Suddenly thinking of this, Vylian began to replay the scenes that had just occurred. She suddenly felt that the other girl’s recent string of actions was strangely abnormal.
Unable to make up her mind for a moment, she scrutinized Anlis once more.
Anlis broke into a cold sweat as she was suddenly locked under that piercing gaze.
‘What kind of look is that?’
‘Does she suspect I’ve discovered her identity and am just putting on an act?’
‘In hindsight, I was way too passive just now. Any normal person could see through that.’
‘My acting is still too pathetic!’
‘Think, you stupid brain, think!’
‘If I don’t come up with a reason fast, I’m definitely going to be killed!’
Suddenly, a flash of inspiration struck Anlis, and a plan quickly took shape in her mind.
A person can always achieve the impossible when pushed to the brink of death.
A heavy look of sorrow gradually washed over her face, and her acting skills soared at the critical moment.
“Sister Vylian, don’t you want to know why I don’t want to go level up? To tell you the truth, I actually encountered the Corrupt Monarch today.”
“What?”
Vylian hadn’t expected the other girl to mention her so suddenly. Her attention was instantly captivated, and a trace of astonishment flashed deep in her eyes.
“Sigh, I was defeated by her so completely. Hehe, the reason I was collapsed on the ground was because I lost the fight.”
“This…”
“I look pretty pathetic, don’t I?”
‘Wait, was it because her Dao Heart was shattered after being defeated by me?’
At the time, Vylian had merely delivered a casual kick to send the Hero sprawling.
Looking at Anlis’s dejected expression, Vylian almost let a mocking remark slip out. Realizing her current disguised identity, she quickly brought her emotions under control.
“Lady Hero, a temporary setback means nothing. In this world, only you can defeat the Demon King. If even you, the Hero, give up, then how can humanity, the creatures of the world, and all living things survive?”
“You don’t understand!”
Anlis suddenly raised her voice, her tone carrying a hint of a breakdown as she roared, startling Vylian.
“You don’t understand anything! The Corrupt Monarch is too powerful, so powerful that I feel only despair! I… I don’t want to be the Hero anymore.”
As Anlis spoke, her expression became increasingly desolate, as if she had truly fallen into deep despair.
“I’m just a common farmer. A person’s life is only a few short decades. Instead of throwing my life away for some illusory mission, I’d rather live for the moment and lead a stable life.”
Her words seemed as if she had truly entered the role. She was full of emotion, and her eyes were moist, making her look quite pitiful.
She even took a step forward and grabbed Vylian’s arms.
“Can you understand me? Sister Vylian, I feel afraid just thinking about that scene…”
Before she could finish, she shrank back again.
“I’ve let you see me make a fool of myself.”
“I really am a useless Hero.”
‘It doesn’t look like an act.’
‘So, is she being passive because I crushed her and left her with a psychological shadow?’
‘It seems I haven’t been exposed after all.’
The suspicion in Vylian’s eyes faded slightly, and a hint of pride couldn’t help but rise in her heart.
However, a creature like a Hero couldn’t be judged by common logic. It would be a huge mistake to slack off and think she could just leave safely. Who knew if some beautiful girl from a harem would show up to rebuild her Dao Heart?
She was a cautious Demon King; she couldn’t afford to be careless or underestimate her enemy.
Therefore, she would be the one to occupy that important position.
“I understand.”
“Huh?”
“Please allow me to encourage you, Lady Hero.”
Vylian placed a hand over her small chest, her eyes full of determination. “I ask of you! May I become your companion, stay by your side, and help you regain your courage?”
Anlis’s expression froze, and her emotionally charged state almost collapsed.
‘Are you crazy?!’
‘You’re a Demon King, yet you’re running over here to be a partner of justice and encourage the Hero to defeat you?’
She really couldn’t understand this woman.
“Forget it, Miss Vylian. Um, I don’t think that’s necessary.”
“How could it not be necessary? You are everyone’s hope.”
