The meeting room was heavy with tension, the air thick and stifling. In the midst of this atmosphere, Hyeonjae opened his mouth.
โDonโt do it. Noโฆ itโs not true.โ
He murmured in a low tone, continuing his lines.
Just average.
As soon as he delivered his first line, countless psychopaths from past dramas flashed through Sunghoโs mind. There was nothing particularly standout about it.
โIโm not that kind of personโฆ I said Iโm not!โ
Hyeonjae muttered to himself, then suddenly raised his voice, veins bulging in his neck as he shouted, exuding a precarious intensity, as if he might collapse from his own fury.
His diction and delivery are good, but itโs definitely weakโฆ
Even though it was a child role, it needed the commanding presence of a psychopath, and it seemed unlikely Hyeonjae could dominate the screen.
Guess weโll go with Jaehoon.
Sungho made up his mind and looked up. At that moment, Hyeonjae lifted his gaze from the script, and their eyes met.
โHow many times do I have to say it? I told you itโs not me.โ
The instant their eyes locked, Sungho felt his breath catch. The soft, innocent eyes heโd seen when Hyeonjae walked in were gone, replaced by a chilling, hollow stare that sent shivers down his spine.
Whatโฆ what is that look?
โItโs not me.โ
Though Sungho knew it was irrational, he couldnโt shake the feeling that Hyeonjae might lunge across the table and strangle him. He instinctively touched his neck.
โGet up.โ
Jaehoon, sitting beside him, fed him the next line as another character.
โIโll make sure you get what you want.โ
โDo you even know what I want?โ
โI do.โ
At Jaehoonโs words, Hyeonjae licked his lips, as if ready to devour the person in front of him.
โJust do exactly as I say, and itโs possible.โ
โReally?โ
It was a pivotal scene where the accomplice, who had lost everything to villains, meets the psychopathic protagonist.
โYeah.โ
Sungho had read the script dozens of times, but he couldnโt help thinking, Was this part always this short?
โWell done.โ
โThank you.โ
Hyeonjaeโs eyes reverted to their original warmth, crinkling into a smile.
This kid.
Now Sungho understood why Jaehoon had recommended him so confidently.
โYou filmed a drama with Jaehoon, and now youโre working on a web drama?โ
Sungho skimmed the profile Hyeonjaeโs agency sent over.
โYes, the web drama wraps this week.โ
โJust so you know, even if you get the role, it wonโt have much screen time.โ
โThatโs okay! I think just being part of the project is meaningful. And above all, since Jaehoon hyung recommended me, I want to do well.โ
It was a textbook answer, but there wasnโt a hint of insincerity. Jaehoonโs lips curled into a pleased smile.
โThen weโll discuss a bit more and get back to you later.โ
โThank you!โ
Hyeonjae bowed and left the room. As soon as he was gone, Sunghoโs expression brightened, but Jaehoonโs grew slightly darker.
โWhereโd you find a kid like that?โ
It was hard to find young actors with that kind of edge these days. With every tall, decent-looking kid rushing to become an actor, there were bound to be few standouts. Sungho had initially thought Hyeonjae was one of them.
โBetter than expected, right?โ
Jaehoon, as if heโd anticipated this reaction, was relaxed.
โWhatโs the plan?โ
โGotta go with him.โ
No need to think twice. Why hesitate?
โKnew youโd say that.โ
โButโฆโ
Sungho replayed the scene Hyeonjae had performed in his mind, envisioning it anew.
โThe casting stays under wraps until the reveal.โ
โHuh?โ
โWe can create a new twistโwouldnโt want to miss that.โ
Unlike Sungho, whose heart raced with excitement for the new scene he imagined, Jaehoon, despite getting his way, seemed lost in deep thought.
โHyung!โ
โHey, you wait long?โ
โNope.โ
After the short audition, Jaehoon had called me to treat me to a meal.
โGood job today.โ
โI donโt know if I did well. Itโs a role you recommendedโฆโ
Iโd done what Iโd prepared, but I wasnโt confident.
โLetโs eat first.โ
We headed to a traditional Korean restaurant in Cheongdam-dong.
This is a restaurant?
Nestled among houses with no sign, passersby would mistake it for a regular home.
Jaehoon, clearly a regular, was greeted familiarly by the staff and led us to a private room.
โWhat do you want?โ
โUhโฆโ
I opened the menu, but it was filled with long, unfamiliar dish names. And where were the prices that shouldโve been there?
Yeah, I have no idea.
I quietly closed the menu and left the choice to Jaehoon.
โI donโt know whatโs what. Iโll eat whatever you order.โ
โHaha, got it.โ
Jaehoon skillfully ordered a variety of dishes.
โThanks for treating me.โ
โEnjoy.โ
Soon, an array of elegant dishes filled the table, though the portions were tiny, like grains of rice.
Why do fancy restaurantsโ portions and prices always seem inversely proportional?
Wishing for a bit more, I took a bite of the braised short ribs in front of me.
โWow!โ
The sweet, savory sauce and tender meat exploded with flavor, drawing an involuntary gasp.
โItโs so good!โ
โWhen I first came here and tried this, it was so delicious I thought, โI gotta work hard to afford this.โโ
โReally?โ
โYeah.โ
โGuess the feeling of eating good food is universal.โ
I thought becoming human made food taste better, but apparently not.
โHowโd you find this place?โ
โThis place? A senior I like brought me here.โ
โOh, really?โ
Even while listening to Jaehoon, I couldnโt stop my chopsticks.
