Na Fu knocked on Lu Ran’s door. She had already heard about the thunderstorm from Lulu.
“Excuse me, it’s Na Fu. Sorry for the early morning disturbance. Is little Wei Yang here?”
“She is, yes. But what do you need her for?”
“I’d like to go with her…”
“Miss Na Fu, please calm down.”
Only then did Na Fu realize how her words must have sounded, and she hurriedly explained.
During breakfast this morning, she had learned from her younger sister Lulu about the hidden fire hazard within Huyin Town. She knew that if they continued to obsess over Zhuji, they would be no different from demons.
So, she had come to bid farewell to Wei Yang, hoping the two of them could take a walk alone and talk.
Lu Ran gently woke Wei Yang and told her about Na Fu’s request.
08:27
The two of them arrived at the garden on the west side. Looking at the scene that was both familiar and somewhat strange, Wei Yang remembered this was where she had first met Galio.
“So, you’ll be leaving Huyin Town today, right?”
Na Fu looked at the sea of flowers before her and nodded.
“Yes, we can’t stay any longer. The plague in Erzhou is still spreading. We must look for other solutions.”
“What about Lulu? Does she feel the same way?”
“Mhm. Even though she was fierce at first, that was just because she was so angry. She didn’t realize Huyin Town would be utterly destroyed by thunderstorms once it lost Zhuji. She’s a reasonable child.”
Hearing this, Wei Yang relaxed a little too, unconsciously rubbing her own neck.
“Speaking of which, why didn’t Lilith tell you about this earlier?”
“Ahaha, she actually did tell us, but we didn’t believe her. We thought it was just a bargaining tactic. After all, we hadn’t seen Zhuji with our own eyes. But after Lulu went to see it yesterday in my place, she knew it wasn’t a lie.”
After yesterday’s heavy rain, today’s sunlight was particularly glaring. But Wei Yang thought this was fine too; at least it was good weather for ending this dispute.
“I almost forgot. Na Fu, what was the reason you summoned that Nightmare Demon to scare people the other night?”
Na Fu bent down, carefully approaching a butterfly fluttering around a tulip.
“After arriving here, the trade negotiations kept stalling, and an idea came to me—if I could scare all the townsfolk into leaving Huyin Town, I could reap the benefits of Zhuji.”
Hearing this naive idea, Wei Yang couldn’t help but laugh.
“Are you a child? How could something like that possibly succeed.”
“Hey, don’t laugh at me. It was indeed a childish idea… but I’m only sixteen, so a little childishness is okay, right?”
“That part is actually kind of cute.”
Wei Yang mercilessly added, “If you were six, I could understand. But sixteen is pushing it. And your sister is very smart. You’re the only silly one.”
Na Fu’s face flushed slightly.
“I can’t tell if you’re complimenting me or insulting me.”
“It’s a compliment.”
“Hehe~”
“Just kidding.”
“Uwah~”
Wei Yang felt Na Fu was a truly interesting girl. Being with her was always relaxing.
“Where will you go next? Back to Erzhou, or somewhere else to look for a solution to the plague?”
Na Fu brushed her hair back, and the butterfly gently landed on her fingertip.
“I don’t know. My mind is a complete mess right now. I’m already trying my hardest just to have a normal conversation with you.”
Was there anything that could save the people suffering from the plague? They had always pinned their hopes on Zhuji, but now they had to give it up. And besides that, there seemed to be no better alternative.
Wei Yang found this headache-inducing too, wondering if the mermaid princess Fu Ping had found any useful information.
“If I find any leads on solving the plague, I’ll do my part to help.”
“…Thank you, little Wei Yang. You really are kind.”
“Don’t thank me. I haven’t helped at all yet.”
Na Fu smiled faintly, watching the butterfly fly away.
“Actually, I kind of hope you don’t get involved. Otherwise, that feeling of helplessness will consume you.”
Wei Yang gave her shoulder a light, dissatisfied pat.
“Don’t say things like that. Didn’t we talk about this before? Don’t try to carry everything alone.”
A wry smile appeared on Na Fu’s face.
“It’s a bad habit of mine. I can’t shake it off that easily.”
Wei Yang sighed. This girl was just as stubborn as Lulu. They were definitely twins.
“Since you’ve decided to leave, you should go tell Lilith too.”
“I will tell her. As for the townsfolk… if I don’t, she’ll blame herself. Before that, I’d like to stay with you a little longer.”
“It’s fine. Lulu will go tell Lilith. She plans to personally visit and apologize to everyone in town since she was always threatening them before.”
Na Fu stood up straight, facing the breeze, her skirt fluttering gently.
She looked at Wei Yang with heartfelt gratitude.
“Little Wei Yang, even though we’ve only known each other for two short days, the impact you’ve had on me is enough to last a lifetime. Even if our connection ends here, I will absolutely—absolutely never forget you!”
Wei Yang walked over to her with a “what am I going to do with you” expression, then gently hugged her.
“I’ll come to help you.”
Na Fu didn’t reply, simply hugging Wei Yang back, feeling the warmth of the most special girl in her sixteen years of life.
“This isn’t a final farewell. We’ll definitely meet again. I still need time to take care of some things. Once I’ve sorted them out, I’ll definitely—”
Just then, a small owl-type monster suddenly flew into Wei Yang’s field of vision. She immediately released Na Fu, raising her hand towards it as pink divine power gathered at her fingertips.
“W-wait! I’m one of Miss Ah Li’s tool monsters! She sent me to find you!”
Hearing this, Wei Yang lowered her guard slightly, scrutinizing it more closely. It did indeed look like one of those small servant monsters from Ah Li’s place.
“You said Ah Li told you to find me?”
“That’s right! She said she contacted the alchemist and now knows what that cube covered in eyes is. She wanted to tell you the information immediately, but you weren’t at Miss Lu Ran’s house, so she sent us out to search for you!”
The little owl blurted all this out urgently. Wei Yang judged its words to be true.
“Alright, take me to her.” She then looked at Na Fu. “What about you?”
Na Fu shook her head gently.
“I’m too embarrassed to show my face to the people of Huyin Town again. You go. If there’s still time, come find me here to chat a bit more.”
A breeze swept through the garden, making the sea of flowers sway gently.
