Chapter 2 : Being a Dog Is Really Difficult (2/2) 

Fortunately, it wasn’t too much. 

She pushed the wet part toward the wall to hide it—problem solved.

When Han Shuangshuang came out of the bathroom, she saw that the food and water were gone, but the area remained clean. 

Xiao Bai lay on the old clothes, seemingly asleep.

She was delighted. 

Squatting in front of Xiao Bai, she said, “Good night,” before turning off the lights and going to bed.

However, after the lights went out, Xiao Man opened her eyes. 

She couldn’t sleep.

Her life had taken an unexpected and bizarre turn. 

What should she do?

Turning into a dog was such an absurd situation that she didn’t even know where to begin figuring things out.

Lost in thought, she spent the whole night wide awake.

At dawn, Han Shuangshuang’s alarm rang. 

She grumbled but got up. 

After freshening up in the bathroom, she looked much more awake.

Seeing Xiao Bai watching her, she suddenly remembered something. 

She quickly walked over and lifted the dog to check its underside.

Xiao Man: “……”

Han Shuangshuang let out a sigh of relief. 

“Good thing you didn’t pee on my clothes.”

Xiao Man: “……” 

Thanks, but I’d rather not pee just anywhere.

“Do you know how to use the toilet?”

Xiao Man: “…..”

She expressionlessly nodded.

Han Shuangshuang was slightly skeptical. 

“Really? Can you show me right now?”

Xiao Man: …

What kind of humiliating play was this?! 

Being a dog was really tough!

She had to hypnotize herself with “I’m just a dog, just a dog” before she could walk toward the toilet and jump onto it.

Han Shuangshuang: “Wait, let me grab my phone and record a video!”

Xiao Man’s fur immediately stood on end.

As soon as Han Shuangshuang ran out to get her phone, Xiao Man leaped down from the toilet, pushed the door shut, and jumped up to lock it with a click.

Luckily, the bathroom door handle was a round one, which meant that pressing the lock button was enough to secure the door.

The only problem was that her dog paws couldn’t turn the knob to unlock it.

Xiao Man stared at the doorknob for a moment before turning around to handle her business on the toilet.

Whatever, was it a dog’s fault for locking itself in the bathroom? 

Of course not. 

Dogs weren’t to blame—this was something the owner had to deal with!

While Xiao Man was comfortably dealing with her biological needs, Han Shuangshuang had already discovered that the bathroom door was locked from the inside. 

She panicked, knocked on the door a few times, and realizing it wouldn’t open, finally remembered she had a key for the bathroom.

She rummaged through her things in a hurry, and by the time she found the key and opened the door, her little Bai was obediently squatting next to the toilet—while the toilet was flushing.

Han Shuangshuang: “…………!”

Her dog could even use the toilet by itself?!

After her initial shock, she hesitated. 

“Xiao Bai, did you lock the door on purpose just now?”

Xiao Man innocently gazed up at the ceiling. 

Wow, this ceiling was so… ceiling-y.

Han Shuangshuang squinted at Xiao Bai, finding her suspicious. 

Given how smart Xiao Bai was, it wouldn’t be surprising if she had locked the door intentionally.

But another phone alarm rang, and Han Shuangshuang checked the time. 

She didn’t have time to dwell on it—she had to get ready. 

While packing up, she said to Xiao Bai, “Be good and stay home today. I have to visit Sister Man before work. I’ll take you out to play when I get back tonight.”

She poured some dog food into a bowl. 

“If you get hungry, eat this.”

But before she could finish, Xiao Man placed a paw on her hand.

Han Shuangshuang looked at her, puzzled.

Xiao Man let out a small bark and pointed at the door.

Han Shuangshuang hesitated. 

“You want to go out with me?”

Xiao Man nodded.

Han Shuangshuang quickly refused. 

“You definitely can’t go to my office, and the hospital won’t allow dogs either! Just stay home, I’ll be back soon!”

She tried to leave, but Xiao Man bit the hem of her pants and refused to let go.

In the end, Han Shuangshuang gave in. 

She grabbed a larger backpack, stuffed Xiao Man inside, left the zipper slightly open for ventilation, and sternly reminded her to stay quiet.

The hospital where Xiao Man had been treated wasn’t far, so Han Shuangshuang rented a shared bicycle and rode there.

Last night, after being admitted to the ER, Xiao Man had undergone multiple tests. 

Although she remained unconscious, her vitals were stable, and nothing serious had been found. 

By morning, she had been transferred to neurosurgery—after all, the only notable injury was a minor bump on the forehead.

Since she arrived early, Han Shuangshuang found her way to the neurosurgery inpatient ward. 

But when she asked about Xiao Man at the nurse’s station, she was handed a pile of hospital bills.

Even though she had accompanied Xiao Man to the hospital as a colleague, she knew nothing about her family situation. 

No relatives had been contacted, and no payment had been made. 

The hospital had gone ahead with the treatment first, but now they were demanding the fees.

Han Shuangshuang swallowed nervously as she looked at the bill. 

Even after insurance, the remaining balance was several thousand yuan.

Even if she wanted to help cover the cost, she simply didn’t have the money.

The nurse urged her to contact Xiao Man’s family quickly, so Han Shuangshuang hurried to the ward.

Xiao Man was in a three-person room. 

The other two beds had patients with family members by their sides. 

Only Xiao Man lay alone, hooked up to monitoring equipment, looking pitiful.

Han Shuangshuang was nervous, afraid that the dog in her bag would make noise. 

She carefully placed the bag on the floor by the bed and whispered, “Xiao Bai, be good. If we get caught, we’ll be kicked out.”

She wasn’t sure if Xiao Bai understood her, but the next moment, a small paw reached out through the zipper gap and gently waved, as if to say, “Got it.”

Han Shuangshuang sighed in relief but couldn’t shake her amazement. 

Xiao Bai was so smart that it felt surreal.

She sat down beside the bed and spoke to the unconscious Xiao Man, “Sister Man, I need to find your family. I have to check your things.”

Last night, she had found Xiao Man’s insurance card in her small bag but hadn’t dared to search further. 

There was no record of Xiao Man’s family in the company database, and even after holding onto her phone all night, no relatives had called. 

Now, she had no choice but to look for any clues herself.

As Han Shuangshuang searched through the small bag, a thin dog paw slowly stretched out from the backpack. 

It quietly groped its way onto the hospital bed and eventually landed on the cool back of the unconscious Xiao Man’s hand.

The sensation of touching her own body as a dog was bizarre.

She held the hand for a few seconds, but nothing happened. 

Disappointed, Xiao Man withdrew her paw.

So physical contact wasn’t the key to switching back.

She had suspected as much—she hadn’t touched a dog before losing consciousness. 

She had only been running away from one when she hit the wall and blacked out. 

But with no other clues, she had no choice but to try.

The sound of rummaging continued beside her. 

Xiao Man knew Han Shuangshuang was looking for her family’s contact information, but she also knew it was a futile effort.

After all… she might as well be an orphan.