Next time, Iโll bring Boss, Jiwon, Manager hyungโฆ everyone.
It was easily in my top three meals ever, and I wanted to share it with all my favorite people.
โSo thatโs why Iโm treating you here.โ
โThanks to that senior, Iโm eating at a place like this. I donโt know who they are, but Iโm grateful.โ
โIt was Jaehyun sunbae who treated me.โ
At the mention of Jaehyunโs name, my chopsticks froze mid-motion.
โSurprised?โ
โNo. I mean, yes. I meanโฆ huh?โ
I stammered like a broken machine, and Jaehoon burst out laughing.
โPfft! What are you saying?โ
โSorry.โ
โItโs fine, I get it.โ
The casual mention of my master caught me off guard, especially since it was the first time heโd come up in such a normal, positive context.
โYouโre a Jaehyun hyung fan, right?โ
โUhโฆ howโd you know?โ
Since it came up, I leaned into my role as an unapologetic fan of my master.
โI can just tell. Soโฆโ
Jaehoon, as if heโd expected this, smiled, took a sip of water, and set the glass down, his eyes turning serious.
โAre you copying Jaehyun hyung?โ
โWhat?โ
Copying my master? Iโd never thought of it that way.
โWhen you practice, donโt you reference Jaehyun hyung?โ
โOhโฆโ
I had mimicked his practice methods, character studies, and script analysis. So, in a way, he was right.
โDoes it show?โ
โI keep seeing Jaehyun hyung in you. I bet Iโm not the only one who notices.โ
I had no idea. I never thought mimicking my masterโs methods would make him visible in my acting.
โHonestly, you know youโre good, right?โ
โUhโฆโ
I couldnโt just say, โYeah, I think Iโm decent,โ so I trailed off. Jaehoon didnโt miss my hesitation.
โNo need for fake humility. If copying Jaehyun hyung even slightly means nailing his acting, you should do it.โ
โIt wasnโt on purpose.โ
โWhat? You mean it came out naturally?โ
Jaehoon was shocked that I hadnโt intentionally tried to emulate him.
โYeah.โ
โThatโs even crazier. You didnโt try, and Jaehyun hyung still shows up in you.โ
He leaned forward, staring intently at my face.
โYou donโt look like him, butโฆ is it just natural?โ
My current appearance doesnโt resemble my master, but back when I was a dog, people often said I looked just like him.
โHaha, Jaehyun sunbaeโs way better looking, right?โ
โYeah, Jaehyun hyungโs more handsome.โ
โTotally.โ
He was the only human who sparkled like no other.
โNo matter who you bring, in my eyes, Jaehyun hyung would always be the best-looking.โ
Jaehoon gave a bittersweet smile, as if picturing Jaehyun in his mind.
This guy hasnโt changed.
After that incident, every celebrity even slightly close to my master turned their backs and pretended not to know him. But Jaehoon, like me, was still waiting and missing him.
โThey might call me stupid or blind, but I donโt believe Jaehyun hyung did it.โ
No, youโre the smartest, the one who sees clearly.
I wanted to shout that he was right, that his belief was correct, but I held back.
โI think so too.โ
โGlad to meet someone who thinks like me. When did you start liking him so much?โ
โWellโฆโ
โHm?โ
โFrom the start.โ
โSince I was born.โ
Since Jaehyun found me abandoned and gave me a new birthday, it was trueโIโd loved him since birth.
โWhen you were born, he hadnโt even debuted yet. Isnโt that a bit much?โ
โItโs trueโฆโ
I insisted, but Jaehoon still didnโt believe me.
โAlright, youโre a true fan. Anyway, thatโs not what I meant to sayโฆโ
The conversation, briefly derailed by Jaehyun, got back on track.
โIf youโre planning to act like that in the shoot, donโt.โ
The Jaehoon whoโd been laughing and talking about my master was gone, replaced by a serious expression.
Was my acting off? He just said I was good.
Moments ago, heโd said I knew I was good and told me not to be humble, but now he was saying not to act like that?
โIf youโre thinking of filming with the acting you showed today, even if the director approves, Iโll oppose it. So drop that idea.โ
โWas my acting weird?โ
What went wrong? I mentally replayed my performance, but nothing stood out as bad.
โNo, your acting wasnโt bad.โ
โThen?โ
โI keep seeing Jaehyun hyung in your acting.โ
Heโd just said that wasnโt a bad thing. His roundabout way of talking was starting to frustrate me when he cut straight to the point.
โIโm supposed to be your older version, so itโs weird if Jaehyun hyung shows up in you.โ
โOh.โ
It hit me like a punch to the head, leaving me dazed.
How did I forget that? Iโm playing Jaehoonโs younger self.
Iโd been so focused on the psychopath role that I forgot the most critical part.
โThe director will probably cast you. But like I said, if you act the same way as today, Iโll do everything in my power to have your role recast.โ
With that, Jaehoon issued a warning that felt like a declaration of war.

Oh, this one is good.
Some novels didnt delve deeper into the acting ability get though “cheats” and though our puppy ability is prolly natural, I like that they insert these conflict.
It makes the flow a bit more alive and now at least he’d be human, not just Jaehyun’s dog anymore.
And as a human he could learn those emotions dogs didnt have right
Still I wonder why the agency never scheduled an acting practice for him lol ๐ .
Acting in front of a camera not just need talent, you need directions too.
