri too, right? I’ll take you with me to find her!”
“Meow?”
Carmilla knelt and scooped up the confused Phantom.
“Let’s go find Ruri together!”
Cradled in Carmilla’s arms, Phantom lay back with a look of utter resignation, leaning against Carmilla’s chest.
‘Whatever. I’ve done my best. You can’t blame a little kitten for failing to stop her, right? Yuriko, you’re on your own.’
Carmilla carried Phantom downstairs.
Since she wasn’t familiar with the area, she didn’t run around blindly but found a passerby to ask for directions.
“Excuse me, Ma’am, do you know where the nearest supermarket is?”
The woman turned around to see Carmilla.
Seeing how polite and pretty the girl was, she immediately felt a sense of goodwill toward her.
“Young lady, you’re a student from Shengxiu Academy, aren’t you? You’re certainly young and promising. However, I suggest you go home and hide for a while. Come back out later.”
The woman’s warning confused Carmilla.
She pressed further, “Why is that?”
“Sigh, there’s another gang fight nearby. They’re still at it. A pretty girl like you will surely run into trouble if you cross their path. Take my advice and go home to hide!”
“A gang fight?!”
Could it be that Yuriko hadn’t returned because she was caught in a struggle between the Mafia?
Thinking of the unanswered call, Carmilla couldn’t help but lean toward that conclusion.
“Thank you for the warning, but my friend is missing. She might be in danger, and I can’t just sit by. Can you tell me where they are?”
“You poor child… Sigh, well, you’re a student from Shengxiu Academy, so they probably won’t dare touch you. I’ll tell you then. It’s over to the west. There are so many of them, a massive crowd. I ran as soon as I saw them from afar!”
“Thank you, Ma’am!”
Carmilla hurriedly ran off, clutching Phantom.
“Sigh, that girl…”
The woman sighed and went back to her own business.
***
At the site of the clash between the Flying Wheel Gang and the Bone Crusher Gang.
The screams of the Flying Wheel Gang members were endless.
They cried out about “demons” while weeping and begging for mercy, though a few stubborn ones were still shouting insults.
For those who remained stubborn, Yuriko rewarded them with a few extra slaps to teach them which words were acceptable and which were not.
“Crack!”
After breaking the arm of one gang member, Yuriko turned her gaze toward the last man standing.
This member had long since been scared out of his wits.
Seeing Yuriko walking toward him, his legs gave out, and he fell to his knees with a thud.
“Big Sis—no, Grandma! Please spare me! I was just brought here to fill the numbers. I never had any intention of fighting!”
Yuriko remained deaf to his pleas.
‘So what if you’re just here to fill the numbers? Does that mean I can’t hit you? Since you’re here to fill the numbers, you might as well count toward my kill streak!’
Yuriko gave him a kick, sending him flying.
He landed by the roadside and rolled several times.
“Phew, done. They looked like a lot, but they turned out to be a bunch of cowards. They didn’t even dare to fight properly.”
Yuriko dusted off her hands, intending to call her people to wrap things up, when she saw Carmilla standing at the intersection, staring at her blankly.
Phantom was in her arms, looking as if the cat couldn’t bear to watch.
Phantom shook her head and lay down in Carmilla’s arms to stare at a nearby utility pole.
The last member of the Flying Wheel Gang she had kicked landed right in front of Carmilla, groaning in pain.
The scene of over 100 people rolling on the ground and screaming was truly shocking.
It left a well-behaved girl like Carmilla stunned, her legs nearly giving way.
The moment she saw Carmilla, cold sweat poured down Yuriko’s back.
She never imagined that the scene of her beating people up would be witnessed by Carmilla.
This was the one thing she wanted to avoid most.
‘Phantom, didn’t I tell you to watch her? How did you let her out!’
‘What could I do, meow? I’m just a little kitten.’
‘Dammit, no more snacks for you!’
‘!’
‘Damn, I hope she didn’t recognize me.’
Yuriko was currently wearing the Ogre Mask and wasn’t in her school uniform, so Carmilla might not necessarily recognize her.
She walked toward Carmilla and shouted in a low, gravelly voice, “What is a student from Shengxiu Academy doing here? Get out of here right now, or I won’t be polite!”
Carmilla was indeed frightened into taking a step back, but she immediately mustered her courage and walked toward Yuriko instead.
Seeing this, Yuriko’s heart leaped into her throat.
Worried about being exposed, she spoke harshly again.
“Are you tired of living? Don’t think I won’t touch you just because you’re a student of Shengxiu Academy. Do you see these guys on the ground? If you don’t leave, you’ll end up just like them!”
