It’s not hard for Lilith to imagine what would happen if the current Saintess, Seraphiel, personally revealed their past… and everything that followed.
Just as Seraphiel understands Lilith, Lilith knows this Saintess all too well.
When this girl goes crazy, there’s nothing she wouldn’t dare to do…
She’d lock herself in her room and refuse to leave, no matter how much Lilith pleaded—unless her jealousy flared up, and she’d rush out to confront some other girl.
What a headache…
Facing a Lilith who quickly surrendered, Seraphiel merely shook her head with a gentle, fake smile.
“Don’t back down so fast. Weren’t you acting all tough just a moment ago? Won’t you listen carefully to what I’m thinking?”
Lilith shrank back, looking pitiful as she mumbled, “Uh… I don’t really want to know, so please don’t say it… I’ll do whatever you want, okay?”
“No way. To keep you from slacking off or playing tricks, I need to make things clear upfront!”
Seraphiel circled around the seemingly aggrieved Lilith, as if trapping the small girl within the circle she paced out with her steps.
Now, Seraphiel towered over Lilith in height… and as Lilith glanced at the massive, imposing “evil” bouncing before her—something she’d played with since childhood—she felt an overwhelming sense of pressure.
It was as if she, a tiny cart, was about to be crushed by a massive truck!
“First off, I have no attachment to the position or power of being a Saintess… There’s surely someone more suited to bear this responsibility. After all, I only reached this position so that one day, when we reunited, I could keep you by my side!”
“…”
“Publicly confessing my ‘impure’ past might be extreme… but Lilith, as the vampire who defiled the Saintess, you’d surely be hated by even more people.”
“…”
“Don’t let my appearance fool you—I’m still admired and revered by many.”
“…”
“Once I announce your portrait and deeds, those fanatical fans of mine… they’ll probably hunt you down relentlessly as the villain who defiled their Saintess, no matter where you flee.”
“…”
“Of course, I know they wouldn’t be able to harm you. But with your reputation as a heartbreaker spread across the world… it’ll probably make it much harder for you to charm other girls in the future. And then, I’ll step down as Saintess and chase you across the world.”
What a vicious heart, Lilith thought, her lips twitching.
Who could’ve guessed that beneath the Saintess’s harmless exterior lurked such a wicked, twisted mind?
“…Do you really spend your days thinking about this instead of doing your job as a Saintess?” Lilith asked, exasperated.
“Of course not. In the Church of the Creator’s annual evaluations, I’m the most popular border-appointed Chosen One,” Seraphiel said proudly.
“I’m not the weak, powerless girl I used to be! I’ve done an excellent job as Saintess.”
“But… compared to you, the position and responsibilities of a Saintess mean nothing.”
“Lilith, do you remember that day?”
“I was fourteen… forced by my family into an arranged marriage with a nobleman in his fifties.”
“On the way to the marriage, passing by Lake Kurman… someone broke a taboo, and we were all dragged into a bottomless underwater city.”
“In the end… I was the only one who survived down there… and by some miracle, you saved me.”
“So… you are my everything.”
“You gave me, who had abandoned my family name and everything else, a new life.”
“Please… don’t leave me again, okay?”
Seraphiel gently lifted Lilith’s face, her blue eyes locking onto Lilith’s blood-red pupils.
The intense, barely restrained love shimmering in those blue depths made Lilith feel almost suffocated.
Of course, Lilith hadn’t forgotten the events from ten years ago.
But she couldn’t help thinking that if the Church deemed this lovestruck girl the finest Saintess, it must be utterly doomed.
Oh well… it’s just a century or so.
If Seraphiel wants to keep her around, so be it…
It wasn’t that Lilith truly feared Seraphiel’s threats.
Even if rumors did affect her ability to charm other girls, in the grand scheme of her long life, it’d be a mere fleeting moment.
In an era where history itself was often twisted and tainted, how long could gossip about a Saintess and a vampire really last?
But if Seraphiel truly chased her across the world for decades, Lilith worried it might hold her back.
After all, they’d shared a bed once.
There was no need to completely burn bridges and go all-out against her.
At most, staying by Seraphiel’s side would mean some restrictions on her love life and being tied down… until the Saintess’s desires fully faded.
Talk about growing wings… If Seraphiel had been this bold years ago, Lilith wouldn’t have had to drag her to a convent for “reformation.”
Then again, Lilith wasn’t exactly losing out here.
What else could she do?
She couldn’t actually resort to violence against Seraphiel.
Even if she wanted to vent her frustrations roughly… that’d have to wait until Seraphiel was back in the convent.
Life is like a strong alkali: if you can’t fight it, you might as well enjoy it.
The Saintess’s soft rice!
Lilith gritted her teeth and swallowed it down!
“Ahem, no personal matters during work hours,” Lilith coughed lightly.
After Seraphiel’s antics, she’d nearly forgotten why she came here in the first place.
“Anyway, I’m not running away. I’ll definitely wait for you to come back… But what’s your plan as Saintess for the vampire issue in the city? I’ve gathered plenty of info. Want to arrange for the Inquisition to investigate later?”
“What do you mean, my plan? It’s your plan now,” Seraphiel replied.
She didn’t mind Lilith’s obvious attempt to change the subject.
Having secured Lilith’s presence, it was time for the Saintess to handle official duties.
“Huh?”
ilith tilted her head in confusion.
“Nothing. I’m busy with meetings thousands of miles away, discussing with saints and legends worldwide on how to reinforce the Ideal Kingdom’s seal. I really don’t have the energy to remotely handle things here,” Seraphiel said, shaking her head helplessly.
“With the Ideal Kingdom’s interference disrupting long-distance communication, if a conflict arises, I won’t be able to deal with sudden issues from afar… Otherwise, I wouldn’t have taken so long to come find you.”
“So, I’m leaving the convent’s matters to you.”
“I trust you’ll handle it well, Lilith.”
“I’ll arrange for you to have the title of Central Church Inspector to command the Inquisition. The Pope happens to be here, so I’ll just inform him.”
“Hold on a second!” Lilith loudly protested Seraphiel’s abuse of authority.
“Wasn’t I just supposed to live off you? Why are you dumping this mess on me? Doesn’t the Saintess’s convent have anyone else in charge? I just want to be a carefree JK at school!”
“I have my reasons,” Seraphiel replied.
“Besides, didn’t you tell me years ago not to be a useless shut-in? I’m supporting you, not so you can laze around all day!”
“…”
A boomerang from ten years ago suddenly smashed into Lilith’s head.
The little vampire princess, who just wanted to coast and live off soft rice, was fuming.
