“Is pretending to be dumb really that fun?”
“You see right through it, yet you insist on acting like you know nothing.”
“Humans keep saying they hate witches, but behind the scenes, they’re obsessed with witch power to the point of stopping at nothing.” Serafica’s soft, sweet voice carried a hint of honey.
“After all, right now, I’m your only ‘Soul Weapon,’ aren’t I, my great hunter lady?” Serafica’s eyes curved into a smile as her fingertips gently twirled a strand of silver hair.
That “innocent and carefree” smile, like a needle coated in honey, was deeply etched into Su Wanyue’s mind, impossible to shake off.
A shake at her shoulder brought Su Wanyue back to reality.
“Sorry, I spaced out there for a moment.” Su Wanyue explained.
“I mean, you two—sure it’s summer now, but that doesn’t mean you can zone out even while eating, right?”
It was lunchtime at school, and Zeng Yan had dragged Su Yao over to Su Wanyue’s table, insisting on eating together.
Su Wanyue couldn’t refuse, so now the three of them were huddled around her table, eating their boxed lunches.
Actually, during this infiltration mission, Su Wanyue had never planned on getting too involved with her little sister.
First, she was afraid her identity might be exposed; after all, she’d heard rumors about some inexplicable telepathic bond between family members.
Second, she had already placed a spell on Su Yao, so ordinary Erosion Beasts wouldn’t even get a chance to get close.
But her little sister’s friend was just a little too enthusiastic.
Su Wanyue looked at the chattering Zeng Yan in front of her and couldn’t help but sigh inwardly: ‘If Su Yao had even half her openness and extroversion, she’d have a lot less to worry about.’
“Um… Su Wanyue, have we met somewhere before?” Su Yao suddenly asked, turning to Su Wanyue.
“I think this is the first time Su Yao and I have met.”
“Oh right… haha, my mistake.” Su Yao scratched her head.
The atmosphere instantly turned awkward.
Seeing the shift, Zeng Yan immediately stood up, grabbed Su Yao’s wrist, and turned to Su Wanyue.
“Su Wanyue, I need to have a private word with Su Yao. You can finish eating on your own, okay?”
Without waiting for a reply, she dragged the still-dazed Su Yao out of the classroom in a hurry.
“Yanyan, what’s going on?” Su Yao asked, confused.
“Oh, my silly Yaoyao, that’s not how you make conversation!” Zeng Yan lowered her voice, poking her arm in frustration.
“At a time like this, you have to start with family background and childhood experiences to close the distance!”
“No, seriously, what does that even mean?” Su Yao was even more puzzled.
“Stop pretending. Ever since Su Wanyue transferred here, your eyes haven’t left her. That’s what they call love at first sight.”
“But we’re both girls.” Su Yao’s face flushed bright red in an instant.
“I read about this in a novel I got from a street stall at the school gate. I think it’s called… yuri?”
“Aiya, whatever. Anyway, think about it—Su Wanyue is so pretty, she probably has tons of admirers. But trust me, with all the romance novels I’ve read, leave it to me. I’ll help you win her over!” Zeng Yan patted her chest, looking utterly confident.
After listening to her friend’s nonsensical rambling, Su Yao felt like her worldview had shattered into pieces.
So that strange feeling in her heart was… love?
Su Yao had heard of the concept of LGBT on TV before, but she’d never actually thought that she herself might be a lesbian.
“Then… Yanyan, what should I do?”
“Get closer, Yaoyao. I’ll whisper it to you.”
Zeng Yan crooked her finger, pulled Su Yao closer, and muttered in her ear, imparting some kind of seduction technique she’d learned from some romance novel.
Meanwhile, back in the classroom, Su Wanyue was very puzzled.
Her little sister had said something strange and then been dragged out by Zeng Yan.
Had her identity been exposed?
But Su Yao and Zeng Yan were clearly ordinary people, so that shouldn’t be possible.
Or… had Serafica been pulling some prank behind the scenes?
Not long after, Su Wanyue saw Zeng Yan return to the classroom, followed closely by Su Yao, whose face was bright red and whose eyes were darting around.
Entering the classroom, Su Yao walked straight up to Su Wanyue with her head down, her ears still burning red, and spoke slowly.
“Su Wanyue… can I sit on your lap?”
Su Wanyue froze for a moment, wondering if she was hearing things.
Then, after confirming she hadn’t misheard, she nearly spat out the water she’d just drunk.
“What did you say?!”
“The first step to making someone notice you is to create opportunities for physical contact.” That was what Zeng Yan had told Su Yao.
Su Yao’s head hung so low it was almost buried in her chest, but she still repeated what Zeng Yan had taught her in a small voice.
“I—I want to sit here… is that okay?”
Su Wanyue instinctively looked toward Serafica, who was standing by the door, but the latter shook her head and shrugged innocently.
“That’s nothing to do with me.”
A short distance away, Zeng Yan leaned back in her seat, a sly and triumphant smile curling at the corner of her mouth.
‘Well, let me take that back. Maybe it’s better if my little sister doesn’t learn from Zeng Yan after all.’
But she was still her own sister, and refusing in public wasn’t a good option either.
After a moment of inner conflict, Su Wanyue finally nodded slightly, silently granting this absurd request.
And so, during the school lunch break, a strange scene played out in the classroom.
A girl with a bright red face, too embarrassed to look up, sat quietly on the lap of another petite, equally exquisite girl.
The silence stretched on for a while.
Finally, Su Wanyue couldn’t help but ask in a soft voice, “Su Yao, can I ask why?”
Upon hearing this, Su Yao became even shyer, her whole body trembling slightly.
But she still spoke in a voice as soft as a mosquito’s buzz, yet utterly serious.
“Because I want to be friends with Su Wanyue.”
Su Wanyue breathed a sigh of relief inwardly.
So she’d been overthinking it?
Come to think of it, if she remembered correctly, her little sister had always been introverted.
The only friend she could really talk to was Zeng Yan.
Her saying something so strange and bold was probably just because she genuinely wanted to be friends with her.
Since her little sister had found the courage to take this difficult step, the least she could do was respond properly.
“In that case, Su Yao is my first friend at this school.” Su Wanyue smiled gently and replied softly.
‘First friend!’ Su Yao’s heart skipped a beat, and her cheeks burned even hotter.
Yanyan was right—she really had become someone special to Su Wanyue.
She secretly shot a thrilled and grateful look at Zeng Yan, who raised an eyebrow and returned a look that said, “Keep up the good work.”
