“Ugh—”
Vivian’s head made close contact with the floor as she was tackled.
She clutched her head and let out a muffled groan.
Nolan’s heart tightened, and he quickly looked down to check on the girl in his arms. After confirming that Vivian was not seriously injured, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Then, he stood up and turned around, locking his gaze onto the rude guest who had destroyed the cathedral.
A bloated body… a giant mouth on its belly…
Combining these two distinctive characteristics with his experience fighting demons multiple times in his past life, there was no doubt. This was a Gluttony Great Demon!
They were a core force under the Command of the Demon God of Gluttony. These evil creatures were born when the souls of ogres fell into hell and settled into the infernal soil. They were eternally hungry and never satisfied. This kind of demon would try to swallow everything it could fit into its mouth, even itself…
Nolan furrowed his brows, his expression solemn. Holy light flashed in his hand, condensing into an energy longsword out of thin air. As a Saint Knight, it was impossible for him to allow a demon to wreak havoc in this city before his eyes.
Because he was attending a wedding, Nolan was not wearing armor, nor had he brought his personal sword. However, he had killed many of these demons on the battlefield in his previous life. Therefore, dealing with this troublemaker would be more than enough with just this temporarily summoned longsword.
Nolan stepped forward, approaching the demon pace by pace.
The Gluttony Great Demon paid no attention to Nolan’s approach. Instead, it reached out its massive hand toward the high altar in the center of the cathedral. Its thick arm grabbed a marble angel statue from the platform and stuffed the entire thing into the giant mouth on its belly.
*crunch crunch*
Low, terrifying chewing sounds echoed through the ruins.
At that moment, Nolan’s footsteps faltered, and his expression became complicated. He suddenly realized something. Currently, he did not seem to have the power to defeat this demon.
He had only been reincarnated for a few months. Right now, he was a fledgling knight who had just left his family, not the battle-hardened warrior from his past life.
‘So… I might die…’
*gulp*
The demon swallowed the statue whole, and the flames behind it burned even more intensely.
‘Am I afraid?’
Nolan’s hand trembled as he gripped the sword of light.
‘Am I afraid that my second life will be wasted just like this?’
The demon’s bloodshot eyes caught sight of the knight in the cathedral. To it, fresh flesh and blood were clearly more attractive. It stepped its heavy legs over the collapsed stone wall and walked toward Nolan.
A scorching wave of air hit him, but Nolan remained standing where he was.
‘I’ve already died once…’
‘How could I be worse in this life than I was in my last!’
In an instant, Nolan’s mind cleared. His eyes became resolute, and the holy light on his longsword shone brilliantly. His aura was far stronger than before. Without a shred of fear, he faced the demon and took a heavy step forward.
His short, light-blond hair drifted slightly, shimmering with tiny golden sparks. The Protection of Light manifested; he was practicing the virtues and oaths of a Saint Knight. In that moment, his power increased!
“Goodbye, Vivian…” Nolan whispered softly, bidding farewell to his new bride.
‘I really didn’t expect to have to say goodbye right after getting married…’
Just as he was about to turn his head, he felt a soft sensation against his back. Vivian hugged him from behind, her arms circling his neck as she buried her head in his shoulder.
Nolan gave a light chuckle, a trace of sweetness welling up in his heart. Being loved always brought about a few happy troubles. But now was not the time for romance. He reached back, intending to pull the clinging Vivian off him.
Then, an unexpected event occurred.
A lightning-like sting suddenly shot from his neck!
The strength in his entire body seemed to be suddenly drained away, making it difficult for him to maintain his balance. His feet stumbled, and he collapsed into a half-kneeling position on the ground.
Nolan quickly raised his hand to cover his neck, trying to prevent excessive blood loss from causing further ill effects. Then, he whipped his head around, his face a mix of confusion and shock as he looked at Vivian.
For some reason, Vivian had bitten him hard when she hugged him. The teeth marks on his neck were clearly visible, and blood was sizzling as it seeped out.
“Vivian, you!?”
Vivian’s hair tie had fallen off due to her sudden movement, and her long black hair hung loosely over her shoulders. The kind and gentle smile on her face had faded, replaced by an indifferent calmness.
Two fangs peeked from the corners of her mouth as she raised her hand to wipe away the residual blood.
“You’re in the way.”
