“Ah… mm… mm… ah—!”
A kind and gentle old woman slowly and carefully read out the syllables, her voice calm and patient as she enunciated each sound. “This word means quiet. Do you understand what it means now?”
Ying Su gave a slow and deliberate nod, indicating that she understood.
“Good child,” the old woman said with a faint, approving smile. “Then let’s move on and learn the next word.”
Creak—!
“Ms. Roland, are you still teaching?” A woman dressed in a white coat leaned slightly into the room from the doorway, her presence quiet but noticeable.
“Yes, Dr. Anna,” the elderly woman replied in a steady tone. “However, we are almost finished for today. If you have something you need to attend to, you may begin your work early.”
“That won’t be necessary,” the woman answered calmly. “I still have plenty of time available. I’ll simply stay here and observe from the side.”
The woman addressed as Dr. Anna had long, smooth black hair that fell neatly down her back. She wore a pair of gold-rimmed round glasses, and her attire was clean and well-fitted. Her demeanor was composed and refined, carrying an air of quiet elegance. Her appearance and bearing made her look exactly like an elite researcher from a prestigious institute.
In reality, that description was completely accurate.
This place was known as Containment Facility Three. It was located deep within mountains that could not be mapped or surveyed. A powerful magnetic field surrounded the area, preventing any aircraft from passing overhead, while the main structure itself was buried far beneath the ground.
If any kind of incident were to occur, the entire facility would be sealed and buried underground, ensuring that none of the dangerous entities contained within could escape into the outside world.
Hidden within what ordinary people believed to be reality, this place existed quietly, detaining those dangerous and abnormal creatures that defied common sense, all in order to maintain peace in the world.
Roland continued with the lesson, which consisted only of simple reading and writing exercises. Meanwhile, Anna pulled over a chair and sat down, quietly observing the subject she was about to take responsibility for.
Project Number B347.
The target had been discovered in a town. At the time of initial discovery, it had been confined within a basement. Inside that location, multiple women had engaged in a brutal and violent struggle, attracting the attention of the police. According to their own statements, they had fought and killed one another in an attempt to claim ownership of the target. Eventually, the containment facility intervened and secured the subject.
No corresponding biological data for the target could be found within the database.
Because the target possessed extremely limited language ability, a teacher had been assigned to provide instruction.
At present, basic communication had only just become possible.
The subject displayed a tendency toward friendliness and obedience, and overall, it could still be considered relatively safe.
After finishing her review of the previous records, Anna lifted her gaze and looked toward the small girl sitting quietly on the sofa.
The girl resembled a delicate doll made of snow, her entire body so pale that it seemed almost translucent. Her skin appeared soft, smooth, and tender, as though she had just been born under the protection of her mother.
She looked fragile, weak, and naturally evoked a sense of sympathy in anyone who saw her.
She was dressed in the standard white dress issued by the facility.
“Alright,” Roland said at last, bringing the lesson to a close. “That will be all for today’s lesson, Miss Ying Su. The next time I come, I will ask you about the vocabulary you learned today. Make sure you do not forget it.”
“Mm.” Ying Su gave a small nod of her head in response.
As Roland finished speaking and stepped away, Anna stood up and walked forward.
“Hello, little cutie,” Dr. Anna said as she stopped in front of her. “From now on, I will be the one responsible for you.”
The girl simply nodded again without saying anything.
“If you have any needs or requests, you can tell me,” Anna continued in a calm and reassuring tone. “There will also be some related tests, but please don’t worry, they will not be very difficult. So, do you have any questions right now?”
Ying Su raised her hand slightly and pointed toward the side.
“Ah… you would like to go pick flowers?” Anna interpreted. “That’s fine. I’ll wait here for a moment.”
Ying Su slipped down from the sofa, her movements light and quiet, and then walked over in small steps.
Out of one dangerous situation and into another.
For Ying Su, although this environment was far better than the basement—cleaner, more organized, and without any unpleasant smells—there was, in essence, not much of a real difference.
She lifted her head and looked at the surveillance camera above, which rotated slowly without any blind spots.
Here, she had no privacy at all. Every action she took had to be done with caution.
After washing her hands at the sink, she raised her head and looked at her reflection in the mirror.
She appeared clean and delicate, her features soft and cute, like an angel that had descended from the heavens.
She reached out and gently pinched her own cheek. It felt soft and smooth, almost as if it could release water when pressed.
She had no idea how much time had passed.
During her time in the basement, she had completely lost all sense of time. She could not tell whether it had been day or night.
As someone who had transmigrated into this world, wasn’t this an incredibly miserable way to live?
Where was her cheat ability? Why had it still not appeared?
Could it be that becoming soft, fair, and pleasantly fragrant was supposed to be her cheat ability?
She did not need something like that. Wouldn’t that just turn her into something to be consumed?
What kind of cheat ability was that supposed to be?
No matter what, Ying Su was determined to escape. She could no longer tolerate living a life where she was confined like this.
However, now was not the right time. She did not even know where she was, and she still needed an opportunity.
“Your name is Ying Su, correct?” Dr. Anna asked.
Ying Su nodded once again.
“Alright, let me check… you are already an adult…?” Anna said as she looked at the file in her hands, then glanced at Ying Su, and then back at the file again. The bone age data clearly indicated that she was indeed an adult, approximately twenty-two years old.
But…
Looking at her small and delicate frame, Anna found it extremely difficult to accept that fact.
She could easily be placed in a primary school classroom without anyone questioning it.
In fact, children nowadays were probably taller than she was.
“Forget it. Why am I even thinking about this?” Anna muttered to herself. After all, there were many things within this facility that defied imagination.
“Alright, next item… hmm.”
At that moment, Anna seemed to notice a faint and pleasant scent in the air. It was a soft fragrance, not overwhelming or cloying, carrying a gentle and smooth quality with a slight hint of milky sweetness.
Was that scent coming from her?
Was the body wash provided by the facility really that effective?
Anna did not think too deeply about it. After confirming several of the already recorded details, she began to wrap up her work. Before leaving, she asked, “Do you need anything?”
“Could I have a few books?” Ying Su asked. In truth, she wanted electronic devices even more, but she believed there was no chance they would allow that.
“That’s not a problem.”
After their conversation ended, Ying Su assumed that nothing else would happen for the remainder of the day.
It felt somewhat too early to go to sleep.
However, she had nothing else she could do. Back in the dark basement, she had at least been able to pass the time by playing with the generator and experimenting with electricity. Now, with multiple surveillance cameras watching her, she did not dare to do anything like that in front of whoever might be observing from the other side.
She did not even understand what this world was like. From the moment she arrived, she had been taken and confined in a dark room.
Now, it was no longer dark—but there were more eyes watching her.
Lying on the bed and hugging a pillow tightly, she rolled back and forth, thinking carefully and planning.
Every morning at eight, Ms. Roland would arrive on time to conduct lessons, which would continue until three in the afternoon. During that time, lunch would be delivered by staff from outside the room.
The room itself was cleaned once every week, although the person responsible for cleaning always wore thick clothing, making it impossible to determine whether it was the same individual each time.
But even if she managed to escape from this room, she still had no idea what the outside environment looked like.
If she truly wanted to escape from this place, she would first need to find a way to leave this room and gather more information about her surroundings.
