Leaning against the back of the carriage, Lorevil finally let out a sigh of relief and began to take in the street scenery of this world.
Gothic buildings with pointed roofs lined both sides of the street.
‘What is this, a magic world combined with the Middle Ages?’
Lorevil’s curious gaze shifted from the architecture to the pedestrians walking along the street.
There were not only Vampires with pointed ears like hers, but also elves, orcs, and even demons with pairs of goat horns. However, the vast majority were Vampires.
Recalling what she knew of Holy Blood City, this was a city governed by Vampires; the other races were merely subjects under their jurisdiction.
‘But this is good. At least I don’t have to worry about finding a job after graduation or struggling to make a living.’ Perhaps because she had been suppressed for too long in her previous life, such a thought surfaced in Lorevil’s mind, making her feel almost cheerful.
She had long since grown weary of the hyper-competitive lifestyle of her past life—civil service exams, postgraduate entrance exams, and the desperate hunt for work. Who could have imagined that a single position at a small company would attract more than ten college student applicants? Their resumes would boast one year of competition experience and two years of internships, even though college only lasted four years.
Furthermore, she had transmigrated into a young Vampire noble girl with a gentle, beautiful human girlfriend. Although there was a dangerous black-and-white game interface hovering over her head, this start… didn’t seem too bad, right?
Besides, in her memories, Mahina was truly a pitiable girl. Her parents had passed away, yet she possessed a resilient character, which made Lorevil feel a deep sense of compassion for her.
Consequently, the panic and unease Lorevil felt upon her arrival were slowly replaced by an indescribable surge of excitement.
“We have arrived at Holy Blood Academy, Lady Lorevil.”
Before Lorevil could think further, the carriage wheels rolled over the flagstone path and soon came to a halt in front of the main gates of Holy Blood Academy.
Through a gap in the curtains, Lorevil saw an imposing building rising from the ground. Inside was a well-arranged layout of spires and cloisters. While it did not resemble a palace, it possessed the solemnity and grandeur of a top-tier noble academy, casting its elegant shadow over the three surrounding noble districts.
The words “Holy Blood Academy” were engraved in large letters upon the towering main gate.
Several tall Vampires were entering one after another, wearing uniform black outfits and exuding an air of noble elegance. They appeared to be the noble students of the academy.
Seeing this, Lorevil spoke to her maid and stepped out of the carriage according to etiquette.
It seemed that even after transmigrating, she could not escape the fate of being a student. Lorevil sighed and followed the route in her memory toward the academy’s interior. A few Vampires greeted her along the way, and she responded to each one.
“Good morning, Lady Lorevil!”
“Morning.”
“Why didn’t you show up to the hunting assembly yesterday? It was such a shame. Teacher Catherine from Class Three almost got into a fight with a student…”
“Something came up unexpectedly. My apologies.”
Lorevil responded using the original owner’s memories, trying her best not to reveal any flaws.
She reached the classroom labeled “Second Year, Class Two.”
Just as Lorevil sat down in a seat by the window, a cute girl with a high ponytail leaned over.
“Lorevil, why did you run off halfway through yesterday? We agreed to go to the blood hunting grounds together.”
Information about the blood hunting grounds surfaced in Lorevil’s mind.
The blood hunting grounds were where Rank 1 and Rank 2 Vampire students increased their strength. The grounds were filled with Rank 1 and Rank 2 blood beasts captured from rifts by the academy’s teachers, allowing Vampires who had not yet reached Rank 3 to hone their Battle Arts.
Battle Arts were the practical combat techniques that Vampires relied on for survival.
The body of a sufficiently powerful Vampire was a vessel for bloodline energy, and Battle Arts allowed that energy to extend to every part of the body. Simply put, Battle Arts and strength were strictly linked.
“Me? I was busy.”
Lorevil shook the cluttered memories from her head and answered cautiously.
Simultaneously, the corresponding information immediately jumped into her mind. Fini was a good friend of the original owner. She was also a Vampire with a straightforward personality and was quite easy to get along with.
“Did you go looking for prey again? Last time you said you were going to the hunting grounds, you stood me up then, too,” Fini said with a grin.
“You seem to know me very well.”
Lorevil’s cheeks flushed slightly. Thinking of Mahina, whom she had met this morning, a hint of worry flashed in her dark red eyes.
It was hard for Lorevil to forget the human girl she had been so intimate with—those shimmering eyes and the beauty mark at the corner of her eye. She just didn’t know if Mahina’s emotions would spiral out of control after she left. She also didn’t know if the black-and-white game health bar above the girl’s head would bring her any danger…
“Well, we are best friends, aren’t we?”
Fini patted her shoulder with an “I understand you” expression. Fini’s movement pulled the distracted Lorevil back to reality.
Lorevil: “…”
Lorevil did not intend to cut off the original owner’s social connections, so she engaged in some idle chatter. At the same time, she quickly adapted to the role.
While they were talking, the bell for class rang.
A middle-aged Vampire wearing a black robe and gold-rimmed glasses walked in. The aura he emitted was not weak, giving Lorevil the impression that he was not someone to be trifled with. This was Jerwen, their level mentor and homeroom teacher.
Lorevil had thought the lectures at Holy Blood Academy would be about boring Vampire precepts, but Jerwen spoke about how the emotions of the human being fed upon would affect the sweetness of the blood. Additionally, the key points highlighted on the blackboard included the blood composition of different body parts of succubi and elf girls…
This was novel knowledge she had never encountered before, and Lorevil listened with great interest. Meanwhile, Fini, who was beside her, began to yawn.
