It seemed like my rock-bottom luck was finally turning around in this moment. Seeing those undead’s stiff steps, a flash of inspiration suddenly struck my mind.
Right, I almost forgot I had these.
I reacted quickly, pulling several bottles of gray potion from my inventory and tossing them in different directions behind me.
Slime Viscous Potion
Required Level: 10
Effect: After use, leaves slime on the ground in a 4×4 yard area, reducing enemies’ movement speed by 50% when walking on it, with a chance to cause brief stun. Ineffective against elite or higher monsters. Effect weakened on players. Lasts 1 minute.
The slowing effect of this potion could rival Death Shadow, but what I valued was the stun component.
Epoch boasted the most realistic engine. For other races, this brief control effect might only limit some actions, but for skeleton-type monsters, it proved especially deadly.
It was like a reenactment of the scene from the open-pit mine earlier. Numerous undead stepped onto the viscous liquid on the ground and immediately slowed as if sinking into a quagmire.
Not only that—after getting coated in the gray slime, these low-intelligence undead instinctively struggled, spreading the stickiness to other parts of their bodies, even into their joints.
Clang-Clang.
The skeleton frames with arms and leg bones stuck together struggled onward, still trying to follow their original movement logic and step forward. This caused many undead to lose balance and topple over one after another.
In normal times, it might not matter much—at worst, they’d just demonstrate their impressive face-plant skills to their companions.
But in this crowded skeleton situation, those unsteady undead acted like the first domino in a chain, immediately triggering a successive series of reactions.
The commotion from behind was impossible to ignore. Even though I’d been keeping an eye on it, I couldn’t help but laugh at the scene unfolding before me.
Groups of undead toppled outward due to the slime, bumping into nearby companions, causing skeletons to clump and stick together in piles—like some uniquely artistic sculpture.
If they weren’t a bunch of mindless skeletons, maybe some unspeakable romantic tales would unfold among them.
And these clumped-up bone piles, often massive in size, would accidentally knock over innocent, unstained skeletons nearby, leading to a chaotic and hilarious spectacle.
But soon, I couldn’t laugh anymore—
Some outer undead, not originally aggroed, got knocked down and stood back up, only to turn their glowing red eyes toward me.
You guys got tripped by your own buddies—what does that have to do with me, hey!
As the slime’s duration ended, those undead brought even more companions into the revenge party. With no other choice, I used up several more slime viscous potions from my inventory.
Use slime potion → hinder undead movement → attract more undead → use more slime potions.
In this vicious cycle, after exhausting all the slime viscous potions in my inventory, the number of monsters trailing behind could truly be described as an undead sea.
Countless spells and arrows flew from afar, and I could only rely on instant recovery potions and various life-saving items to evade.
I even felt the impulse to switch back to thief stealth and abandon Satahia to fend for herself.
Good thing I’m always a Demon King who cares for his subordinates—I didn’t pull such a teammate-screwing move.
Or rather, just as that thought crossed my mind, good news came from Satahia up ahead.
“Demon King, there’s the entrance to a large building right in front of us.”
“Head there. Get ready to block it with a fire wall.”
In this critical moment, I didn’t overthink it and followed Satahia into the large building she mentioned.
Roaring flames erupted from the ground, instantly sealing off the wide arched gateway behind us.
Most creatures harbored an innate fear of fire, and these undead were no exception—or rather, their阴 cold nature made them fear brightness even more than others. They instinctively halted before the fire wall.
It seemed like we’d gained some peace, but I knew it was only temporary. If we didn’t find a way to shake off this undead aggro, the problem wouldn’t be solved.
With that in mind, I quickly surveyed our surroundings.
This was indeed a large building, as Satahia had said—just from the arched entrance nearby, one could tell. A tall glazed dome, gently curving annular colonnades, countless circular giant pillars supporting the entire structure.
The spot where Satahia and I stood was a courtyard entered through one of several entrances. From the tiered seating stands, I pieced it together—this should be the coliseum in the Mihri Ruins, still retaining its original structure and outline after long ages.
I wasn’t sure if this counted as good news, but the bad news was clear: there was no place for Satahia and me to hide.
“Demon King…”
Satahia’s voice came then. Following her gaze, I finally understood the saying that when you’re down on your luck, even rare game spawns show up just to steal your ore—
Inferior Undead Beastmaster: Level 22, HP 600/600.
Inferior Undead Terror Beast: Level 25, HP 800/800.
Inferior Undead Giant Hound: Level 25, HP 750/750.
The coliseum was dotted with numerous special undead. At that moment, one beast-like skeletal undead had spotted us and charged over, conveniently pulling nearby monsters along.
Right then, the fire wall behind us lost its effect. The countless undead outside, unhindered, surged toward the coliseum entrance. Even the wide arched gateway seemed minuscule before this undead sea.
Trapped with yanderes in front and chainsaws behind—it looked like we were in a dead end.
But not for me. After all, I hadn’t used my quick teleport scrolls, scare traps, or other self-preservation items yet—how could this be a dead end?
What’s more, I wasn’t planning to use those precious special items.
I stopped Satahia, who wanted to revert to her lord boss form. A golden magic circle bloomed beneath us, radiating dazzling light.
In the instant the light flared, five figures bathed in holy radiance quietly appeared—none other than Kai and the others from the monastery.
“Your Highness! Danger!”
“Bemira, you and Daisy block the entrance behind us.”
The trainee knight squad had just appeared when they sensed something was off. They immediately surrounded me, with Daisy and Bemira raising their great shields to block the coliseum entrance, forcibly holding back all the monsters in the passage.
Meanwhile, Kai and Bilis went all out against the undead beasts and beastmasters swarming from ahead, while Him chanted auxiliary divine spell incantations from the middle.
Satahia was a bit surprised but said nothing, assisting Kai and Bemira with the monsters at the entrance.
“Your Highness, where is this? Why does it feel like the holy light in my body is being suppressed?” Kai asked me while resisting the pressure transmitted through her holy shield.
They had plenty of questions, but clearly, the most pressing one at this moment was this crucial point.
I didn’t waste words. While dealing with the monsters in the coliseum, I briefly explained the situation to Kai and the others, handing them the giant’s immortality potions from my inventory.
“This is the coliseum in the Mihri Ruins. Your cleric and holy knight powers are being influenced by the demonic power left behind by Fasitu.”
Demonic power boosted Satahia and me, but for Kai and the others, it was a visible debuff.
From the damage taken and dealt, I could roughly calculate that this weakening reduced them from level 30 to around level 20 elites—essentially halving their strength.
