After having breakfast at the Madam’s house, Lorevil asked Madam Sharon to request a day off from Master Jerwen on her behalf. At the same time, she obtained the address of that Human restaurant in the noble district from her.
Boarding the carriage, Lorevil took a short trip around the noble district until she spotted a café with a decent crowd.
Even in the morning, people came from all over to taste the rich coffee.
‘Didn’t the Madam say it was a restaurant?’ Lorevil wondered. ‘Why is it a café?’
Perhaps the Madam’s memory was failing her, or she had simply forgotten. Lorevil didn’t give it much more thought.
In fact, Madam Sharon had selected two or three potential workplaces for Lorevil to choose from. However, some locations were too remote, so the one she provided this morning was a café that met all the requirements and was conveniently located.
Lorevil pushed the door open and entered. She saw a beautiful woman, roughly the same age as Madam Sharon, sitting at the front desk.
“Are you Lorevil?”
“Good morning, Madame Audrey.”
The beautiful woman was Audrey, the owner of the café. She was a close friend of Madam Sharon.
“Would you like a cup of foreign coffee? I just received a batch of coffee from the Orleans region. How about I treat you to a cup?”
Lorevil shook her head.
Since she didn’t have a formal job yet, she had never needed to work overtime or stay up all night, so she wasn’t particularly fond of coffee. Since arriving here, the thing she drank most was blood wine.
“Madam Sharon already told you everything, so I’ll keep it simple. You’re hiring here, right?”
Madame Audrey couldn’t help but show a bit of pride.
Coffee was not very popular among the Vampire race. However, after her personal adjustments, she had made many blends that were compatible with the Vampire body, allowing them to taste unique flavors.
“Yes, and thanks to Sharon’s help, business is quite good. We have Human merchants and Vampire nobles, so the foot traffic is excellent. I’ve hired four servers, and they’ve all been saying they’re exhausted lately. But the wages here are very high,” Madame Audrey said playfully.
Madame Audrey’s café was very inclusive. Lorevil noticed some Human servers, and their looks were quite high.
“In our shop, being good-looking is the most basic requirement. I wonder about the child Lorevil recommended,” Madame Audrey said with a laugh, covering her mouth.
“Don’t worry, Madam. Setting aside everything else, Mahina’s appearance will definitely meet your standards,” Lorevil said confidently, recalling the girl’s lovely and pitiful expression from their first meeting.
“Since you say so, Lorevil, I’m actually looking forward to it. When can she come for an interview?” Madame Audrey asked.
“One moment. I didn’t bring her with me this time. I’ll bring her over shortly,” Lorevil said apologetically.
She had come alone to check out the storefront first. The incident at Mahina’s workshop had made her cautious.
Lorevil walked back to her carriage and headed toward the apartment where Mahina lived.
Sitting in the carriage, Lorevil pondered. As a Vampire noble, her original self knew many minor nobles, and her family’s influence was arguably equal to or even higher than Madam Sharon’s.
If nothing else, if the original owner had even considered finding Mahina a better shop to work in, Mahina wouldn’t have been bullied in that workshop for so long. After all, the original Lorevil had been the one to rescue Mahina from the hands of local thugs in the first place.
‘Damn it,’ Lorevil thought, getting more annoyed the more she reflected on it. ‘The original host really was a scumbag.’
Mahina had mentioned more than once that the female workers at the workshop bullied her. At that time, the original Lorevil hadn’t even thought about solving Mahina’s problems; she had just lazily handed over some money to brush her off.
She had never considered using her family’s power to find her a decent, safe job. This was because, at the time, Lorevil didn’t even care about her own family’s affairs, choosing to ignore them entirely.
Furthermore, if it weren’t for the current her, the original scumbag Lorevil would likely have abandoned Mahina after taking her body. No matter how gentle the initial comfort had been, she would have been cold and heartless afterward. She might have even left a pleading Mahina behind to pursue her dream goddess, Catherine.
‘Honestly, why do scumbags like that have so many gentle and beautiful girls chasing them, while a “perfect man” like me was a total loner before I transmigrated?’
The carriage soon arrived at the apartment building where Mahina lived.
‘The original really wasted Mahina’s sincerity,’ Lorevil cursed internally as she pushed open the carriage door. She walked to Mahina’s door and knocked.
A moment later, there was movement inside, followed by the sound of Mahina’s hurried footsteps.
Mahina’s small head peeked out from behind the door, her face still carrying a trace of sleepiness. When she saw it was the Lorevil she had been longing for, her eyes lit up.
“Lorevil?”
Lorevil smiled. “I found you a job. It’s at a café in the noble district. The environment is great, and the pay is high. I’m taking you there for an interview today. As long as the owner is satisfied, you can start working immediately.”
“A café?” Mahina was stunned. “I… I can work in the noble district? In a place like a café?”
In her mind, jobs in the noble district were reserved for Vampires or Humans with special status. An ordinary Human girl like her usually had no chance of working there.
“Don’t worry about being a bother to me. Even without my help, you would pass the interview,” Lorevil explained.
She didn’t want Mahina to feel too much of a psychological burden.
“Mhm.” Mahina felt a warmth in her heart. She knew very well how important this job was for her.
“Then, I’ll take you for the interview,” Lorevil said with a smile.
Mahina changed into clean clothes, closed her door, and happily followed behind Lorevil.
Once they were seated in Lorevil’s carriage, Mahina shyly pulled at the corner of Lorevil’s sleeve.
“Are there any requirements for the interview?”
“Of course there are. In fact, there are quite a lot,” Lorevil said, her face becoming deliberately stern and serious as she watched Mahina tighten her grip on her skirt in nervousness.
“Ah, what should I do then?” Mahina asked, her face full of panic.
“I’m just teasing you. There’s only one requirement: you have to be pretty,” Lorevil laughed. “Does Mahina think she isn’t pretty enough? That she won’t meet the owner’s standards?”
Lorevil couldn’t help but chuckle as she reached out and ruffled Mahina’s hair.
Mahina’s cheeks instantly flushed crimson, but the corners of her mouth couldn’t help but quirk upward. Most of her tension dissipated because of Lorevil’s words.
‘She thinks I’m pretty.’
The young girl’s heart fluttered over Lorevil’s casual remark. Mahina stole a glance at Lorevil, looking at the gentle smile on her face.
It was true; as long as Lorevil was by her side, she wouldn’t be afraid or nervous no matter what she faced.
“But, Lady Lorevil, I thought it would take a few more days for you to find me a job.”
Mahina only knew that Lorevil was a student at the Holy Blood Academy. Usually, Lorevil didn’t spend much time with her, often leaving by saying the academy had business to attend to.
It had been less than two days since she lost her job, and Lorevil had already found her a new one. The speed was incredible.
