Time flew by, and before they knew it, the preliminary matches at the academy had arrived.
Bai Lili and the others stood there forming a beautiful sight. Leaving aside strength, other teams were already utterly defeated in the looks department. There were lolis, onee-sans, and young girls—watching beautiful girls being affectionate was truly healing. Other teams looked dull and失色 in comparison.
And purely in terms of strength, this team couldn’t be underestimated either. Three of them were already Level 4 psychics. Even though one was still Level 2, when most talents were still at Level 3, having three Level 4s in one team spoke volumes about their power.
As for Bai Lili, such an adorable fox girl loli, her psychic level could be completely ignored. After all, who wouldn’t love a cute fox girl loli?
Bai Lili felt a bit embarrassed being stared at by so many people. She thought it was a little too conspicuous, but there was nothing she could do—the heroines’ appearances were just too high, drawing attention.
After some minor incidents, Bai Lili and the others arrived at the spectator stands to watch the matches. She wanted to see the psychic battles of this world. She had only ever watched them on TV before, so being able to observe up close live was very exciting.
Bai Lili’s tail wagged back and forth excitedly. Lilith watched Bai Lili’s tail and curled her lips slightly. ‘Lili really can’t hide her feelings.’
Su Ruo and Qing Hanyin had also reached a consensus—they had to limit Lilith’s progress now. Otherwise, the two of them wouldn’t even get any scraps, and Lilith would just take the whole pot away.
Lilith didn’t care at all. Her progress with Bai Lili had hit a bottleneck. According to the System, they needed to experience a very important event to break through that barrier. She, Lilith, could wait—it was just a little weathering. But Su Ruo and Qing Hanyin didn’t know that.
Bai Lili watched the teams on the arena intently. Watching live was a completely different experience from watching on TV.
The two teams on the arena exchanged blows—one sent a lightning bolt, the other a fireball. Some fought hand-to-hand, punch after punch landing on flesh. Their faces were swollen but they still refused to surrender.
Bai Lili felt pain just watching and was a bit shocked. The team leaders from both sides were fighting punch after punch, each strike aimed at the other’s face.
“Oh my god, why are they all hitting each other in the face?”
Lilith sat beside Bai Lili and explained the situation.
“Actually, the team leaders from these two groups are romantic rivals. Their crush said she would date whoever defeated the other in the match.”
Bai Lili asked in disbelief.
“There’s such a thing?”
Lilith nodded.
“And that girl is a huge player. She’s currently暧昧 with ten other guys.”
Bai Lili was completely shocked. ‘True, the world is full of wonders.’ Then she saw the two team leaders shake hands and make peace while fighting, and they left the arena with their arms around each other’s shoulders.
Everyone else was left bewildered. Lilith knew the reason. While they were throwing punches at each other on the arena, both had told the other about all the things that girl had done. As they fought, they gradually understood.
Lilith吐槽ed.
“Is this the legendary ‘from blows to bros’?”
Bai Lili scratched her cheek and looked at the arena.
“I guess so.”
Su Ruo and Qing Hanyin observed Long Chen’s side. They noticed that Long Chen had also reached Level 4. His breakthrough felt like it had no bottleneck—he advanced directly without needing to consolidate his foundation. It was very strange.
Lilith also glanced at Long Chen. According to what Vivianna had said, Long Chen carried a System, but she didn’t know what functions it had.
Bai Lili watched with great interest. Then she heard that their group was up next. She followed Lilith and the others onto the arena, but before she was even ready, the opposing team had already surrendered. After all, the strength gap was obvious—people had to know their limits.
Bai Lili and the others returned to the spectator stands to watch the rest of the matches. From then on, basically every team that encountered Bai Lili’s team would choose to surrender. Of course, there were some who wanted to try their luck, but they were brutally kicked out of the arena.
Finally came the finals: Bai Lili’s team versus Long Chen’s team. Bai Lili had watched Long Chen’s performance, and frankly, it was a bit cheap. He basically used sneaky tricks. They weren’t against the rules, but they were indeed disgusting—sprinkling pepper powder on the arena and whatnot. And after doing all that, he still wouldn’t admit he was being underhanded. Bai Lili honestly hated that kind of person, even though in real combat you did need to make use of everything.
Bai Lili and the others arrived on the arena, facing off against Long Chen’s team. Long Chen’s team consisted of a healing-type psychic, a water-type psychic, a lightning-type psychic, and Long Chen himself. All of them were at Level 3 except Long Chen, who was at Level 4.
