“……”
After listening to Amir’s description of the Sacred Artifacts, Histori’s mouth twitched silently a couple of times, then she wordlessly covered her forehead with her hand.
Good grief.
I originally thought that moronic Demon King’s task for me would be, at most, going to some desolate, uninhabited lost ancient ruins to dig around, looking for legendary lost treasures or something.
But hearing Amir put it this way, if I really want to collect all the Sacred Artifacts, it’s basically asking every country to hand over their nuclear launch button to me, isn’t it!?
And he had the nerve to say, “When this king truly revives in this manner, our Demon Race will surely unify the entire world, standing above all things.”
If I could really gather all these things, would I even need your help to unify the world?
Besides, the world’s number one combatant, the Hero Amir, is standing right in front of me.
She definitely wouldn’t just stand by and watch me gradually collect all the world’s Sacred Artifacts.
What’s more, one of them most likely belongs to her homeland, the Unified Kingdom.
“Um, I’m sorry, Hero. It was my ignorance, my lack of knowledge. Before this, I was practically under house arrest in the Demon King’s Castle. I had no idea the Sacred Artifacts were such important things…”
Histori shook her head repeatedly at Amir.
“Please just treat what I said earlier as nonsense! Actually, even if we can’t find the Sacred Artifacts, it’s fine! Even if I can’t return to my original world, it doesn’t matter! Please let me stay by your side. I swear I won’t cause you any troub—”
“No.”
“Please, I beg you! If you really think I’m useless, I can study harder! I can serve you tea and water every day, light fires, cook meals. Also, even if you have… other needs for me, I can also…”
“No, Histori.”
Amir stepped forward, gently patted Histori’s shoulder, and stated in a calm tone—
“What I mean is, you can’t think of this as something that doesn’t matter.”
“…Huh?”
Histori silently opened her mouth, then looked up, gazing at the black-haired girl standing against the light.
“Lady Amir, what do you mean by that?”
“I’m saying, you can’t think that going home is something that doesn’t matter.”
Amir gave Histori a slight grin, then pulled out that pitch-black Dragon Scale she had peeled from the Demon King from her bosom.
She flicked it high into the air with her fingertip.
“Histori, I’ll help you. Whether it’s collecting the Sacred Artifacts, or sending you back to your original world.”
On the distant horizon, sunlight finally tore through the long night.
The first brilliant rays of dawn pierced through the layered tree canopy, casting a warm and dazzling halo upon the Dragon Scale tumbling in the air.
Amir reached out her hand, catching the scale steadily in her palm.
The morning breeze rustled her deep gray cloak and stirred the long, black hair behind her.
“Even if it means making an enemy of the entire continent, it doesn’t matter. Including the Sacred Artifact of the Unified Kingdom, I’ll find a way to get them all, one by one, into your hands.”
“Hero…”
“Don’t get the wrong idea, Histori. This isn’t for you.”
Bathed in the gradually rising morning light, this strongest Hero, upon whom all of humanity had placed their hopes, chosen and blessed by the Deity, stretched lazily towards the sun on the horizon after effortlessly killing the Demon King.
“I just hope that on the day you gather them all, you can truly show me something interesting enough.”
“…For example, a brand new world.”
