Hearing the lackey’s mockery, the whole table burst into laughter.
Especially Wang Ge, who loved the feeling of being admired.
But as they spoke, they didn’t notice that Gu Bai had already taken a seat not far away.
Over there, Gu Mixue was furious, rolling up her sleeves and ready to charge at them for a fight.
Unfortunately, her thin arms and legs made her look far from threatening.
Gu Bai, however, fixed his gaze on Wang Ge, then pulled out his phone and quietly sent a message to someone.
“Officer Chen, haven’t you wrapped things up yet?”
On the other end was a friend of his father’s—after uncovering Wang Ge’s misdeeds earlier, Gu Bai had proactively contacted him to see if he could help rid the community of this menace.
A voice message came through, sounding like a very steady and mature uncle: “The net-casting operation’s been a bit tricky. The guy’s assets and connections are extensive—who knows how many families he’s ruined… Xiao Bai, you did a great job reporting him. Any reward you want? Or should I send you a big silk banner?”
“Nothing I want, just hope you can finish the net quickly, Officer Chen. The son of that company’s boss is here at Nanjiang University throwing his weight around.”
“Haha! So that’s it. Alright, Uncle Chen will move early.”
With that, the line went dead.
Gu Bai put down his phone, and only then did he realize that Wang Ge and his crew had spotted him.
They had already stood up and were walking over to Gu Bai with contemptuous, malicious looks.
“Yo, isn’t this the coward? What are you doing here? Hanging around our beautiful Senior Su—do you even deserve that?”
Before Wang Ge could even speak, his lackeys were already barking loudly.
Gu Bai glanced at them and noticed that these lackeys weren’t Nanjiang University students—just dropouts who couldn’t find jobs.
To put it bluntly, they were a bunch of idle, unemployed loafers.
“Gu Bai, right?”
Wang Ge raised an eyebrow mockingly, pressing his hand on the table and looking down at him.
“The truth is, your family has no real power. That so-called gangster background of yours is just a rumor you made up to scare people, isn’t it?”
“That’s right.”
Gu Bai nodded appreciatively, speaking honestly.
Wang Ge’s words pleased him—if only everyone thought that way, his life would be so much quieter.
Seeing Gu Bai admit it, Wang Ge was momentarily stunned, then burst into laughter.
“You really are a coward! A weakling who only uses rumors to threaten women!”
Before Gu Bai could respond, Gu Mixue slammed her hand on the table.
“My brother is not a coward! You thug! Jerk!”
“Pfft!”
The lackeys beside Wang Ge heard Gu Mixue’s voice, like an angry little rabbit, and nearly choked laughing.
“Where’d this elementary school kid come from? ‘My brother’? Even if you called your dad, it wouldn’t help.”
“You!”
Seeing their mocking faces, Gu Mixue’s eyes reddened, tears welling up from anger.
Even the usually timid Su Wan’er clenched her fists—she hated these bullies who relied on their power.
“Sigh…”
Gu Bai’s expression grew dark and cold.
In his life, the one thing he couldn’t stand was someone making fun of his family.
So, he looked at the so-called “powerful and influential” Wang Ge in front of him, stood up, and said, “I’m not one to look for trouble.”
“You?”
Clearly, Gu Bai’s words were taken as a bluff by the group.
Meanwhile, Wang Fu, who was working a part-time job at the night market, saw someone picking a fight with Gu Bai and quickly called for backup.
Wang Ge didn’t care about others’ thoughts.
He pressed aggressively, “I may have money, but I never bully others. I heard you’re pretty tough? One-on-one, let’s have a go?”
Wang Ge had his confidence.
As someone raised with a good family education, he knew a thing or two about Southeast Asian free combat.
So even if he heard that Gu Bai had taken on five people alone, he wasn’t scared.
Plus, judging by their physiques, Wang Ge was tall and sturdy, while Gu Bai was thin and small—they looked like they were in completely different leagues.
Thus, Wang Ge was very confident he could win this fight.
“What? Scared again? You were scared when I challenged you before, and now you’re scared when I challenge you face-to-face. Are you even a man?”
“I was just thinking…”
Gu Bai replied coldly.
“Some people really can’t wait to die before midnight. Even if the King of Hell wanted to keep you until the fifth watch, he couldn’t.”
“What’s the use of talking tough?”
Wang Ge kept provoking, and more and more onlookers gathered around.
Gu Bai’s three good buddies tried to push through to help, but there were too many people—they could only watch, unable to squeeze in.
Seeing Wang Ge so arrogant, Gu Bai picked up a napkin to wipe the tears from Gu Mixue’s eyes, then turned to the brainless man and said, “Do you hear that faint siren outside?”
Gu Bai pointed his thumb behind himself.
At this reminder, Wang Ge finally sensed something was off.
‘Why does that siren sound like it’s coming for me?’
‘But Gu Bai is being ridiculous, right?’
‘Does he really think I’m afraid of the police?’
Wang Ge let out a scoff and continued, “Calling the cops won’t help. My dad knows people in the police station.”
“The person your dad knows is Jing Yongning, right?”
Gu Bai shrugged.
Hearing this, Wang Ge laughed even more.
“That’s right, the head of Nanjiang District Public Security Bureau. Scared?”
“No, I mean, you’ll be seeing him soon.”
Those calm, indifferent words rang like the death knell, sending a slight chill through everyone’s hearts.
The watching students held their breath.
Most were freshmen, curious whether this “campus bully’s” reputation was real or fake.
After a while, three police cars pulled up at the entrance of the night market.
A dozen fully armed officers dispersed the crowd, and the leader was none other than Officer Chen.
He glanced at Gu Bai, then at Wang Ge across from him, pulled out a pair of handcuffs, and in an instant, four officers suddenly lunged forward, slamming Wang Ge to the ground.
“What are you doing?!”
Wang Ge was dumbfounded. He never expected the police to arrest him.
Normally, Director Jing Yongning wouldn’t allow this.
Realizing that, Wang Ge shouted, “My dad knows your police chief! Let me go, or you’re all finished!”
“You mean Director Jing?”
The leading Officer Chen said.
“He’s in jail. You’d better behave yourself.”