Long Chen opened his mouth with extreme narcissism.
“Isn’t this Su Ruo and Qing Hanyin? We met in the Level 6 hunting zone last time. Remember?”
Su Ruo didn’t give Long Chen a chance to continue his narcissism.
“I have some memory. Aren’t you the clown who provoked a Level 6 magical beast and then led it over? If you don’t have the ability to solve your own problems, then don’t mess with things you can’t handle.”
Long Chen was rendered speechless. Afraid that they might expose more about him, he could only throw out a threat.
“You’ll regret this.”
Lilith mocked him.
“Us regret? What do you have that would make us regret? Money? Power? Ability? You’ve got nothing, yet you’re still barking here.”
Qing Hanyin just gave Long Chen a cold glance. Seeing that both sides had started arguing, the referee announced the start of the match.
Bai Lili stayed at the very back of the team. She didn’t want to expose her trump card right away. Trump cards were meant to be hidden until the end—the earlier the enemy knew about them, the worse it was for her, especially against sneaky bastards.
Long Chen immediately spotted Bai Lili at the back. He thought she was a weak point—if he could control her, he could take control of the situation. Bai Lili had no idea she was being targeted. Long Chen signaled with his eyes: grab the one in the back first. But easier said than done—in front of Bai Lili were three Level 4 psychics. It wasn’t easy to grab her. Even fighting those in front would be troublesome enough.
But Long Chen was the team leader, and his teammates had no choice. They were just there to ride his coattails for a ranking. Losing wouldn’t matter to them anyway. So the water-type psychic attacked in Bai Lili’s direction, spreading water all over her side.
Su Ruo immediately guessed what they were trying to do. Water and lightning psychics working together wasn’t bad, but Su Ruo knew how to play with fire.
Su Ruo raised her hand, and a cluster of ghostly purple flame appeared in her palm. She scattered the flame into nine points, then casually pointed her fingers at the water-type psychic. The nine flames shot out like arrows, giving the enemy no time to think. With one strike, they knocked him out of the arena.
The lightning-type psychic tried to attack, but Qing Hanyin didn’t give him the chance. A mental attack made him dazed, and then she used her psychic power to control his hand. The lightning-type psychic, without knowing what was happening, gave himself a heavy punch and fainted, eliminated.
Long Chen turned around and angrily yelled at the healer to heal, but then saw that the healing-type psychic was already lying on the ground. Who had done it, Long Chen had no idea.
Lilith mocked him.
“With strength like that, you still dare to talk big? I really don’t know how you’ve survived this long without getting beaten to death.”
Long Chen muttered to himself.
‘What a bunch of trash.’
If his teammates had heard that, they would have definitely said, ‘Long Chen, you’re really a fucking idiot. We told you to surrender earlier, but you wouldn’t listen. Now you have to leave in such an undignified way.’
Long Chen threw a smoke bomb into the center of the arena, trying to block everyone’s vision and sneak up on Bai Lili to take her hostage. But what he didn’t know was that Lilith could directly sense blood flow, Qing Hanyin could observe with her psychic power, and Su Ruo’s eyes could see through this kind of mist. So these little tricks were useless against these three.
They also guessed that Long Chen was going for Bai Lili. Within three seconds, Long Chen was flung out of the smoke.
Long Chen was furious. He retaliated by throwing a few fireballs into the smoke, but somehow his fireballs curved in midair and flew back toward him. He barely dodged them.
This meant his fire-type psychic power was useless. The opponent’s mental-type psychic could use telekinesis. After a brief thought, he decided to imitate Su Ruo’s power, but found that he didn’t develop any of the nine-tailed fox’s traits or abilities.
Just as Long Chen was surprised that the imitation had failed, Lilith’s flying kick ended the match instantly. Bai Lili had been watching the whole time.
Bai Lili had to admit that the heroines’ strength was really impressive. She felt like she could just lie back and win the psychic competition.
As for Long Chen, who had been kicked out of the arena, he was obviously unwilling to accept it. But Lilith’s kick had been very forceful—just to keep this Long Chen from jumping around in front of her.
Watching Long Chen being carried away, Lilith could happily be affectionate with Bai Lili again. Su Ruo and Qing Hanyin were also in a good mood. After all, they didn’t want a narcissist jumping around in front of them every day.
And Long Chen’s latest stunt got him posted on the campus wall again. The title read:
“If You Suck, Practice More. If You Can’t Handle It, Don’t Play.”
