“Wait, you’re saying you were attacked by a golem?”
Hearing only half of the story, Lintis suddenly interrupted. Eric nodded.
“Yes, Lady Priestess, we were attacked by a golem that went out of control.”
“How could it be a golem? Mr. Shilo, didn’t we come here to deal with the Corruption?”
Facing Lintis’s question, Shilo nodded.
“According to the information provided by the Association, the source of the Corruption this time is indeed a golem. There were actually victims before these adventurers arrived.”
“As for these people…” Shilo’s gaze sharpened as he looked at Eric and his group. The adventurers collectively avoided his eyes. Shilo then turned back to explain to the somewhat dazed Lintis.
“They likely ignored the warnings of the Association staff and broke in by force. You’ve seen the results; they nearly caused the entire party to be wiped out. This kind of behavior is purely irresponsible regarding their own lives. You shouldn’t heal them; they need to be taught a lesson.”
As Shilo’s critical words fell, the expressions of Eric and his companions became quite awkward.
Seeing the atmosphere grow increasingly tense, Lintis blinked and let out a light chuckle. She nimbly slipped to Shilo’s side and gave him a pat on the back.
“What are you doing?” Shilo, who was previously full of majesty, suddenly lost his composure and gave her an annoyed glare.
Lintis put her hands behind her back and smiled nonchalantly. “Alright, alright, Mr. Shilo, please don’t blame them anymore. I’m sure they won’t do something like this again in the future. This lesson has been deep enough, right?”
As she spoke, she blinked repeatedly at Eric and his group. Seeing this, they all nodded in quick succession.
Lintis nodded with satisfaction, but her expression suddenly shifted. Though she was still smiling, she now carried a peculiar, dangerous aura.
“If there really is a next time, I will personally come to your house and break your legs~ After all, such a kind and cute priestess as myself cannot bear to see a patient lose their life~”
Her soft and sweet voice seemed to have uttered some truly terrifying words.
Eric and the others shuddered, bowing repeatedly to the still-smiling Lintis.
“We are very sorry! Lady Priestess, Sir Knight, we are extremely grateful for your assistance! We will keep this lesson in mind and definitely won’t let it happen again!”
After finishing their apologies, they didn’t even care about their physical pain. Eric grabbed one companion in each hand, hoisted them up, and ran, with Tina following closely behind him.
Under the watchful eyes of Lintis and Shilo, Eric’s group gradually disappeared.
Lintis poked Shilo, looking quite proud of herself with her face tilted up.
“How was that? Mr. Shilo, wasn’t I pretty impressive~”
Shilo was stunned. To be honest, even he had been a bit shocked just now. He never thought the Lady Saintess would make that kind of expression and say those words without batting an eye.
Though it didn’t take long for her to return to this childish state.
He thought for a moment and said, “Lady Lintis, I don’t think any priestess would praise themselves as kind and cute. You are being somewhat narcissistic.”
Lintis’s proud expression instantly crumbled. Just as she was about to headbutt him, Shilo had already moved into a defensive stance, making her pout.
“Really… Mr. Shilo… you should praise me once in a while…”
After saying that, she refused to give up and leaned in close, grabbing Shilo’s arm and shaking it while looking up at him with a dejected expression.
“Am I not cute?”
Shilo: “……”
For a moment, he felt caught in a dilemma. Having no other choice, he slowly squeezed out two words.
“You’re cute.”
Upon hearing the answer she wanted, Lintis hummed twice in triumph. She let go of his arm and spun around on her tiptoes, putting some distance between herself and Shilo.
After being proud for a few seconds, her expression suddenly froze. Like a rusty machine, she turned her head toward Shilo with a *creak*.
“Mr. Shilo… I think I forgot to ask them if any other priestesses or knights arrived before us.”
Shilo remained silent. Meeting the Lady Saintess’s hopeful gaze, he let out a sigh.
“Um… hello? We can answer that question for you.”
At that moment, a clear and professional male voice sounded.
Only then did the two realize that the Association staff member, who had been arguing with Eric’s group earlier, was still there.
Shilo fell silent for a few seconds and covered his face, feeling a bit embarrassed.
‘I wonder if it’s because I’ve been with the Lady Saintess for too long, but my thinking has slowed down quite a bit. I clearly knew the Association staff was there from the start, but when she looked over, I completely forgot about it…’
Lintis, on the other hand, accepted this easily and was even quite happy.
“Really!?”
“Yes, Lady Priestess. Before you arrived, another pair of clergy came through. Those unreasonable adventurers were actually rescued by them.”
“I have to say, those guys have incredible luck to meet clergy twice in a row, including a priestess who provides treatment for free. You have no idea; they originally sneaked in when we weren’t looking, yet after getting injured, they expected us to help carry the wounded back. Don’t we have our own work to do? It was just too much!”
“Ah… sorry, I accidentally went off-topic. In short, after that pair of clergy rescued the adventurers, they re-entered the Black Forest to track the golem’s footprints.”
“If the two of you want to catch up with them, you can follow the signs of battle. It has been about 30 minutes since they went in. There were several loud noises during that time, so they likely left many traces behind.”
“Okay, thank you.” After Lintis thanked him, she dragged Shilo toward the entrance. After taking a few steps, she shed a few tears of regret.
“Lady Saintess?” Shilo whispered beside her.
Lintis wiped away a tear and looked over very seriously.
“Mr. Shilo… I forgot to charge them money!”
Shilo: “……”
He silently pulled a coin pouch from his pocket, counted out 20 copper coins, and handed them to Lintis.
“I’ll pay on their behalf.”
Lintis tilted her head. Though confused, she took the coins and tucked them into her pocket like a treasure. Her gloomy mood vanished instantly, replaced by a brilliant smile that felt entirely out of place in this Black Forest.
This strange behavior was witnessed by the Association staff members as they watched the two leave, sparking a round of gossip.
“Hey, hey, did we always have such a cute little priestess in this crappy city? You have no idea, my heart almost melted seeing her like that just now!”
“Shut up, you creep! I’ll tell your wife!”
“By the way, do you think she’s the ‘Angel’ that’s been rumored at the Association since yesterday?”
“Are you talking about the priestess who mysteriously appeared at the Association yesterday and cleared the contamination for many adventurers?”
“Yeah! That’s her! I heard that unlike the priestesses in the Church who only care about money, this little priestess is incredibly skilled and only charges 5 copper coins for treatment. She even refused when people tried to offer more.”
“The adventurers she treated spent all day shouting about how the Church finally produced a real ‘Angel.’ Now, everyone is calling her ‘Miss Angel’ in private.”
“Damn! Why didn’t you say so earlier!”
“Hey! You guys, stop talking about people behind their backs!”
