Frankly I’m always disappointed to hear that term “anti-materiel rifle” because it’s just a bigger version of a sniper rifle (most rifles use 5.56 or 7.62 mm calibers, or around that, and a heavy machine gun is usually at 12.7mm, which is also the caliber of the so called ‘anti-materiel rifle’). IMO it’s a pompous name for an improved sniper. Even the speed isn’t much, as some guns (bigger ones especially) can have a muzzle velocity of over 1km/s.