When the lecture ended, Master Jerwen was in no hurry to leave. Instead, he took out a stack of mission scrolls and placed them on the podium.
“These are this week’s practice missions. Each of you will draw one. Your completion status will be included in your final grades.”
The scrolls contained missions assigned to each individual. He told Lorevil and the others to come up and draw them. The students immediately swarmed forward to grab their scrolls.
“This is terrible!”
Fini was the first to rush back. She had drawn a manual labor mission, and her expression was pained. “What did you get? I have to go to the academy forest and dig up thirty blood mushrooms every day.”
Blood mushrooms were named for their blood-red color. They were hidden under piles of decaying leaves in the forest and were favorites of some blood beasts. They were a rare delicacy when used in stews, but they were relatively troublesome to collect.
“Me?”
Lorevil unrolled her scroll and scanned it without hiding anything. “I’m taking over a request to investigate the situation at Madam Sharon’s house. It lasts for three days. It’s basically protecting the Madam.”
“Madam Sharon?”
“Is there a problem?” Lorevil nodded, slightly confused.
“She’s a famous beauty among Vampires. Furthermore, she’s the widow of the late Duchess. The Duchess passed away a few years ago. Besides that, Madam Sharon herself is a Rank 4 Vampire. Why would they let a Rank 2 rookie like you protect her?” Fini said, taking a sharp breath.
‘The widow of the late Duchess? It seems same-sex marriage is also common among Vampires.’
However, after hearing Fini’s explanation, Lorevil also found it strange. Why would Master Jerwen give her such an unrelated practice mission?
“How should I know? Maybe the teacher thinks I need the exercise. The teacher handed these out; do you want to trade?” Lorevil guessed.
“No way. Yours looks even harder than mine. I’ve heard Madam Sharon has a cold personality. If you fail to complete it, it will affect our daily grades,” Fini rejected the idea without a second thought. “Besides, don’t you like beauties? A stunner like Madam Sharon is someone many Vampire nobles want to meet but never get the chance. This is a godsend for you!”
“When did I ever like beauties?” Lorevil glanced at Fini, puzzled.
“Lorevil, you already have a fiancée, but you’re the most frequent visitor to Catherine in this class, aren’t you?”
Fini spoke as if she had heard a hilarious joke.
Catherine was a new teacher at Holy Blood Academy. It was said she had a deep background, being related to a certain Vampire Grand Duke. Her appearance was stunning, with long silver hair and ice-blue eyes, and she had many young Vampire suitors.
The most persistent of them was Lorevil, who already had a fiancée.
Lorevil’s sexual orientation was toward women. Out of necessity, her family had found a fiancée for her, who was currently at home waiting for her.
Vampire advancement required blood crystals to provide energy, and these were quite expensive; a single one could equal half a year’s expenses for an ordinary noble.
However, in the past, Lorevil often went to the office to find Catherine, and she would bring many expensive blood crystals used for advancement. In Fini’s eyes, she was simply a sucker. The title of “the number one spendthrift scumbag” had long been hung over Lorevil’s head, yet the girl herself seemed unaware of it.
As the memories returned, Lorevil’s expression instantly became colorful. She had a fiancée, had already provoked Mahina, and was even pursuing Catherine—wasn’t that just cheating?
Lorevil’s pretty face turned beet red. Just thinking about it made her cringe enough to dig out a three-bedroom apartment with her toes. She didn’t have the original owner’s unscrupulous “scumbag” mindset. Her head felt like it was growing larger just wondering how to face that fiancée when she went back.
“Whatever, it’s your business. I won’t say any more!” Fini said upon seeing her reaction, assuming Lorevil was angry out of embarrassment.
“…”
Lorevil massaged her temples.
Afterward, Lorevil followed the noble Vampires who wanted to complete their practice missions early and left the classroom, parting ways with Fini.
The road was straight. Lorevil walked quickly along the side of the path. Although she was a girl, she was already a Rank 2 Vampire, so her physical strength was much better than that of an average adult human or an ordinary Vampire.
Lorevil thought as she walked. The mission Master Jerwen had assigned in the scroll had to be completed, as it was related to the final exam results. It was just like how “participation points” in college involved daily check-ins and not skipping class, making up a high percentage of the grade—nearly 50%. Since this practice session would take up half of that grade, Lorevil naturally wanted to get full marks. She wanted to avoid the risk of failing if her review didn’t go well during finals week.
Therefore, Lorevil decided to head to Madam Sharon’s house first.
After exiting the main gates, Lorevil followed the map marked on her scroll and instructed her maid to take the carriage to the designated address. The location was in the heart of Holy Blood City.
The Vampire noble district.
All along the way, the streets of the noble district were planted with blood-red spider lilies. Even Lorevil could see that the Vampires here were more densely packed and the commercial exchanges were more prosperous.
Having reached the designated location and parked the carriage, Lorevil knocked on the door of an exquisite Gothic villa.
The door soon opened.
A beautiful woman in a black lace dress stood behind the door. Her features were elegant, and she looked to be about 27 or 28 years old.
Lorevil was stunned. It wasn’t that she hadn’t seen beautiful women before, but she had truly never seen such a perfect beauty as this.
The woman’s jet-black hair was pulled up into an exquisite bun, revealing a long, fair neck. Her eyes and brows carried a sort of tenderness and charm that had been refined by time. Hidden beneath the lace dress was a perfect figure with mature grace…
The most captivating part was those dark red eyes, which were as gentle as a pool of water. They seemed to draw in all the surrounding beauty, making Lorevil unable to stop herself from sinking into the reflection within the Madam’s eyes.
This was the Madam Sharon that Fini had spoken of, the subject of her practice mission.
