Seeing the Corpse Beasts suddenly appear behind Zhang Chuanlei and the others, Zhou Ming immediately shouted at them.
A pack of Corpse Beasts, roughly two meters tall and three meters long. The one at the very back was larger, seemingly the leader of the wolf-type ones. There were twelve in total: two humanoid types and ten gray wolf-types, with one wolf-type noticeably more robust than the rest.
As the distance closed rapidly, Zhang Chuanlei and his team were already firing frantically, emptying their magazines, yet still unable to fully lock onto the specific locations of the Corpse Beasts. Zhou Ming fired a Air Bullet, knocking back a Corpse Beast attempting to attack Zhang Chuanlei.
‘This is a city! How can there be wolf-type Corpse Beasts? Is their habitat even plausible?!’
Zhou Ming’s understanding of Corpse Energy was once again being updated.
“Captain, what do we do now?” Zhou Ming asked. He was temporarily unarmed, making it difficult to deal with the wolf-type Corpse Beasts.
“Tsk… Call for backup!” Zhang Chuanlei exhaled sharply. “Zhou Ang, call for reinforcements. Zhou Ming, be careful, don’t act recklessly. Your main responsibility this time is to protect Gadelia.”
Zhou Ming’s face flushed slightly. Li Yaoming and the others also glanced at him.
“Enough! Right now, we need to figure out how to eliminate these Corpse Beasts!” Zhang Chuanlei roared. His tail-like appendage shot out, directly piercing through a humanoid Corpse Beast, then swept horizontally, sending the approaching beasts flying. After retracting his appendage, he stabbed out again, launching consecutive attacks on the severely wounded humanoid Corpse Beast until it dissipated into gray smoke.
As the captain, he was originally a Dust-rank powerhouse, far beyond what ordinary Dust Grade Corpse Beasts could contend with.
On the other side, Li Yaoming and Yue Liang coordinated, relying on their abilities “Outcome Adjustment” and “Battle of Restraint” to reduce the number of Corpse Beasts within Yue Liang’s domain as much as possible.
Zhou Ming, however, found himself isolated. He activated his ability, perceiving the movements of the surrounding Corpse Beasts, and rolled to dodge a pounce from a wolf-type one.
Whoosh—
A wind blade sliced through the air. Zhou Ming couldn’t dodge completely and was grazed. Before he could react, several more wind blades came at him. Relying on his environmental perception, he threw himself to the ground, narrowly avoiding them.
‘Hiss— Why didn’t the humanoid Corpse Beasts earlier have abilities? Are the wolf-types stronger?’
“Almost lost my life there.”
Zhou Ming rolled over to near Zhang Chuanlei, quickly stood up, and moved closer to the captain.
“You okay, kid?”
“Minor injuries. Can I claim medical expenses?”
Zhang Chuanlei fired several shots at the largest wolf-type Corpse Beast. The bullets suddenly halted around it, as if blocked by some force, then fell powerlessly to the ground.
Zhou Ming’s pupils contracted in disbelief.
‘What is this? A wind-attribute ability similar to a protective aura?’
“Dust-rank,” Zhang Chuanlei said in a low voice. “Zhou Ming, be careful yourself. I’ll go deal with it.”
With that, he forcefully pushed off the ground, his tail-like appendage extending as he swiftly charged towards that wolf-type leader, engaging it in close combat.
Though confused, Zhou Ming kept firing Air Bullets, restraining the Corpse Beasts trying to approach him, while moving closer to Yue Liang and Li Yaoming.
“Any spare weapons?!” Zhou Ming shouted.
“No, didn’t you get a weapon from the Jingquan Union?” Yue Liang replied.
“You can get weapons from them? I thought I had to buy my own! My online order hasn’t arrived yet!”
“Zhou Ming, catch!” Zhou Ang, after finishing his call, rummaged in the car, pulled out an iron rod, and threw it directly to Zhou Ming.
Zhou Ming caught the iron rod. He didn’t have time to complain, just brandished it with imposing momentum.
After dodging several wind blades, he smashed the rod into the waist of a wolf-type Corpse Beast. The wolf-type rolled several times, staggered back to its feet with a low growl, and along with two others, surrounded Zhou Ming from three directions.
Zhou Ming’s heart raced. He fiercely smashed the rod at the head of the Corpse Beast in front of him, used the force to spin around, flung it away, then rolled to break out of the encirclement.
The three wolf-types gathered energy again, firing wind blades from their tails.
Zhou Ming aimed a Air Bullet at the downed Corpse Beast, completely killing it, causing it to dissipate into gray smoke.
Suddenly, he noticed his perception range had expanded, increasing from five meters to five point five meters.
But he had no time to dwell on it. He sidestepped to avoid another wind blade, seized the chance, and forcefully thrust the iron rod into the open mouth of a wolf-type Corpse Beast.
He pushed hard, driving the rod deep into its body, then viciously twisted it.
The wolf-type struggled wildly, its tail gathering energy for another wind blade.
Zhou Ming yanked the rod out, dodged the attack by sidestepping, then immediately fired a Air Bullet into its gaping throat.
Boom!
The Corpse Beast let out a pained roar, but with its throat damaged by the rod, it could only emit a low, mournful whine before finally dissipating into gray smoke.
Panting, Zhou Ming scanned the battlefield. Li Yaoming and Yue Liang, working in perfect sync, were mopping up the remaining Corpse Beasts; Zhou Ang, relying on his ability, was also managing to hold one at bay.
“Why isn’t the backup here yet?!”
Two wolf-type Corpse Beasts simultaneously pounced at Zhou Ming, firing wind blades consecutively. He dodged two but was hit by one on his left arm.
“Hiss— That really hurts.”
Gritting his teeth against the pain, he gripped the iron rod with both hands, facing off against the two Corpse Beasts.
Another Air Bullet hit one, but because he couldn’t dodge in time, he was struck by a wind blade on his thigh again.
Just then, an even more powerful Air Bullet blasted towards him. Though Zhou Ming perceived it in advance, he still couldn’t completely avoid it. His left arm was directly hit, flesh torn and bloody.
‘It’s that Dust-rank Corpse Beast!’
While locked in fierce combat with Zhang Chuanlei, that wolf-type leader still found time to attack Zhou Ming.
“Are you okay?!” Zhang Chuanlei swept his tail-like appendage, sending the Corpse Beast near Zhou Ming flying, quickly moved closer to him, and glared intently at the Dust-rank Corpse Beast.
“Can we just deal with it first?!” Zhou Ming said through gritted teeth.
“Captain, I’ll go with you!”
“Good! Yue Liang, you handle the other Corpse Beasts!”
Zhang Chuanlei discarded his empty gun and charged fiercely at the Dust-rank Corpse Beast. Zhou Ming followed closely behind, firing Air Bullets as he ran, but all were deflected by the chaotic airflow around the beast.
Clenching his teeth, he charged forward as well, iron rod in hand.
Zhang Chuanlei’s tail-like appendage stabbed out wildly. The wolf-type Corpse Beast leaped to evade, opening its bloody maw.
Zhou Ming clearly perceived the surrounding airflow madly converging into its mouth.
“Captain, get out of the way!”
A massive Compressed Air Blast blasted from its mouth, howling as it shot straight at Zhang Chuanlei.
Zhang Chuanlei simply didn’t have time to dodge completely. He could only use his tail-like appendage to shield his body before being blasted away.