Vivian pursed her lips, savoring the taste of the warm, sweet blood. This was definitely the most satisfying meal she had eaten in months. Her fangs had pierced the carotid artery, and the blood had pulsed out in bursts. As the liquid slid down her throat and into her stomach, a sense of warmth spread throughout her entire body.
Vivian’s nearly lifeless cells were greeted with nectar once again, bursting with surging, overwhelming power. She raised her hand and clenched her fist. The air let out a low, muffled explosion. The long-lost feeling of fullness and the return of her strength brought her a surge of satisfaction.
Vivian walked straight toward the demon.
“Roar!”
The demon let out a low growl, seemingly sensing the threat this girl posed to it.
“You can even hiss?” Vivian looked up and said calmly. “Don’t be in such a hurry. It’s your turn now.”
With that, Vivian spread her legs and raised her right fist, taking a combat stance.
Air currents swirled around her, whipping up her long black hair and her white skirt. She lowered her center of gravity and arched her back slightly. Her right fist gathered power, condensing a ball of purple energy. The rubble on the ground was lifted by an invisible force, hovering in mid-air.
Vivian’s left palm was held flat in front of her, fingers slightly curved.
*bam!*
Vivian’s legs tensed with power. The floor beneath her shattered, and root-like cracks spread outward.
*boom!*
Vivian’s right fist suddenly punched out.
Her figure transformed into a blinding flash of purple light. At a speed nearly equal to a cannonball leaving its barrel, she streaked from the cathedral into the night sky. The girl’s figure vanished, leaving nothing but a deep crater in her place!
A sound like a thunderclap rang in Nolan’s ears, deafening him. The resulting shockwave carried rubble that slapped against his face, leaving his handsome features covered in dust and grime.
The brilliant purple light finally plunged into the thick clouds in the sky. After a surge of motion, a hole was actually blasted through the cloud layer! The moon, hidden deep behind the clouds, finally showed its face.
The clear moonlight passed through a massive hole in the Gluttony Great Demon’s belly, shining onto Nolan’s face—his eyes were wide, filled with localized shock.
The Gluttony Great Demon also opened its bloodshot eyes and glanced at the huge hole in its stomach. Its walnut-sized brain didn’t seem to comprehend what had happened.
“Raaargh…”
The demon’s body swayed a few times before it let out a wail. It then collapsed onto the ruined walls of the cathedral, kicking up a cloud of dust that filled the air.
A glowing trail of purple energy remained in mid-air. This demon, which even a reincarnated Saint Knight found troublesome, had been punched straight through by Vivian.
While Nolan was still in a daze, Vivian used some unknown method to return to the crater she had stepped into. The long sleeve of her wedding dress on her right arm had been shredded by the fierce winds of her punch, revealing her smooth, fair skin.
She leaned over to pick up her hair tie from the ground. She tucked a few stray strands of hair behind her ear and used the tie to gather her loose hair, skillfully tying it into a low ponytail.
Before Vivian’s eyes, a line of text flickered on an invisible panel.
[Status Window]
Name: Vivian Steel
Race: Vampire
Satiety: 122/150
Level: 38 (3681/5000)
**[Gluttony Great Demon defeated, Experience Points +900]**
Vivian had originally been an ordinary male university student from Earth. He had died of an accidental electric shock while coding at his computer. After crossing over to this world, he became a vampire girl.
She had only discovered this panel after crossing over, and it gave her a special ability. While others needed years of physical training, skill refinement, or bitter meditation to increase their strength, she only needed to defeat opponents and accumulate experience points to level up.
The only drawback was the limitation of Satiety. Vivian needed to constantly consume blood to maintain her bodily functions. Otherwise, she was nothing but a weakling…
Her original body had been sealed in a coffin, like a piece of aged meat that had been air-dried for countless years. When Vivian first crossed over, the body already had thirty-some levels and unexpectedly high physical stats. She had punched the coffin lid off, crawled out of the earth, and wandered all the way to Marne City.
She intended to settle down here. However, in the Valorian Kingdom, non-human races like her had no residency rights. Vivian could only hide in the chaotic Black Rat Street.
She wasn’t like most college students who yearned for poetry, distant lands, or grand adventures. She just wanted to live a good life…
On normal days, Vivian relied on her innate blood magic to treat others’ injuries in exchange for payment. Then, she would go to the market to buy a few gulps of poultry or livestock blood. She relied entirely on animal blood to fill her stomach.