“I’m not worthy. Sigh, I won’t bother you further. I’ll… be heading back now. My parents are waiting for me at home. As for the reward for saving my life, I will definitely bring it to you personally another day.”
‘Rejected again?’
Vylian couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed.
Well, how did the original story go?
The plot of that *manga* began to surface in her mind.
After being cursed by the Demon King, the Hero Anlis collapsed by the side of the road like a doll and was picked up by her childhood best friend to be cared for. She woke up at home with only her friend around, and then the Curse took effect, causing her to pin her friend to the ground. Following that was the classic opening where she discovered her strength had increased.
Suddenly, the distracted Vylian noticed that Anlis had placed her hand on the doorknob.
Her eyes narrowed, radiating an indescribable hint of danger. “Miss Anlis, where do you think you’re going?”
Being asked this, Anlis instantly froze, her hand stopping on the handle.
“I’m going home. Haha, I’ve been out long enough. My family will be worried. Didn’t I just say my goodbyes?”
“But it’s already very late, Miss Anlis. It’s dangerous outside.”
Anlis steeled herself. “Don’t let my appearance fool you; I actually have some strength.”
Vylian didn’t say anything more. She simply began to walk slowly toward Anlis.
“You’re being naughty. You’ve only just woken up, Lady Hero, and your wounds haven’t been fully treated. You should rest properly.”
An invisible sense of pressure swept over the room. Even though Vylian did nothing, Anlis felt her legs go weak, nearly causing her to collapse. Fortunately, she was still holding the doorknob and managed to steady herself without revealing anything unusual.
‘As expected, it’s not going to be that easy!’
“Fine. In that case, I’ll head back tomorrow.”
As soon as she said those words, the pressure receded like a tide. Vylian maintained her smile, though it had become much gentler.
“That’s more like it. I would be sad if you got hurt. You are the Lady Hero I saved, after all. I wouldn’t want you to encounter danger again.”
At such a close distance, an elegant scent that seemed to penetrate the soul, accompanied by a voice as crisp as a Night Thrush, instantly drifted into Anlis’s nose.
Anlis’s brain felt a moment of dizziness, and a strange sensation began to deepen.
She didn’t notice that the Curse on her lower abdomen had begun to flicker subtly at this inopportune time.
Looking back and seeing her this closely, she realized that the Corrupt Monarch was truly heart-stoppingly beautiful.
‘No! What kind of nonsense am I thinking?!’
‘She is clearly a Black Rose—beautiful to look at, but full of poisonous thorns!’
“Haha.”
Anlis forced herself to scatter the stray thoughts from her mind and gave two awkward laughs. Under Vylian’s gaze, she turned around stiffly and sat down in the seat closest to the door.
She had already figured out Vylian’s plan.
Vylian really wanted to join her team. She likely wanted to use the opportunity to monitor her personally.
‘Doesn’t that mean I’ll have to be constantly on edge, putting on an act under her gaze?’
‘Once she realizes I’ve been deceiving her and that I’ve known her true identity as the Demon King all along, with her temper, she’ll surely tear me into a thousand pieces!’
‘How can I get away from her?’
But…
Somehow, Anlis’s gaze uncontrollably fell upon the “Nun’s” body again, and her rational thoughts began to blur along with a surge of restlessness.
How did Vylian look?
An elegant waistline outlined her petite and exquisite figure, and those slender legs wrapped in Black Silk Stockings were as delicate as works of art. If she were to step on someone, one could only imagine how good it would feel.
Then there was that tender neck; if one could take a light bite and suck hard…
Anlis was stunned, her whole body trembling as her face turned a burning red.
‘No, what on earth am I thinking?!’
‘These stray thoughts aren’t things I would normally even imagine!’
She hurriedly raised her hand and slapped her head hard, attempting to dispel the absurd thoughts.
But it was useless.
Her consciousness became increasingly clouded, and even her pupils transformed into pink hearts.
A single thought forcibly and crazily occupied her brain, destroying her reason.
‘I really want to get close to her~’
