Gu Chen had a million complaints in her heart, but she helplessly paid the bill for them anyway.
Including the Spiritual Little Sisters and herself, the total came to over 10 yuan.
Fortunately, they weren’t greedy.
Otherwise, with the 50 yuan “fortune” her dad had given her, she wouldn’t even be able to afford instant noodles for lunch, let alone Pinhuofan.
It wasn’t that she was particularly kind-hearted; it was just difficult to say no to a group of girls.
If she made them unhappy and they claimed she had harassed them… she would never be able to clear her name.
‘I can prove my innocence now, but if people found out my real gender, I’d rather admit to the harassment.’
Her impression of these people mostly came from the internet — shouting slogans, performing “social shaking” dances, and things of that nature… while not necessarily negative, they didn’t exactly have a positive image either.
“Mmm, this tastes pretty good.”
The tall Spiritual Little Sister took a bite of a fried dough stick and chewed loudly.
It was hard to tell how long she had been hungry.
Then, she took out her phone, tapped on it, and turned to yell toward the front of the breakfast shop, “Boss, what’s the Wi-Fi password?”
“Add a zero to the end of the account name.”
The owner glanced at them, looking somewhat annoyed.
The tall Spiritual Little Sister connected to the network immediately and told the others to log in quickly, though it was unclear what they were fiddling with.
After they finished eating, they kept tapping away at their phone screens, showing no intention of leaving.
“Sister… cough, brother, do me a favor. Download this app, register an account, and then let me invite you to an event.”
“What do you mean?”
Gu Chen’s expression shifted slightly.
She subconsciously assumed they were involved in some kind of online scam.
There were too many traps these days; one had to be on guard.
“Don’t worry, it’s just an online shopping app. We’re doing a task. Today is the last time. If we get 20 yuan, we can pay our phone bills,” the girl explained.
She even showed the screen to Gu Chen.
It did indeed show some kind of event.
It was similar to the old days of Pinduoduo, where users had to “cut a slice” to gain rewards by inviting others.
Many apps had since imitated this strategy to gain users at a minimal cost; it was quite clever.
“This…”
To be honest, Gu Chen was still a bit reluctant.
Heaven knew if there were any viruses in there.
But she couldn’t win against their persistence, so she eventually downloaded it and helped them “cut a slice.”
*Ding-dong!*
“Great! I finally topped up my phone! Now I don’t have to scrounge for Wi-Fi everywhere!”
The tall Spiritual Little Sister smiled when she saw the credit arrive.
Her service had been cut off for several days, leaving her unable to use her data.
Gu Chen quickly uninstalled the app, feeling speechless.
‘These Spiritual Little Sisters have it so rough they can’t even afford phone credit. Are there no old men to squeeze for cash lately?’
“Brother, do you want to come hang out with us for a bit?”
The Spiritual Little Sisters, still munching on the dough sticks and soy milk she had bought, asked with their mouths full.
“No thanks, I have some things to do,” Gu Chen replied, waving her hand in refusal.
After all, she had already finished the task her dad assigned.
Her top priority was to go back home and catch up on sleep or get some exercise.
She didn’t want to waste time with these Spiritual Little Sisters.
“Tsk, tsk! Brother, you’re being ungrateful. You probably don’t realize how popular girls of our type are. Us wanting to take you out is giving you face. Usually, there are plenty of guys who spend 200 or 300 yuan just to have us hang out with them, and we still refuse.”
A shorter Spiritual Little Sister among them immediately pulled a long face.
Unlike the others, she had her hair in twin-tails dyed pink and wore a dark-style JK outfit.
She slurped her soy milk, her face filled with annoyance.
Gu Chen often saw videos about this kind of thing, but she hadn’t expected there were actually men in real life willing to spend hundreds of yuan just to experience wandering around with Spiritual Little Sisters.
They claimed they were taking him out to play, but in the end, he would likely be the one stuck with the bill.
She wasn’t that kind of sucker.
Besides, her pockets were currently nearly empty anyway!
Just as Gu Chen was about to refuse again, the tall Spiritual Little Sister received a phone call.
“Hello, A-Huang? What’s up? We’re eating breakfast. A handsome guy is treating us.”
She didn’t know what was said on the other end, but her face changed instantly.
“What?! You guys got beaten up?!”
“Okay! Fine! We’ll be right there.”
As she hung up, the tall girl turned to the others.
“A-Huang called. He said they were beaten up by Black Tiger and are cornered in that alleyway at the street corner. Let’s go save them, hurry!”
“What happened? Why did A-Huang get into a conflict with those people again?”
The girl with the twin-tails looked surprised as she quickly gulped down her last bit of soy milk.
“I’m not sure. Apparently, Black Tiger and his crew were trying to extort someone again, and A-Huang tried to stop them. Now he and Douzi are cornered. Things look bad. Stop talking and let’s go.”
The tall Spiritual Little Sister explained briefly.
Regardless of the reason, they had to go help.
“Right.”
The others nodded and stood up immediately, ready to depart.
Gu Chen stood by like a curious kitten, ears perked as she eavesdropped.
She realized there was some drama to watch.
The Spiritual Little Sisters hopped onto their Ninebot Electric Scooters.
The tall one whistled at Gu Chen.
“Hey… two of my good brothers were beaten up. Do you want to come with us and take a look?”
Gu Chen hesitated for a moment, but in the end, her curiosity won out.
After all, nothing was more important than a good spectacle.
Since she had nothing else to do, she might as well check out the situation.
She hopped onto the back of the girl’s scooter without ceremony.
To be fair, these Spiritual Little Sisters were quite skilled at riding.
They even popped wheelies along the way.
Sitting in the back, Gu Chen felt as though her soul were struggling to keep up with her body, a sensation that made her blood pump with excitement.
“Hey, how should I address you?”
As the scooter sped through the streets, Gu Chen rested her hands on the girl’s shoulders and realized she didn’t know her name yet.
“I’m Long Fei, the shot-caller of this street. In the future, if you come here, just say my name. Everyone will give you face,” the girl replied while driving.
“Long Fei?”
Gu Chen repeated the name to herself.
As for the rest of the statement, she didn’t take it seriously.
‘What era are we in? A shot-caller… Yeah, right. A shot-caller who scrounges breakfast. If I use her name, I’ll probably just get beaten up worse!’
Long Fei then introduced the others.
The one with twin-tails was Song Shishi, and the other two were Wang Jing and Zhou Xiaoqian.
“By the way, who is this Black Tiger you mentioned?”
Gu Chen silently memorized the names.
It had been too many years since she had kept up with the local scene, and it felt completely foreign.
She remembered that when she was a child, there weren’t any of these local thugs.
“Black Tiger is an employee of the local specialty shop up ahead. Simply put, he’s a street thug. He specializes in scamming tourists by selling things at high prices. If they don’t buy, he finds other ways to cause trouble. His reputation is terrible; no locals ever step foot in that shop.”
Long Fei explained the situation briefly, her eyes fixed on the road ahead.
