“Beep… beep… beep… beep…”
By the hospital bed, a doctor held a clipboard, staring at the jumping numbers on the EKG machine, silently recording the data with a pen, occasionally flipping through records from previous days.
“Sigh, Luo Xiaosu, your heart rate seems even slower than yesterday’s.”
Putting down the clipboard, the doctor spoke.
“Mm…”
Luo Xiaosu remained silent.
He should have been old enough for high school this year, but now he could only lie in a hospital bed.
His faintly glowing skin and pure white hair made it easy to tell that he suffered from a currently incurable disease—Fluorescence Disease.
It was an illness caused by some inexplicable error in his cellular genes.
Those afflicted, regardless of gender, would have their skin become incredibly smooth and delicate, emitting a soft fluorescence that looked dreamlike.
Yet, behind this beauty, the cost was a life that withered away at an alarming rate.
As the doctor silently walked out of the ward and gently closed the door, Luo Xiaosu turned his head to look out the window.
Snowflakes fell from the sky, gently clinging to the treetops, as if putting a white hat on the trees.
‘It’s winter… I wonder if I can survive this one?’
Thinking to himself, Luo Xiaosu slowly withdrew his gaze.
Knock knock knock.
The sudden knock on the door broke the silence of the ward.
“Come in.”
The door opened, and a young girl entered.
She wore a white blouse and a light blue long skirt, her hair tied up high with a few stray strands hanging by her ears.
In her hands, she held a book with a black leather cover.
“I finally found you, big sister…”
The girl approached step by step, her gaze fixed on Luo Xiaosu’s face.
Her eyes were filled with the joy of reunion after a long separation and the surprise of finding something lost, along with a faint, imperceptible, sickly fervor.
“Who are you?”
Luo Xiaosu looked at her with confusion.
He knew very well that there was no such beautiful girl in his memories.
Ever since birth, his strange illness had subjected him to others’ unusual stares, and he had long grown numb to it.
But being gazed at so tenderly by this girl before him stirred an unprecedented palpitation in his heart.
“Big sister… As expected, seeing you just makes me unable to resist…”
Her voice carried a hint of suppressed desire.
As if she hadn’t heard Luo Xiaosu’s question, she slowly walked to the bedside, leaned down, and gently pressed a kiss onto his faintly glowing lips.
Her posture was like that of lovers who had been together for ten years.
Feeling the soft, warm touch with a hint of fragrance lingering on his lips—so out of place in the ward’s pungent smell of disinfectant—Luo Xiaosu’s eyes widened, and he froze on the bed.
“What… what are you doing!”
He suddenly pushed the girl away and shouted.
The girl did not reply.
Instead, she leaned down again, quietly reaching out her hand as if to caress Luo Xiaosu’s face.
Slap! A crisp sound rang out.
Luo Xiaosu’s face flushed red.
He simply couldn’t understand how this beautiful, unfamiliar girl would forcibly kiss him without a word—wasn’t that perverted?
“Big sister…”
The unfamiliar girl’s hand froze in midair, her eyes filled with sorrow.
The fingertips that had wanted to touch his cheek slowly retreated, finally falling helplessly to her side.
She didn’t say another word.
She just gave Luo Xiaosu a deep look, then turned and left.
‘It’s okay, big sister… We’ll meet again.’
Luo Xiaosu stared blankly at the girl’s retreating back until the re-closed door blocked his view.
He still hadn’t quite snapped out of the shock from earlier.
‘What kind of nonsense is this! A beautiful girl suddenly bursts in and kisses me? Am I dreaming?’
Helplessly holding his forehead, Luo Xiaosu tried to convince himself that everything just now was an illusion.
But the lingering sweetness at the corner of his mouth told him it was no illusion.
‘Could she be some junior who secretly has a crush on me? But she called me big sister—did she make a mistake?’
Tormented internally, Luo Xiaosu lay back down, leaning against the headboard.
His fingertips suddenly touched something hard.
It was the book the girl had brought.
On the black cover, embossed in gold letters, was the title:
The Fairy Tale Book.
The Fairy Tale Book? Did that person leave this behind?
Luo Xiaosu looked at the book with confusion.
Curiously, he opened the cover, but inside there was only a paragraph.
“Do you wish to make your wishes come true? Sign this contract, and all your desires will come true like the protagonist in a fairy tale, turning dreams into reality.”
“What’s this?”
Luo Xiaosu frowned at the incomprehensible words.
But when he tried to turn the next page, something unexpected happened.
The book slowly flew out of his hand and floated in midair.
The pages fluttered rapidly with a whoosh, emitting a blinding white light.
Just as Luo Xiaosu raised his hand to shield his eyes from the dazzling light, his body suddenly felt a powerful suction force, and in an instant, he was pulled into the book.
Then, the book closed again and fell onto the hospital bed.
In the ward, only the sound of the EKG machine remained.
No longer a beeping beep, but a continuous beeeeeeep.
“…”
When Luo Xiaosu opened his eyes again, the sight before her immediately astonished her.
No longer the clean hospital room, but towering ancient trees blocking out the sky.
“Did I… transmigrate?”
She instinctively wanted to rub her dizzy forehead, but suddenly realized with surprise that her arm was no longer glowing.
She quickly looked down.
The loose hospital gown she had worn was now replaced by a black hooded cloak, the hem stained with dark red bloodstains.
The wide hood covered her head, hiding half her face in shadow.
Under the cloak was a beige cloth shirt and brown shorts.
The collar was slightly open, and her chest was faintly raised, indicating her current gender.
Lower down were pale white thighs, wrapped in black knee-high socks and brown high leather boots.
In her hand was a cold magic wand, with a purple gem at the tip faintly glowing.
‘I… became a girl!’
Luo Xiaosu’s eyes widened.
She touched her chest with her hand, and a tingling sensation rushed straight to her brain.
“Eep!”
A delicate cry escaped her lips.
“No… this isn’t right!”
She looked further down, intending to check if she really had become female.
But when her peripheral vision noticed something at her feet, her outstretched hand froze in midair.
What came into view was a large expanse of blood, staining the ground red.
Scattered in the pool of blood were several dismembered limbs and fragments of flesh, emitting a nauseating stench.
“Eek!”
Luo Xiaosu let out a strange shriek.
Her legs went weak, and she stumbled backward until her back hit a large tree, barely steadying herself.
She tightly covered her mouth, forcing down the discomfort in her stomach.
‘This… these are… corpses!’
Before she could fully adjust to the scene, a cold electronic mechanical voice suddenly rang in her mind.
[The world storyline is importing…]
The sudden voice in her head startled Luo Xiaosu.
Before she could figure out its source, a sharp pain struck her brain, and then a flood of memories poured into her mind.
The intense pain forced her to half-lean against the tree behind her, clutching her head and groaning in agony.
The stabbing pain came and went quickly.
Within just a few breaths, it gradually subsided.
Luo Xiaosu breathed heavily, her chest heaving violently, as if she still hadn’t recovered from the sharp pain.
“Hah… Did I transmigrate into a fairy tale world and become a witch?”
She picked up the magic wand that had fallen at her feet, looked at the bloodstains on her cloak and the gruesome scene not far away, and couldn’t help frowning.
“But why is it such a scene?”
She frowned deeply, a chill rising up her spine.
Aren’t fairy tale worlds supposed to be filled with birdsong, flowers, and sunshine?
Ding—
A crisp electronic mechanical sound rang in her mind, interrupting Luo Xiaosu’s thoughts.
