“You’re saying… you’re going to sleep?”
“Mm.”
There was always a faint, indescribable sorrow in Her voice.
“Since the End-Dusk approaches, it is also time for me to slumber.”
No wonder the strategy team’s intel had been misleading.
By the time they finally arrived at Amber City after a long journey, Perfect Amber had probably already entered Her long sleep.
“How long will you sleep?”
“I don’t know. Perhaps until the End-Dusk arrives.”
In that case, Her slumber might not be that long after all.
Only now did Li Wen remember she still had a cloak in her possession—one that once belonged to a witch Perfect Amber had known.
“Lady Witch…”
Perfect Amber was a title given by others, not one She used Herself.
After a moment of thought, Li Wen decided to address Her that way.
“This cloak…”
There was silence behind the curtain.
After a long pause, She finally replied, “Since it has found its way to you, then it now belongs to you.”
That caught Li Wen by surprise.
From Her tone, it sounded as if the cloak had once been Her own, rather than a relic belonging to the Amber Witch named Livia.
“Wear that cloak, and the girls will see you as one of their own. They won’t harm you. You can leave freely.”
So that was its hidden function.
Li Wen nodded.
She had been prepared to die her way out of here, but it seemed she could spare herself that fate.
Even though a player’s life was notoriously cheap.
Li Wen immediately removed her tattered cloak and put on the new one.
【Eternal of Verdant Star】
【Armor – Cloak – Rare (Purple)】
【A cloak woven from the sands of Verdant Star, imbued with the potent power of Dusk Eternal. It is said that only the most exceptional witches are worthy of wearing it. Considered a symbol of leadership among witches.】
【Duskfall Reset: Consumes 50% mana to reset the progression of Dusk Corruption. Cooldown: 7 days.】
【Witch’s Token: The wearer will not be attacked by the Amber Daughters of their own volition.】
【Eternal Ward of Verdant Star: Consume 30% mana to create a shield that absorbs one full hit (up to the wearer’s max HP); or consume 20% mana to create 3–5 shields that each absorb one hit (up to 20% of max HP). Cooldown: 3 days.】
The cloak was far more powerful than Li Wen had anticipated.
She didn’t fully understand the first ability yet, but anything that required 50% of her mana to activate was unlikely to be weak.
The second ability had already been explained by Perfect Amber—truthfully, it would become useless outside Amber City.
But the third ability was the real gem.
With 30% mana, she could conjure a shield equivalent to a second life.
Sure, she had a first-tier Benediction spell, but that only blocked 10% of incoming damage—utterly outclassed by this cloak.
With this gear, even if Moriah came knocking, she’d have a fighting chance—not just be insta-killed the moment they met.
“When you’ve ascended to witchhood, come back and find me.”
Perfect Amber had spoken her final words, a quiet dismissal.
Li Wen bowed once more in gratitude, then turned and left the inner sanctum.
The corridor outside was eerily empty.
As Li Wen looked up, she saw that the awakened Amber Daughters were clinging to the ceiling.
They should’ve slaughtered her on sight, but now they acted as if she didn’t exist—hanging upside down like bats, their pale hair trailing down like cobwebs, creating a haunting sight.
***
After safely leaving the Amber Temple, Li Wen returned to the clock tower.
The giant on the tower did not look at her but instead stared into the distance.
“It seems you succeeded.”
Li Wen said nothing.
She didn’t want to share anything about what happened inside the temple—including the fact that she’d retrieved the Original Codex.
Though the Twilight Bell had said all immortals had sworn not to lay hands on the Codex of the End, words were just words.
Believing them blindly would be naive.
The giant immortal seemed to understand this was not a topic to press and changed the subject.
“I thought you’d die in there.”
“Because of the Amber Daughters?”
“Yes.”
The giant nodded, his massive head bobbing.
“Even I wouldn’t dare face them alone. In the past, they were the most powerful military force in Amber City—capable of destroying everything.”
While he was speaking, a sudden burst of light tore through the dusky sky, as if a second sun had abruptly risen.
Moments later, that light vanished just as quickly, leaving behind a gaping black hole that refused to fade from the heavens.
“What was that?”
Li Wen frowned.
That definitely wasn’t a natural phenomenon.
Not here in the Eternal City.
“Nothing to worry about. Just some pests. They’ve been dealt with.”
Hearing that, Li Wen thought of Livia—the Amber Daughter who had abruptly vanished earlier.
Perfect Amber had said something similar too.
She had many questions.
What were those “pests”?
Why were all the Amber Daughters in slumber while Livia alone remained awake?
Why was she free to leave the temple without restriction?
But none of that mattered right now.
What mattered was binding the Codex of the End to herself.
“I need a place that’s absolutely safe—free of all life, untouched by any of the Pillar Gods’ domains. Somewhere far from the sky and far from the earth.”
Hearing her description, the giant Twilight Bell fell into a long silence.
It wasn’t pondering the location—it was considering her intent.
The Twilight Bell had never seen the Codex of the End, let alone knew how to use it.
It had no obligation to help her.
But it still needed Li Wen to find someone.
The faster she grew stronger, the sooner she could reach the outer city and begin her search.
So it said, “Enter the tower. When you see the dial, move the three hands—shortest to longest—to IX, XII, and IV. Then walk through the door. But remember: once you’ve left the clock tower, you cannot return if more than a quarter-hour passes.”
“That’s fine.”
To a player, it didn’t matter if she was exiled to another dimension or sealed in some forgotten corner.
Die once and reset the spawn point—no matter where you went, you’d always revive at the starting area.
“You’ve really made up your mind?”
Twilight Bell assumed she was planning to rely on the Eye of the Transcendent and said no more.
Li Wen entered the clock tower.
Where there had once been nothing, now there was a massive dial.
The Dusk Stone had disappeared.
The dial was divided into twelve sections, each illustrated in a distinct style with matching symbols.
Three hands of varying lengths sparkled with star-like fragments, glittering brightly.
Currently, all three hands point to XII.
Without hesitation, Li Wen followed the instructions and carefully turned each hand into place—IX, XII, IV.
Nothing happened.
At least, not that she could feel.
But the moment she stepped out of the clock tower and saw the crimson-shattered sky, she realized—
She was no longer in the same world.
