One after another, commotions ensured that tonight the Royal Capital would be an unsettled night.
Among them, one group stood out as particularly special.
Not long after Nie Qi left, a group of guards from House Bei Yao headed toward the Academy.
Midway, they were blocked by a carriage coming from the opposite direction.
Before they could understand what was happening, Teanya leaned out of the carriage.
“Take a good look at whose carriage this is.”
Upon closer inspection, the large crest of House Geno hung beside the carriage.
Everyone exchanged glances, not daring to act rashly.
“Miss Tif, what do you mean by this?”
From the crowd, Beiyao stepped out surrounded by attendants, an unpleasant expression on her face.
She had thought House Geno would find out, but didn’t expect they would be so fast.
However, House Geno’s forces were not here at the moment; they only had their title and presence.
Others might fear them, but she would not.
“I want to ask you what you mean.”
Tif got down from the carriage, her words sharp.
“I did consider that Miss Yilu’s situation might be related to you, but it was only suspicion. I didn’t expect you to be so despicable.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
The situation was still unclear. Even though that person was indeed powerful, Beiyao still had concerns.
She didn’t know the specifics of the commotion in the distance.
Tif narrowed her eyes, a scornful look on her face. “Then let me ask you: late at night, why are you taking so many people to the Academy?”
At the Academy, she never interfered in the situation between Beiyao and Yilu—after all, that was their own affair.
But if she had really colluded with that Witch, it would be going too far.
“Of course I have important business. People of House Geno have no right to interfere.”
“And if I insist today?”
The person who had been following Lyr had already come to tell Tif that the place where Lyr last disappeared was in the direction of the Academy.
No matter the current situation, she would not let Beiyao go there and cause trouble.
“You?”
Beiyao gritted her teeth. She usually couldn’t stand this person anyway, and now being blocked made her furious.
Both sides were heavily charged with tension. Teanya, on the sidelines, was troubled and muttered to Tif, “Just the two of us?”
In front of them was a dark mass of people, while they only had two, plus the coachman—at most three.
Tif ignored her, silently locking eyes with Beiyao, unwilling to yield an inch in presence.
Beiyao hesitated for a moment, then slowly raised her hand, intending to signal those around her to act.
It was just one carriage, which posed no threat to them—even laughable.
“Don’t block the way here.”
As the sound of horse hooves approached, a deep, powerful voice rang out.
A troop of people wearing knight armor rode in mightily, coming to a halt right behind Tif’s carriage.
“It’s the Knights,” Teanya warned.
The leader looked around and noticed Tif and Beiyao. “The Academy is in a special situation. Please do not linger here.”
The unclear situation made both Tif and Beiyao raise an eyebrow.
Both of them were concerned about the specific situation at the Academy.
Only Teanya acted like an outsider, asking them, “What happened over there?”
The Knight pulled on the reins, making his horse trot in place. “We don’t know yet. We were just ordered to maintain order here and keep people away to avoid casualties.”
He wasn’t lying. They had originally heard the commotion from the Academy and were preparing to go investigate.
But before they set out, they received the King’s orders to guard the area and not let anyone near. They knew nothing else.
“Please don’t make this difficult for us.”
The words seemed like a request, but the tone turned serious, carrying a warning.
The Knights were directly appointed by the Kingdom, and among them were many nobles, so they naturally weren’t afraid of these two families.
In this situation, Beiyao was dissatisfied but had no choice but to give up. She shot Tif a vicious glare, then turned and left.
On the other side, the Academy grounds were a mess. The once flat ground was full of potholes, and several surrounding buildings had collapsed.
Seeing Nie Qi completely disappear, Lyr let out a big breath, his legs giving way as he collapsed to the ground.
Countless bolts of lightning turned into specks of light, slowly drifting toward the Thunder Spirit Sword as the power returned to it.
Looking at the Thunder Spirit Sword, he suddenly laughed. “It really can bring me good luck.”
He had thought it was just something his family said to console him, but it actually came true.
It wasn’t that he could resist the Curse, but that the Thunder Fairy’s power was unaffected by the Curse, and he had received its help.
Lyr was extremely tired now, his whole body aching. He didn’t want to do anything unnecessary.
Just as he was about to close his eyes and rest for a bit, he saw a figure slowly approaching him.
With his eyes lowered, Lyr saw that the other person was holding that key.
“You knew everything all along, didn’t you?”
Lyr looked up and saw Yilu looking down at him. Her expression was calm, completely unlike someone who had just experienced all that.
Lyr grinned. “I feel like everything I did was a bit unnecessary.”
“It really was unnecessary.” Yilu felt a subtle emotion. “Hasn’t anyone told you that meddling in other people’s affairs is annoying?”
“Yeah, Tif says that all the time.” Lyr paused. “But at that time, if I had followed the Academy Director’s intention and taken you to open that place, you would have definitely become a Witch.”
No one had expected that the ruins were not the key, but rather this key was.
What it could open was not just the ruins, but it guided the power to return to the Nightmare Witch’s bloodline.
Yilu thought back carefully, and then understood what Lyr’s hesitant expression that day was about. He probably wanted to tell her this, but was worried about her becoming a Witch.
“What’s wrong with that? I gain the power I’ve always wanted and can do anything I wish.”
If someone had tried to stop her from gaining power in the past, she would never have spoken to him so calmly.
“That’s exactly what’s most troubling.”
“Troubling?” Yilu was half puzzled, half displeased.
“Forget it, there’s no use talking about it now.”
Faced with the established facts, Lyr didn’t want to dwell on this and instead cared about something else.
“By the way, the Curse on you…”
Before he could finish, a rustling sound was heard. Yilu dropped one knee, lowering her entire body while the other leg supported her, still able to look down at Lyr.
“I want to know, how much of a headache am I to you?”
This posture somehow gave Lyr the illusion that he was being interrogated.
“What are you doing?”
If Yilu had maintained a cold or angry attitude like before when asking him, Lyr would have found it normal. But now, something was very off.
